⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ An unforgettable 3-day jungle adventure in Sumatra! 🦧🌴

We travelled as a group of six friends and spent 3 days and 2 nights trekking through the jungle with Sumatra Orangutan Trekking, and honestly, it was one of the best experiences of our trip to Indonesia. From the very beginning, everything was very well organised. The communication was excellent, and the whole team was incredibly friendly, helpful and flexible. They made us feel welcome from the first moment and were always available whenever we needed anything. The jungle trek itself was absolutely amazing. We were lucky enough to see orangutans in their natural habitat, as well as many other animals and incredible jungle landscapes. Sleeping in the jungle, having dinner together, waking up surrounded by nature and finishing the adventure with the river rafting were all unforgettable moments. Our guides were fantastic. They were very knowledgeable about the jungle and the animals, but what we appreciated most was their respect for nature and wildlife. They made sure we could enjoy the experience without disturbing the animals, which was very important to us. We also really appreciated all the help with the transportation and our visit to Medan. Everything went smoothly, and the team made the whole journey much easier and more enjoyable for us. But above all, what we will remember are the people. Everyone in the team was incredibly kind, genuine and welcoming. They went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and enjoying ourselves. We genuinely felt that they cared about our experience, rather than simply providing a service. If you are planning to visit Bukit Lawang, we 100% recommend Sumatra Orangutan Trekking. If you want an authentic, ethical and unforgettable jungle experience with a fantastic local team, this is definitely the right choice. Thank you so much to the entire team for an incredible adventure and for making our time in Sumatra so special. 🦧❤️🌿 We will never forget these three days! Highly recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Response from the operator: Dear our jungle friends, Thank you so much for this incredibly thoughtful and heartfelt review! 🦧❤️🌿 We’re absolutely delighted to hear that your 3-day, 2-night adventure was one of the highlights of your trip to Indonesia. It means so much to know that everything—from the organisation and communication to the jungle trek, camping, wildlife encounters, and river rafting—made your experience so special. We’re especially happy that you appreciated our guides’ knowledge and, most importantly, their respect for the rainforest and its wildlife. We truly believe that seeing animals in their natural environment should always go hand in hand with responsible and respectful tourism. 🌿🦧 It’s also wonderful to hear that our team could help with your transportation and your time in Medan. We always want our guests to feel supported throughout their journey, not just during the trek. And your words about our team mean more than we can say. ❤️ Knowing that you felt genuinely welcomed and cared for is one of the greatest compliments we could receive. Thank you again for trusting Sumatra Orangutan Trekking and for recommending us so warmly. We hope the memories of those three days in the jungle stay with all six of you for many years—and perhaps we’ll have the pleasure of welcoming you back to Sumatra someday! 🌴🦧✨ Warm jungle regards, Sumatra Orangutan Trekking Team 🌿❤️

Wonderful experience in the jungle

We booked the 1-day orangutan trekking tour, including the airport transfer from Medan, and had a wonderful experience from start to finish. The transfer from Medan Airport was very well organized and completely hassle-free. We had plenty of space in the car for the two of us during the journey to Bukit Lawang and back. Upon arrival, we received a very warm welcome at the reception and were given a clear briefing about the trekking tour for the following day. Our guest room, located next to the reception, was simple but comfortable. It was equipped with a fan, and the bed was comfortable enough for a good night’s sleep. The room could have been cleaned a little more thoroughly, as the floor was still dusty and our feet became dirty, so we cleaned them before going to bed. Nevertheless, considering the price and the overall service, the accommodation offered good value for money. The trekking tour with Nata and Ijal was the absolute highlight of our trip. We were incredibly lucky to see five orangutans, including the impressive dominant male. Our guides were outstanding—friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, kind, and supportive throughout the entire trek. They made sure we felt safe while also sharing interesting information about the jungle and its wildlife. The lunch was delicious, and we especially enjoyed the fresh tropical fruits. Overall, we had an unforgettable experience and would definitely book with this company again. We highly recommend them to anyone who wants to explore the Sumatran rainforest and see orangutans in their natural habitat. Thank you to the entire team for making this such a memorable adventure!

Response from the operator: Dear Mateo, Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a detailed and thoughtful review! 😊 We’re truly delighted to hear that you had a wonderful experience with us from the airport transfer all the way through to your jungle adventure. 🦧🌿 We’re especially happy that the transfer from Medan was smooth and comfortable, and that our team gave you a warm welcome and clear briefing before your trek. We’re also glad that you found the accommodation comfortable and good value for money. A very special thank you for your kind words about Nata and Ijal! They will be absolutely delighted to hear your feedback. Their friendliness, knowledge, and care for our guests are exactly what we hope every traveller experiences. And what incredible luck to see five orangutans, including the dominant male, during a one-day trek! 🦧✨ That must have been a truly special encounter. We’re also very happy that you enjoyed the delicious lunch and fresh tropical fruits. 🍉🥘 Our jungle team loves preparing fresh meals for our guests, even in the middle of the rainforest! We sincerely appreciate your honest feedback regarding the cleanliness of the guest room. Your comments are important to us, and we will share them with our team so we can improve the experience for future guests. Thank you again for choosing Sumatra Orangutan Trekking and for recommending us. It was a pleasure to have you with us, and we hope to welcome you back to Bukit Lawang one day for another unforgettable jungle adventure! Warm jungle regards, Sumatra Orangutan Trekking Team 🌿🦧

Highly recommendation of Sumatra Orangutan Trekking

We had the most amazing and exciting trip in the jungle. Our guides Sam and Rahmat were super committed and happy to share their knowledge about nature and the animals. They had great respect for the animals in terms of not feeding and keeping a distance so as not to stress the animals. Can only recommend Sumatra Orangutan Trekking if you want an adventurous guided trip with respect for nature and animals. We were lucky to experience the orangutans as well as several other apes and monkey species, birds, snakes and many other animals. Sumatra Orangutan Trekking also handled our transport back to the airport in Medan. Can only recommend this company, as they take care of everything and respond immediately when you write to them. They even made sure that our hotel provided us with some fruit and water, as we had to drive back to the airport early in the morning and therefore could not make it to breakfast at the hotel.

Response from the operator: Dear our jungle friend, Thank you so much for your wonderful and detailed review! 😊 We’re absolutely delighted to hear that you had such an amazing and exciting jungle adventure with us. 🌿🦧 A very special thank you for your kind words about Sam and Rahmat. They will be thrilled to hear your feedback! Their passion for the rainforest, knowledge of the wildlife, and commitment to making every guest feel safe and comfortable are a huge part of what makes our treks so special. We’re especially happy that you appreciated our approach to wildlife. Respecting the animals and their natural environment is at the heart of what we do. We believe orangutans and other wildlife should be observed responsibly, without feeding or getting too close, and we’re proud that this was an important part of your experience. 🦧🌿 It sounds like you were incredibly lucky with the wildlife encounters too—orangutans, other primates, birds, snakes, and so many more species! What an unforgettable experience. We’re also very happy that our team could take care of your airport transfer and the little details that made your journey easier. Making sure you had fruit and water for your early morning departure is exactly the kind of small touch we’re always happy to arrange for our guests. ❤️ Thank you again for choosing Sumatra Orangutan Trekking and for your heartfelt recommendation. We hope to welcome you back to the Sumatran jungle one day for another incredible adventure! Warm jungle regards, Sumatra Orangutan Trekking Team 🌿🦧

1 Day Ethical Jungle Trek in Bukit Lawang at Sumatra: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Medan.

How much does 1 Day Ethical Jungle Trek in Bukit Lawang at Sumatra cost?

+

Prices start at $60 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Medan usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does 1 Day Ethical Jungle Trek in Bukit Lawang at Sumatra take?

+

Plan for about 7 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Medan is not rushed.

Is 1 Day Ethical Jungle Trek in Bukit Lawang at Sumatra worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 81 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 30 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Medan, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule 1 Day Ethical Jungle Trek in Bukit Lawang at Sumatra?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is 1 Day Ethical Jungle Trek in Bukit Lawang at Sumatra suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 5. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 7-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book 1 Day Ethical Jungle Trek in Bukit Lawang at Sumatra?

+

Around 11 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Medan can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Medan and add a light layer if any part of the 7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does 1 Day Ethical Jungle Trek in Bukit Lawang at Sumatra start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Medan within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Medan?

+

On Outty we rank every Medan experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include 3-Day Ethical Orangutan Jungle Trek | Bukit Lawang, Sumatra, 2 Days and 1 Night Ethical Jungle Trek, Monkey Business 3 days - 2 nights Jungle trekking (including rafting). The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Medan?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Medan?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
