Fantastic Trip Through Northern Sumatra
The tour with Discover Sumatra was very memorable and well-organized. Everything went smoothly, and communication with the agency was straightforward and proactive. We would recommend Discover Sumatra anytime.

A well organised and fascinating week
We did a private tour around North Sumatra and had a fabulous time. Highlights for us were the overnight stay in the jungle camp, waking up to take a “shower” in the river, dawn from the top of Sibayak volcano, and touring around the incredible Batak villages on Samosir in Lake Toba. Highly recommended!

Best experience ever!!!
I can't express how wonderful our experience was with Discover Sumatra! Our main guide, Imran, our main driver Farried and the other guides went above and beyond. They took such good care of us and were so much fun! They really felt like family by the end of the week ♥ Having never experienced Sumatran driving I should have been scared but Farried was such a good driver that I was completely comfortable. Everyone we encountered in Sumatra was SO friendly. Thank you for a trip of a lifetime ♥♥ Tarima Kasih!

⭐ 11/10 Stars! An Unforgettable, Seamless Sumatra Adventure
My family and I didn’t really know entirely what to expect when booking this itinerary, but words cannot express how incredibly impressed we were by the end of the trip. Discover Sumatra executed a flawless, seamless, and deeply memorable tour from start to finish. If you are on the fence about booking, do it! It was an absolute 11 out of 10 experience. The hands-down peak of our trip was the trek into Gunung Leuser National Park from Bukit Lawang. Sleeping in half-open riverside shelters, falling asleep to the sounds of the rainforest, and spotting wild orangutans was pure magic. That being said, the hiking can get intense on the 3-Day, 2-Night Jungle Trek, and we had moments of real difficulty within our group with some of the steep climbs and descends. This is where our incredible guiding team truly shone. They stepped in to assist the moment we struggled, even carrying our packs on their own backs for periods of time so we could hike unburdened and reset our bodies. Our main guide, Imran, went absolutely above and beyond every single day to ensure we had the best possible experience. We felt completely safe, comfortable, and cared for with him, as well as with the other guides and private drivers, every single step of the way. Their knowledge of the local ecosystem, plants, and wildlife is unmatched, and their camp cooking (amazing vegetarian jungle lunches and candlelit Indonesian dinners) was fantastic. Beyond the trekking, the rest of the itinerary was incredibly smooth. The 4-hour drives between destinations flew by, and our drivers were great about letting us stop for lunch breaks or photo ops whenever we wanted. All of the scheduled activities, from the sunrise hike up Mount Sibayak and the hot springs to the private cultural tour of Samosir Island, were incredibly well-timed. We truly did not know what to expect going into this, but we came away completely blown away. I cannot recommend Discover Sumatra and Imran's team enough. If you're looking for a seamless, unforgettable adventure, book this tour!

Why this scores 84
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
1 week private round trip North Sumatra: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Medan.
How much does 1 week private round trip North Sumatra cost?
+
Prices start at $1000 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Medan usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does 1 week private round trip North Sumatra take?
+
Plan for about 168 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Medan is not rushed.
Is 1 week private round trip North Sumatra worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 84 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 50 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable outdoors in Medan, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule 1 week private round trip North Sumatra?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 144 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is 1 week private round trip North Sumatra suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 3. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 168-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book 1 week private round trip North Sumatra?
+
Around 18 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Medan can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Medan and add a light layer if any part of the 168-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does 1 week private round trip North Sumatra start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Medan within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Medan?
+
On Outty we rank every Medan experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include 3-Day Ethical Orangutan Jungle Trek | Bukit Lawang, Sumatra, 2 Days and 1 Night Ethical Jungle Trek, Monkey Business 3 days - 2 nights Jungle trekking (including rafting). The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Medan?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Medan?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
