    Highly recommended

Thank you Nusan and Driver Febrianto for taking care of us. Nusan's replies were fast and prompt. He updated us about the pick up time and we were promptly picked up. The tour was great. Nusan kept us safe during the trek and also told us many cool facts about Mt Sibayak. He also takes great pictures! The driver drove for more than 5 hours after the tour to drop us off at Bukit Lawang safely.Thank you!

    Amazing Sunrise Hike

Great hike. Nusan is very knowledgeable and experienced. He shared a lot of interesting facts about the place and the volcano. Highly recommend getting a guide when hiking Mt Sibayak, especially at night. The view on top is very nice and he took us down to the crater as well. He also helped us to take nice photos and got us water and bread. the hot spring is very relaxing. Sipiso-piso is very beautiful and you can choose whether you want to climb the stairs down.

Response from the operator: Thank you very much for telling us about your experience during the hike in Berastagi. I am glad to see that the experience was very positive and that you enjoyed the trip.

Definitely worth your time and money

We were picked up at 2.00am from our hotel in Medan for the tour. The hike up Mt Sibayak in pitch darkness at 4.00am isn’t for the faint of heart, or the inexperienced hiker with no guide. A board at the entrance of the trail detailed all the tourists who lost their lives or who needed to be rescued, so be warned. Our guide was friendly, spoke great English and regaled us with fascinating information about the tribes, flora and fauna in the area. Though we were a little disappointed not being able to see the sunrise due to the thick fog, the entire hike up and down was still worth our time. We opted to skip the hot spring and went straight to Sipiso-piso waterfall. Be warned about the descent to the foot of the falls. There may be steps but towards the second half, the steps were steep, wet, mossy and slippery - most of the steps were also broken. Definitely worth your time and money if you’re in Medan and would like some manageable day trip adventure.

Response from the operator: Thank you very much for writing this review And recommending my service as a tour guide. It is very gratifying to read that you have had a good experience

    Best Sunrise

I had a wonderful experience on the Mount Sibayak sunrise hike, thanks to my guide, Nusan. Although I booked the trip at the last minute, everything was arranged efficiently, including the pickup from my hotel in Medan. Nusan was incredibly patient, professional, and encouraging throughout the hike. As a slow hiker, I really appreciated that he never rushed me and waited for me every step of the way, ensuring I still made it to the summit in time to witness the breathtaking sunrise. His calm and supportive attitude made the experience enjoyable and gave me the confidence to complete the hike. The entire trip was well organized from start to finish. I highly recommend Nusan to anyone planning a Mount Sibayak sunrise trek, especially first-time hikers or those who prefer a slower pace. Thank you for making this such a memorable and enjoyable adventure with the girls as well!

    Awesome view and hiking experience!

Driver (Friko) and tour guide (Nusan) are the best combination we could have. Arrived early at the hotel and patiently waited close to original pick up time, guide us well along the hike and brought us to Mt Sibayak top to enjoy the amazing sunrise view and morning coffee. Highly recommended to take this tour if you’re planning to visit Medan.

Response from the operator: Thank you very much for your trust. It's a great joy to read and verify that your time in Berastagi with me was a great experience. It was a real pleasure to guide you and of course I will be happy to welcome you again to guide you to other places in North Sumatra.

Mount Sibayak Sunrise Hike from Medan with Sipiso Piso Waterfall: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Medan.

How much does Mount Sibayak Sunrise Hike from Medan with Sipiso Piso Waterfall cost?

    +

Prices start at $172 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Medan usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Mount Sibayak Sunrise Hike from Medan with Sipiso Piso Waterfall take?

    +

Plan for about 13 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Medan is not rushed.

Is Mount Sibayak Sunrise Hike from Medan with Sipiso Piso Waterfall worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 76 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 25 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Medan, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Mount Sibayak Sunrise Hike from Medan with Sipiso Piso Waterfall?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Mount Sibayak Sunrise Hike from Medan with Sipiso Piso Waterfall suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 13-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Mount Sibayak Sunrise Hike from Medan with Sipiso Piso Waterfall?

    +

Around 9 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Medan can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Medan and add a light layer if any part of the 13-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Mount Sibayak Sunrise Hike from Medan with Sipiso Piso Waterfall start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Medan within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Medan?

    +

On Outty we rank every Medan experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include 3-Day Ethical Orangutan Jungle Trek | Bukit Lawang, Sumatra, 2 Days and 1 Night Ethical Jungle Trek, Monkey Business 3 days - 2 nights Jungle trekking (including rafting). The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Medan?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Medan?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
