About this experience

Siem Reap’s name and fame in the international world of travel has almost solemnly been established on Cambodia's most valuable monument – the Angkor temples. Constructed under the ruling of the Jayavarman Kings from the early 12th century onward, it now welcomes visitors to give them an awe-inspiring insight of the vastness of this UNESCO World Heritage listed site to leave every travel in awe once meeting the temples and pagodas of a past as grand as the complex itself. Main stage for seeking out what made Angkor the shining jewel of Indochina is unarguably the Angkor Wat. For 4 hours, be mesmerized and be totally awestruck as we dwell with your guide through the corridors of Angkor Wat and the renowned Ta Phrom temple.

  1. Angkor Wat

Via the official entrance, we head straight over to Angkor Wat, erected in the 12th century and covering an areas almost 210 hectares. The pride of the country featuring on its blue-red-white coloured national flag, Angkor Wat is Cambodia’s ancient temple city which is one of the wonders of the oriental world. Your guide will lead the way in exploring the many galleries with columns, pavilions, courtyards, libraries and ponds full of water reflecting the towering temple. Intricately-carved reliefs extend the length of the outer walls and corridors, depicting mythological scenes and day to day life at the time of Angkor's construction, built under the watchful eye of King Soryavarman II, Angkor Wat is the cultural home of the Khmer people, in various guises, and remains awe-inspiring with its five famous towers that rise into the sky even for repeating visitors.

  2. Ta Prohm Temple

Next on our itinerary is the Ta Phrom: one of these bucket list temples when entering the Angkor temple region because of its entwined connection with the Siem Reap jungle. Originally constructed as a monastery in the same century as Angkor Wat by Jayavarman VII and a shrine for its mother, archaeologists decided to leave its jungle-clad cover with huge tree roots covering the base and the roof of Ta Phrom as a reminder how the first visitors found this temple. Without a doubt, Ta Phrom has been on the foundation of Angkor’s huge popularity. It is regretfully time to head back to your hotel under the professional guidance of your guide and driver.

Incredible morning, fantastic guide!

INCREDIBLE!! Where to start...our guide Ngan Sopheap was absolutely brilliant, her English and knowledge of the temples was second to none. We were collected at 8am and taken to get our entry passes to the temples. Our guide asked us if we didn't mind doing the temples round the reverse way than what was advertised, so Ta Prohm 1st then Angkor Wat she advised we would beat some of the crowds this way round (and that's exactly what we did). Ta Prohm is beautiful, seeing how nature has taken over the temple and the way the trees have wrapped around this impressive temple is just mind blowing. Next stop Angkor Wat....what a sight to see. In truth its hard to believe how this temple was built let alone knowing it was built in the 12th century. The carvings and the structures were so beautiful and the grounds so well kept. Our guide was so informative and helpful we couldn't ask for anything more. My only advise would be to ensure you have plenty of water and a good hat, Angkor Wat is very open with shade few and far between. Highly recommend this trip.

Response from the operator: Dear webbla Such reviews are making our day! It has been highly appreciated from all of us that you took the time to write down your experiences in and around Siem Reap and see the spiritual landmarks of Angkor alongside getting an impression of the city scape. An invaluable asset in all our tours and excursions are indeed our guides; ambassadors in their own right and able to bring forward essentials to gain a deeper understanding and greater knowledge add so much more value. Looking forward welcoming you and your travel companions again to Cambodia for another exploration of the country's landmarks, sights and unmissable monuments. With kind regards Asian Trails Cambodia

Ta Prohm is everything you imagine and more!

Whatever you do in Cambodia do not make the mistake of only seeing Angkor Wat as while it is impressive it feels like a tourist trap - Ta Prohm is the true treasure where nature is reclaiming what man hath wrought.

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 55 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 3 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Siem Reap, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

How far in advance should I book Siem Reap’s signature temples discovered?

+

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Siem Reap can sell out a month out. What are the best things to do in Siem Reap?

+

On Outty we rank every Siem Reap experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Angkor Wat Sunrise or Sunset Small-Group and Guide tours, Angkor Wat full Day 'Small Group with sunset & Tour Guide, Angkor Wat Sunrise or Sunset Tour with Guide from Siem Reap. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Siem Reap?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Siem Reap?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
