About this experience
The Route is known as the "Coca-Cola Route" due to its relatively comfortable hut accommodations. Marangu Route is considered one of the easier routes because it has a gentler gradient, making it more accessible for those who are less experienced with high-altitude trekking. It’s often recommended for beginners. The route typically takes 5 to 6 days to complete, which is shorter than many other routes that might take 7 to 9 days. This shorter duration can be appealing to those with limited time

Kili Climb using Marangu Route
Hiking Mount Kili was never on my bucket list until speaking with Gift last year on a Safari that he said I could do it “pole pole”-which means slowly slowly. I’m so thankful that I listened to Gift! The view from the top was definitely worth it. I chose the Marangu route, which is also known as the ‘Coca Cola’ route. This route has a steady ascent, huts where you can sleep instead of tents, and also has one of the shortest distances to summit. It took us 4 days to reach summit and about 1 1/2 days to descend completely. With the Marangu route, there is an option for an extra day to help acclimatize to the altitude. Everything was so well organized! Prior to departing home, I was sent a gear/packing list. The day before the hike, I met with my guide, Kennedy, where he reviewed the game plan, when over safety information, and also checked my gear. During the hike, at the end of each day we would debrief and go over the plan for the next day. During the hike, Gift and Kennedy set a realistic pace for me and would recognize when I needed a breather. The team that Gift put together was amazing-I’m so thankful for all of them! Everyone was so kind, encouraging, and went above and beyond to make sure that I was comfortable. Catbeth, one of our porters, would bring me coffee to my hut each morning and the chef put together delicious and nutritious meals-it felt like luxury camping. The hardest day was Summit night. But as you’ll hear in the mountain-“pole pole” is the way to go. Kennedy and Gift did a great job in leading the way. There was also a porter that helped carry my water and snacks so that I could just focus on hiking. I’m so thankful for the entire team. The team genuinely wanted to see me succeed. I’ve done a few Safaris with Gifted African Adventures before. I highly recommend them for any of your travel needs/goals. They do an amazing job at organizing everything while creating a personalized itinerary. Most importantly, they create a fun and memorable experience.
Response from the operator: Dear karine Wow — thank you so much for sharing your inspiring journey with us! Reading your story truly brought a smile to all of our faces here at Gifted African Adventures. We’re beyond thrilled that you decided to take on the challenge of Mount Kilimanjaro — and even more so that you trusted us to guide you through it “pole pole.” It’s a powerful reminder that anything is possible with the right mindset, the right support, and a little patience. We’re especially happy to hear that the Marangu Route was a great fit for you, and that the team — including Kennedy, Catbeth, and our amazing mountain crew — made your trek both comfortable and memorable. Knowing that our planning, pacing, and personal touches helped you feel confident and cared for means everything to us. It was an honor to hike alongside you, and we’re so proud of your accomplishment. From safaris to summits, we’re always grateful to be part of your adventures. Asante sana once again for your kind words and trust. We look forward to creating more unforgettable memories with you in the future! Warm regards, Gift Charles & the Gifted African Adventures Team Luxury Authentic Tanzania

+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
