Great local operator, professional and with a chill vibe
Trip was super well arranged, we saw orangutans and all sorts of other wildlife. They really know how to make you comfortable: fruits stops, great lunch, dinner by the hut besides the river.. it's a great mix of pain (the long tough hike) and pleasure. Recommended. We did it with our kids and they loved it.

Amazing
Very responsive. Efficient response, quality answers, the tour was fenomenal, and we saw 5 orangutans, including 3 baby orangutans. We saw the hornbill, pig tailed macaque, and Thomas monkey. The tour was amazing, and me and my family enjoyed it very much. It was definitely worth the price as well. The fruits were very fresh, and the food we ate was delicious. Very good. The tour guide, Erwin and Abel was guiding us through the whole thing, explaining to us the different plants, trees and making jokes along the way, truly wonderful. We are definitely coming back.

Definetely would recommend!
Had a 2D1N trek with Erwin and Agus as our guides. During the trek they serve you really well with fruit food tea and coffee. They explain about the animals and helped us spot orangutans and many more. Before the trek we stayed 2 nights in the hotel. The reception, communication, food and drinks were all really good! Definetely would recommend!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much, Mr. Victor Ameye, for your wonderful review and recommendation! 🙏😊 We’re very happy 😊 to hear that you enjoyed your 2D1N jungle trekking experience with Erwin and Agus. 🦧🌿 It means a lot to us that you appreciated their guidance, hospitality, and knowledge about the wildlife. A Life Changing Experience
If anyone is trying to decide which tour operator to go with… there is no better choice than to go with Sumatra Orangutan Treks. Before we even booked, Dedycool helped us so much with any questions we had and explained how everything works. From the moment we arrived at our villa, we were given the biggest welcome and everyone was so friendly. The villa and grounds are so beautiful and peaceful we didn’t ever want to leave! Not to mention the food at their restaurant was some of the tastiest Indonesian food we had honestly ever tried. The jungle trek - we decided to do 2 days 1 night and we absolutely loved every minute. Our guides Erwin and Janet were brilliant, making sure everyone was okay and safe, preparing us more than enough delicious food in the jungle, explaining the wildlife to us, navigating us through difficult jungle routes - we couldn’t ask for better tour guides. Thank you Erwin and Janet! We initially decided to go with Sumatra Orangutan treks because of their ethical and eco friendly tours, and it was a perfect experience from start to finish. Of course you are seeing the beautiful wildlife in their natural habitat so you can’t guarantee what you see during your trek, but we got so lucky and saw 8 orangutans and loads of monkeys without disturbing their natural habitat … it’s a life changing experience. This is the company to go with, thank you everyone for making this such an amazing experience we will remember this forever ❤️ Ash & Libby x
Response from the operator: Dear Mr Ash & Mrs Libby 😊 Thank you so much for your beautiful words ❤️ It truly means a lot to all of us at Sumatra Orangutan Treks to hear that you had such a special experience in Bukit Lawang. We are very happy that you enjoyed the villa, the food, and especially your jungle trek with Erwin and Janet 😊 We will proudly share your kind message with them. Our goal is always to give guests an ethical, eco-friendly, and unforgettable experience while respecting the wildlife and the jungle. We are so happy 😊 you could see orangutans and other animals in their natural habitat and create memories that will stay with you forever 🦧🌿 Thank you 🙏😊 again for trusting us with your adventure and for taking the time to write such an amazing review. We hope 🙏😊 one day to welcome you back again to Sumatra! Big hugs from all the team in Bukit Lawang ❤️ Warm jungle regards 🌿 The sumatra orangutan treks team 🦧

What a wonderful experience!
I did the 2D1N trek with them and had an absolute blast. I really loved that the groups were small instead of huge crowds — we were just 2 girls — which made the whole experience feel much more personal and peaceful, and allowed us to truly enjoy the jungle. They organize everything for you, and I also appreciated how eco-friendly and respectful they are toward nature. Our guides, Yoga and Bambang, were definitely the highlight of the trip — super friendly, fun, knowledgeable, and at the same time very professional. They spoke great English, which made the whole experience even easier and more enjoyable. The food was also AMAZING. They kept feeding us throughout the entire trip, and there was always so much delicious food — I think we came back from the trek gaining weight! I also think it’s really important to support local people in Bukit Lawang, so I loved that this is a locally owned company run by local people from the area. Supporting local businesses and communities here truly makes a difference. This was honestly one of the best activities I’ve joined in a long time. We saw so many orangutans, including a rare male orangutan, plus many other monkeys and wildlife throughout the trek. I would absolutely recommend this experience to anyone visiting Bukit Lawang!
Response from the operator: Dear Mrs Yonca 😊 Thank you so much for your beautiful review and kind words 😊 We are very happy 😊 to hear that you had such a wonderful experience with us during your 2D1N jungle trek. It means a lot to know that you enjoyed the small group atmosphere, the jungle experience, and our eco-friendly approach to nature 🌿 Yoga and Bambang will be so happy 😊 to read your lovely comments. We are proud to have guides who are passionate, knowledgeable, and always trying to make every guest feel comfortable and connected to the jungle. And yes… the jungle food portions are always a little dangerous 😂 We’re glad you enjoyed all the meals during the trek! Thank you 🙏😊 also for supporting local people and local businesses in Bukit Lawang. Your support truly helps our community and motivates us to continue protecting the jungle and wildlife for future generations. We’re especially happy 😊 that you were able to see so much wildlife, including the rare male orangutan — such a special moment! 🦧 Thank you 🙏😊 again for recommending us, and we hope to welcome you back to Bukit Lawang one day for another adventure 😊🌿 Warm jungle regards 🌿 The sumatra orangutan treks team 🦧

Why this scores 93
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
2 Days 1 Night Ethical Jungle Trekking: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Medan.
How much does 2 Days 1 Night Ethical Jungle Trekking cost?
+
Prices start at $151 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Medan usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does 2 Days 1 Night Ethical Jungle Trekking take?
+
Plan for about 48 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Medan is not rushed.
Is 2 Days 1 Night Ethical Jungle Trekking worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 93 out of 100, which we label "90+ Club". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 180 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most highly reviewed in Medan, and how flexible the cancellation terms are. Scoring 90 or above puts it in the Outty 90+ Club, the top tier of everything we rank.
Can I cancel or reschedule 2 Days 1 Night Ethical Jungle Trekking?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is 2 Days 1 Night Ethical Jungle Trekking suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 7. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 48-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book 2 Days 1 Night Ethical Jungle Trekking?
+
Around 63 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Medan can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Medan and add a light layer if any part of the 48-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does 2 Days 1 Night Ethical Jungle Trekking start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Medan within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Medan?
+
On Outty we rank every Medan experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include 3-Day Ethical Orangutan Jungle Trek | Bukit Lawang, Sumatra, 2 Days and 1 Night Ethical Jungle Trek, Monkey Business 3 days - 2 nights Jungle trekking (including rafting). The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Medan?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Medan?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
