Incredible private tour to Chichén Itzá with Irving — book this guy!

If you're heading to Chichén Itzá, do yourself a favor and book Irving. He was our guide for a private VIP tour that hit the ruins, a cenote, and Valladolid, and it turned into one of the highlights of our whole trip. He picked us up at our hotel at 6:30am sharp so we could get to the ruins early and beat the crowds — and it worked, we were basically one of the first groups through the gates. The drive from Quintana Roo took almost 3 hours, but honestly it didn't feel like it. Irving knows a ton about Mayan history, and somewhere along the way he and my son got talking about video games and sports, which turned into us finding out he's a Vikings fan too. We spent a good chunk of the ride swapping Vikings stories and reliving some wild moments from the team's history like we'd known each other for years. Once we got to the ruins, Irving really brought the place to life. He wasn't just reciting facts — he used photos and videos alongside what we were actually standing in front of, so everything clicked. He pointed out how many steps make up the temple, how it lines up perfectly with the spring equinox, what kind of sports were played there, and how the Maya built with limestone and smaller stones instead of the massive blocks the Egyptians used. Little details like that made the whole visit way more interesting. We got through the ruins before the heat really kicked in, then swung by a cenote nearby. We didn't go in, but just seeing how clear and blue that water was made it worth the stop. After that we grabbed lunch in Valladolid — my son and I basically inhaled the guacamole appetizer — before heading back to Playa del Carmen. The whole day was easy, fun, and we actually learned something, which is exactly what you want from a trip to a UNESCO site. My son had such a good time with Irving that he's already talking about bringing his mom and brother next time we're back in the area. Thanks again, Irving — and go Vikings. Hope you make it out to the Mexico City game this November. Can't recommend this tour enough.

Chichen Itza Aug 2026!

We went to Chichen Itza with our guide Tony. He did an amazing job and taught us so much information. Then we went to the cenote which was stunning. Following this, we travelled to this small Mexican restaurant with amazing food! Tony recommended some amazing dishes and we had a blast!

Excellent Day, Highly recommend!

Everything about this experience was excellent. From booking, communication leading up to the excursion, to the day itself was so well executed. We had a large group ranging in age from 4-70 years old and everyone had a great time. Our guide Carlos was exceptional. He genuinely cared about making sure that we had a great day and he really delivered. It is very hot in August so arriving at Chichen Itza early was key. Carlos knew a lot about Chichen Itza and was a great tour guide. He also takes amazing photos. The cenote stop was so fun. He accompanied us all around the site watching our bags, helping with the rope swing and taking photos. The included lunch was great to. It was perfect that everyone could get exactly what the wanted and no one left hungry. It was also nice that all the entry fees are included with this tour as I noticed that many do not include the various entry fees in the cost. I would definitely book again with this tour company.

Amazing tour of Chichén Itzá with Carlos!

We had an amazing tour of Chichén Itzá with Carlos. He was extremely knowledgeable and shared so many interesting insights about the archaeological site as well as Mayan history and local culture. I traveled with my teenagers and they were fascinated by the entire tour. After visiting Chichén Itzá we swam in a beautiful cenote which was a truly unique experience. My teenagers had a blast jumping into the water from the ropes. We then enjoyed a really delicious lunch in the lovely colonial city of Valladolid. Carlos was also an excellent driver and we felt completely safe and comfortable throughout the day. Everything was very well organized from beginning to end. It was a wonderful and truly memorable day for our family. Highly recommended!

Awesome Chichen Itza and cenote tour

Carlos was awesome. Got us to Chichen Itza early, beat the crowds of buses, walked us through the site, great knowledge of the area. Then we sent to swim in a cenote, which was amazing. By then we were incredibly hot and getting in the water second was the perfect sequence. We then had lunch in Valladolid and walked around the town square a bit. Can’t say enough good things about our guide Carlos. Friendly and knew how to keep things moving so we didn’t sit around and wait.

VIP Chichen Itza Private Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Playa del Carmen.

How much does VIP Chichen Itza Private Tour cost?

+

Prices start at $125 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Playa del Carmen usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does VIP Chichen Itza Private Tour take?

+

Plan for about 10 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Playa del Carmen is not rushed.

Is VIP Chichen Itza Private Tour worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 98 out of 100, which we label "Peak Performance". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 1,849 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Playa del Carmen, and how flexible the cancellation terms are. Scoring 90 or above puts it in the Outty 90+ Club, the top tier of everything we rank.

Can I cancel or reschedule VIP Chichen Itza Private Tour?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is VIP Chichen Itza Private Tour suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 10-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book VIP Chichen Itza Private Tour?

+

Around 647 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Playa del Carmen can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Playa del Carmen and add a light layer if any part of the 10-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does VIP Chichen Itza Private Tour start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Playa del Carmen within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Playa del Carmen?

+

On Outty we rank every Playa del Carmen experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include VIP Tulum Private Tour, Chichen Itza Private Tour VIP, Chichen Private Experience. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Playa del Carmen?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Playa del Carmen?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
