What you'll see and do

  1. San Jose del Cabo

Cabo is known as one of the best places in the world to study and encounter Whales of all species. Salty Cabo Excursions offers the most comprehensive Whale Watching tour in San Jose del Cabo. Our multilingual marine enthusiasts will share endless knowledge about the local area as well as the abundant Marine Life of Baja. As an Ocean Lover and marine enthusiast, I would like to pass on a bit of this passion to make this world a better and more sustainable place and provide memories to last a lifetime. Each year, Humpback Whales and Gray Whales migrate down to the warm waters of the Sea of Cortez for their annual mating ritual. The whale watching season starts on the 15th of December and ends on the 15th of April. Away from the boat crowds, we will take the time to observe the natural behaviors of these mammals, at the same time enjoying the breathtaking displays of mothers and calves, and/or competitive males. Something you will never forget.

Beth and Luisa were...

Beth and Luisa were great! Our captain was also very safe and kind. We saw whales - success! Appreciated being able to go out of San Jose instead of having to drive to Cabo. Great small and quiet marina.

Response from the operator: Hi Lauren, Thank you so much for your lovely review! We’re really happy to hear you had a great experience with Beth, Luisa, and our captain. We’re glad you enjoyed the calm, small marina here in San José del Cabo — it really does make for a more relaxed and personal start to the tour compared to busier areas. And of course, seeing whales is always a success! Thank you for joining us, and we hope to welcome you back again soon. Warm regards, Roland & the Salty Cabo Team

Excellent whale watching from San Jose marina

We had a great time with our wonderful tour guide Louisa! The boat is comfortable and we were provided water and snacks. Louisa is very knowledgeable and shared many fun facts about the whales. We saw a group of 4 or 5 humpback whales that we followed for the majority of our tour. The provided (free) photos were stunning and available to download shortly after disembarking. This tour leaves from San Jose instead of the arguably too cramped San Lucas which is advantageous since we were the only ones following our whales for much of the time.

Response from the operator: Hi Kevin, Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re really happy to hear you had such a great time with Luisa — she’ll be thrilled to know you enjoyed the experience and all the whale facts she shared. Following a small group of humpbacks for most of the tour, especially without other boats around, is always something special. We’re glad you appreciated the comfort on board, the refreshments, and the photos — it’s our goal to make the experience both relaxed and memorable. Thank you for joining us, and we hope to welcome you back again soon! Warm regards, Roland & the Salty Cabo Team

Luisa and Paco will be thrilled to know their knowledge and effort helped make the experience so special. We’re glad you were able to see whales and other marine life along the way. A highlight of our trip

We LOVED the tour. We saw several whales quite close to us! We went at 12pm and the large shade on the boat plus the breeze from the boat kept us cool. There were some comfortable padded seats on the boat. Our guide, Louisa was super knowledgeable about whales, having 18 years of experience. She and our captain were great. A highlight of our trip - would highly recommend! Note: the trip noted that there would be cookies included, however, we didn’t receive any.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re thrilled to hear the tour was a highlight of your trip and that you enjoyed the comfort on board — the shade and seating really make a difference, especially on midday tours. Luisa will be so happy to know her experience and knowledge stood out. Seeing whales up close is always something special. Thank you also for pointing out the missing cookies — we’re sorry about that, as they are normally part of the experience. We’ll make sure to follow up with our team so this doesn’t get missed. We truly appreciate your recommendation and hope to welcome you back again soon! Warm regards, Roland & the Salty Cabo Team

Whale Watching Group Tour in San Jose del Cabo: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Los Cabos.

How much does Whale Watching Group Tour in San Jose del Cabo cost?

+

Prices start at $70 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Los Cabos usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Whale Watching Group Tour in San Jose del Cabo take?

+

Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Los Cabos is not rushed.

Is Whale Watching Group Tour in San Jose del Cabo worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 87 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 271 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Los Cabos, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Whale Watching Group Tour in San Jose del Cabo?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Whale Watching Group Tour in San Jose del Cabo suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 1. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 2-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Whale Watching Group Tour in San Jose del Cabo?

+

Around 95 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Los Cabos can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Los Cabos and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Whale Watching Group Tour in San Jose del Cabo start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Los Cabos within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Los Cabos?

+

On Outty we rank every Los Cabos experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Cabo 4x4 ATV Tour with Tequila Tasting and Mexican Buffet Lunch, Ziplining and UTV Desert Adventure from Los Cabos, Cabo Beach Camel Ride, Mexican Buffet and Tequila Tasting. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Los Cabos?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Los Cabos?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
