Extremely Distressing, Mistreatment, Humilating
The experience was extremely distressing, and we are shocked by the way we were treated: We were picked up late and were placed in a small, uncomfortable mini-van instead of the promised coach bus. As the last passengers picked up, we were made to sit in the very back seat, where we were constantly bouncing and hitting our heads on the ceiling. When I expressed concern about the poor conditions, the tour operator became rude and dismissive, even telling us that if we weren’t happy, we could get down and get a refund—which we never requested. After completing just one portion of the tour, the driver/guide told us we had to get off the bus because a full refund had been issued via Viator. This was done without our knowledge or consent. We were publicly humiliated and left on the roadside, forced to arrange and pay for our own taxi back to our hotel. While we now see that a refund was processed, we never asked for it. We were willing to continue with the tour, despite the inconveniences, and it was PATA DE PEK TRAVEL who unilaterally contacted Viator or the local operator and misrepresented our situation. This behavior is completely unacceptable and unprofessional. We request: Reimbursement for the taxi fare we had to pay after being dropped off. An investigation into why the refund was initiated without our request or approval. That Viator reevaluate its partnership with PATA DE PEK TRAVEL, whose conduct reflects very poorly on your brand.
Response from the operator: Detalles de la reserva Referencia de reserva: BR-1282051567 Nombre del Tour: 4x1 Tulum, Coba + Pueblo Maya, 5ta Avenida desde Playa del Carmen Fecha de viaje: martes, 8 de julio de 2025 Nombre del viajero principal: Deval Parikh We recognize the issues that arose during the customer journey and appreciate the information you provided regarding the situation. Our goal is always to provide the best service possible, and we take customer behavior very seriously. As indicated in your email, the customer was picked up with a slight delay, and I understand this may cause frustration. However, it is concerning to learn that the customer displayed disruptive behavior that impacted the experience of others. Our staff did their best to address the situation, informing the customer of the consequences of their actions, and we appreciate your efforts in managing it. It is unfortunate that the customer chose to escalate the issue despite the measures taken by our team. We sent a report to Viator, and one of your colleagues issued the refund. Although it may not have been ideal, given that the tour had already begun, we informed the client that Viator had issued the refund and that we would need to charge the tickets. We informed the client, who refused to pay because he had abandoned the tour and decided to go to his accommodation on his own. After all, he had threatened to take legal action, but we told him he was leaving on his own. Everything was done to resolve the situation amicably. We strive to maintain a positive environment for all participants and avoid conflicts whenever possible. We understand that the client may feel aggrieved, but it is essential to clarify that the refund issued by Viator does not invalidate the service provided during the tour. We appreciate your cooperation in communicating this to the client, as well as any potential consequences that may arise due to their actions. We value our collaboration and your commitment to resolving this issue professionally. Please let us know how we can help clarify the situation or if you need more information from us. Thank you for your understanding and support. Sincerely,
via Viator
Information biased until after paying.
I have no complaints about the tour as such, but I do have to report the deception that involves selling the tour with hotel pickup, and once paid, when arriving at destination, receive an email saying that they do not enter the resort, that you leave at the entrance, in some hotels more than a kilometer of road between closed jungle, for which you have to pay a taxi that takes you to the point. And it happened to us on two excursions, from two different tour operators. Pata Peek tours, and Sat Mexico. So I cannot recommend contracting with Trypadvisor until they notify you of these circumstances.

+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
