Day trip to visit Materuni Waterfall, Coffee tour with local lunch.

14 Aug 2026 My local driver Julius from Wild Root Safaris and Adventures drove me from my resort in Arusha to Materuni Village in Moshi (belongs to Chagaa tribe). He is an expert driver who smoothly navigated the long bumpy road to and fro the village. When reached the village, my Chagaa guide Amoshi bought me for a relaxing hike to the nearby beautiful waterfall fed by glacier runoff from Mount Kilimanjaro (took me abt 2hrs in total 2 ways). He changed my 75% filled water bottle to full bottle which is a wise decision as I really need the hydration. He pointed out things of interest along the way and talked abt the Chagaa tribe. He patiently waited while I took photos & also showed me good photo spots plus took photos for me too. Saw a cute little boy enjoying himself at the stream on my way to the waterfall. The villagers who are selling their local art crafts are also very friendly. The waterfall is beautiful and if u have time, is worth a swim inside. Do note that there is some muddy parts along the way that Amosi cautioned me on - my trekking sandals have good grip so no worries. After that, another guide Steven bought me ard for the coffee tour. He showed me a tray that holds the various stages of coffee from flower to bean or powder. Then I was showed how coffee is manually made from seed to powder thru songs and dances. Really enjoyed seeing the processes. After that, I got to drink the newly roasted fragrant coffee. Then I had a local delicious traditional lunch cooked by the village ladies together with my village guide and driver. I will recommend Wild Root Safaris & Adventures.

Great coffee making and waterfall tour

Nelson hosted me for the private tour and was a friendly and helpful guide. He collected me from the airport and also provided some help for my onward journey. The coffee experience was great and the team made it really memorable. Enjoyed stretching my legs on the waterfall hike too. Worth trying the tour.

A perfect day at the materuni falls

Great day at the matteruni falls. We were picked up on time from the hotel and were drives in a comfortable car. At the materuni village we were guided by a local guide. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. He took us to the waterfalls and back. We skipped the coffee tour because we were tired and went straight to lunch which was very local and delicious (banana soup!). After the that we drove back. Our driver was very pleasant! I highly recommend.

Response from the operator: Dear Maya, thank you for taking your time to tell experience you had with us. We are grateful for you and welcome back agin and again

    Great day excursion from Arusha

We did the Waterfall and coffee tour with Arusha Excursions. Our guide, Nelson was very knowledgeable, punctual and responded an immediately via WhatsApp. He is a retired Kilimanjaro hike guide with over 10 years experience. The paiement went through via TripAdvisor online and everything worked as it should. The waterfalls were gorgeous and we really felt we got our money’s worth. I would recommend Nelson without hesitation.

Is Materuni Waterfalls and Coffee Tour worth it?

    +

What should I bring or wear?

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
