Volcano Sunrise hike and more
I found Nusan through a Facebook Group dedicated to traveling North Sumatra. He was praised highly for his knowledge and passion. My husband and I didn’t only do the Sunrise hike, but Nusan also organised a driver for us to get us from A-B-C-D… for most of our trip which was extremely helpful as we like to be organised due to time constraints. Communication with Nusan was easy and once we had been picked up from our first location we met him in person in Berastagi the day before the hike. He took us to a local restaurant for lunch which was thoughtful and tasty :) He then joined us for the last few km to our accomodation and we discussed the details for the hike in the morning. After an early pick up we started our Volcano hike and Nusan told us so much about Mount Sibayak, but more so other volcanos he had climbed, volcanos of Indonesia in general. He has a real passion for what he does and he cannot hide it. He also took us off track every now and then to show us little extra bits and pieces and once up the top he had tea and coffee for us which was a nice touch. The scenery was amazing and worth the early rise. After a stop at one of the local hot springs he dropped us off and we said out goodbyes. He is a lovely guy and full on knowledge and super helpful. He also does Jungle tours, so make sure to give him a holla when planning your trip to North Sumatra. Thanks for all your help Nusan! Martina and James

A fantastic trip to Mount Sibayak!
We had a fantastic trip to the Mount Sibayak (daytrip). Even though it was cloudy, it was still an amazing trip because our guide, Nusan Karo Karo, knew so much about the area. At the top he served us tea and croissants, which was lovely. We had a great time and can’t complain. We can 100% recommend this trip.

Mount Sibayak Sunrise Hike or Day Hike from Berastagi: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Medan.
How much does Mount Sibayak Sunrise Hike or Day Hike from Berastagi cost?
+
Prices start at $52 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Medan usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Mount Sibayak Sunrise Hike or Day Hike from Berastagi take?
+
Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Medan is not rushed.
Is Mount Sibayak Sunrise Hike or Day Hike from Berastagi worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 85 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 66 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Medan, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Mount Sibayak Sunrise Hike or Day Hike from Berastagi?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Mount Sibayak Sunrise Hike or Day Hike from Berastagi suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Mount Sibayak Sunrise Hike or Day Hike from Berastagi?
+
Around 23 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Medan can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Medan and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Mount Sibayak Sunrise Hike or Day Hike from Berastagi start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Medan within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Medan?
+
On Outty we rank every Medan experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include 3-Day Ethical Orangutan Jungle Trek | Bukit Lawang, Sumatra, 2 Days and 1 Night Ethical Jungle Trek, Monkey Business 3 days - 2 nights Jungle trekking (including rafting). The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Medan?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Medan?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
