Non-stop to the top!
We are stoked. We just climbed Kilimanjaro to the peak, & it was a peak experience for my new wife & I. This is our honeymoon trip, & we couldn’t be happier. I’m from Australia, & I’ve never done any hiking like this before. I’ve never owned hiking boots, thermal layered clothes, or a puffer jacket. I’m letting you know that if you’re a generally fit person, you can get up this mountain. (You will need those layers & clothes though). The most genius thing I noticed our guides - Samwell & Freddy - doing, was sticking to the rule of “poley poley - slowly slowly.” We walked in single file behind 1 of the guides at all times. Small steps. None of our group had major acclimatisation sickness at all. No one vomited. And I really think it’s because we were moving deliberately slow, so we can stay in the game until the end. (We did also take the acclimatisation pills of course. Half at brekky, half at lunch). We took Machame route - which is 7 days total. It’s not the easiest route. It’s a fun one, & feels like the right amount of time to acclimatise. The meals were amazing. More food than I expected, & to a higher standard than I assumed. My wife & I are vegetarian, & the chef - Paulo - didn’t miss a beat with making us enough beans, rice, oats, vegetables, fruit, eggs, even veggie pizza that my partner said is “the best pizza she’s ever had.” And we were 4000 meters high, & porters had carried the ingredients up that mountain for us. Paulo if you’re reading this. You’re 1 in a million. We miss your smile. If you open a restaurant, we’re flying here to visit. (We hope your wife finds out that you can cook one day 😉). Jonathan served us every day. He was our morning alarm, gently saying “Habari za asubuhi,” & bringing us tea or hot chocolate in bed every morning. They call it “beddi tea.” He heated water for us & brought it to us every morning, & every evening. We thought we were going to use wet wipes all week, so this was a blessing. (Remember to bring a quick-dry towel). Jonathan even came to the peak with us on summit day, bringing extra water, tea, & biscuits. Seriously, what a human being. Big thing: There was a portable toilet. Are you serious, Dan, I hear you saying. Yes. Jeremiah carried a portable toilet on his head, with a little tent that goes around it, for the whole 7 days so that we had a private place to go to the bathroom. Again, this was unexpected, & relieving. Now, tips. In Australia we’re not a tipping culture, so I was shocked when I found out that tipping money is EXPECTED as part of the process. To me, I’m like, “The employer should pay the staff,” but I’ve come to understand the culture of cash, & how far this money can go for community here. I know that we’ve just paid the school fees for a lot of family members of our porters that went up. Every porter & guide has stories about funding their way through school by going up the mountain as a porter when they could. Or paying for their brother, sister, niece, nephew etc. And the calculations for the tips were shocking to us. It basically doubled the price of the trip. Guys, pay it. They’re worth every penny. Just calculate it into the budget. When you see what these guys do for you, you’ll want to give it. We were 3 people (our new friend Maggie from Germany was also with us). And that means we needed 13 porters, 2 guides, & 1 chef. A lot of people. The WEIGHT determines the amount of porters. A porter is only allowed 20kg on their heads (not including their own backpack). That’s food, water, tents, toilet, & more. We highly advise getting to know your porters by name. They’re a blessing. I had a notepad in my pocket all week, & started writing names, & lyrics to Swahili songs from the start. - Kili Climb songs more than every other crew on the mountain. It was a vibe. We weee part of it. Always singing. I genuinely think the songs got me up the mountain. It gave my mind something to focus on. Pasco, thank you for being such a great camp manager, singer, & friend. Noeli, young Sam, Christian, Riziki, thank you for being smiley & bringing that happy young excited spirit to the camp. Baraka, Daniel, Abdullah, Sudi, Abraham, thank you for being strong like lions nguvu kama simba all week. You made it look seamless, the way you’d carry anything & run, made me feel like if there was an emergency, you could save the day without breaking a sweat. I’m beyond impressed. I already have friends asking me if I’d do it again, because they’d like to do it, but not alone. So I do think I’ll be coming back one day. I felt your love before you guys even said it. And when we cried at the top of the mountain, & said that we love you, we meant it then, & we still hold that love for you now & forever. Thank you a thousand times. We didn’t know how special this would be. 🙏🏼
Response from the operator: Dear Danny, Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a heartfelt and detailed review of your 7-day Kilimanjaro adventure with Armystrong. Reading your words truly means a great deal to our entire team. First of all, congratulations to you and your wife on reaching the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro during your honeymoon! What a remarkable way to begin this new chapter of your lives. We are deeply honored that you chose kiliclimb Africa Safaris to be part of such a special journey. We are especially happy to hear that Samwell and Freddy guided you with patience, care, and the true spirit of “Pole Pole” — slowly, slowly. On Kilimanjaro, the journey is just as important as the summit, and taking the right pace, allowing the body to acclimatize, and listening to your guides can make a significant difference. Your appreciation of their approach will mean a lot to them. We are also delighted that our kitchen team exceeded your expectations. Paulo and the entire food team will be incredibly proud to hear your kind words, especially your comments about the vegetarian meals and, of course, the legendary pizza! Preparing nutritious and enjoyable meals at high altitude requires tremendous effort, and we are grateful that Paulo was able to make your experience even more memorable. And Jonathan — we will certainly share your message with him. His morning “Habari za asubuhi” and beddi tea are part of the little details that can make a challenging mountain journey feel like home. We are so pleased that his care and kindness stood out to you. Your appreciation for Jeremiah and the portable toilet service also made us smile. Behind every comfortable detail on the mountain is a member of our team working hard, often carrying heavy loads over difficult terrain. Our porters are an essential part of every successful Kilimanjaro expedition, and we are proud that you took the time to recognize their contribution. Most importantly, thank you for recognizing our entire mountain crew by name. Pasco, Noeli, Young Sam, Christian, Riziki, Baraka, Daniel, Abdullah, Sudi, Abraham, and everyone who supported your climb will be very happy to know that their hard work touched you personally. We particularly loved hearing about the songs, the Swahili lyrics, the laughter around camp, and the friendships you formed along the way. Kilimanjaro is not only about standing on the Roof of Africa — it is also about the people you meet, the stories you share, and the memories you carry home. Your comments about tipping and the lives of our mountain crews are also deeply appreciated. We believe our guides, porters, chefs, and support teams deserve respect, dignity, and recognition for the important work they do. Thank you for taking the time to understand their stories and to appreciate the people behind your adventure. From your first steps on the Machame Route to the emotional moment at Uhuru Peak, we are honored that Kiliclimb Africa Safaris was able to be part of your honeymoon and your first great mountain adventure. You arrived as guests, and it sounds like you left with friendships and memories that will last a lifetime. That is exactly the kind of experience we hope to create for every traveler who climbs with us. To you and your wife: thank you for trusting Kiliclimb Africa Safaris, thank you for believing in our team, and thank you for sharing your love and appreciation so generously. Asante sana, and congratulations once again on reaching the summit! We hope to welcome you back to Tanzania one day — perhaps for another Kilimanjaro adventure, or simply to visit the friends you made on the mountain. “Hakuna matata, pole pole, nguvu kama simba!” With gratitude and warmest regards, The Armystrong Team kiliclimb Africa Safaris

KiliClimb makes Mt. Kilimanjaro feel like home!
My experience with KiliClimb was absolutely amazing. I hiked to the peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro via the Machame route in 7 days in a group of 3 people. My point of contact, Laura, was extremely helpful while planning logistics before and after the hike and made sure I had all the information I needed throughout the booking process. She was flexible with my budget and availability, catering a whole hike according to my specifications. She responded quickly to my booking requests and provided detailed responses to my questions about the hike. Our lead guide on the hike, Samwell, and our assistant guide, Freddy, were very knowledgeable about the terrain we would be climbing and kept a perfect pace throughout the 7 days. The crew also has first aid training, so they were able to help us if we had any medical issues during our hike. I did not do any training before the hike and the pace was perfect for me. We were also supported by a wonderful group of porters who made us feel like part of a family. Paulo, the chef, cooked delicious food to keep our energy up over the course of 7 days. He also catered the menu to our specific dietary needs so we would be comfortable. Jonathan, the waiter, made sure we were comfortable in our campsite at all times and truly went above and beyond his duties to make us feel welcome. Pascal had so much energy and made every campsite feel like a party. Jeremia carried our camp toilet (not an easy feat) but always had a big smile on his face. Baraka, who carried my duffel bag throughout the hike, made sure my tent was a home away from home. A big thanks to Abraham, Abdalah, Joseph, Daniel, Noel, Sudi, Samwell Matiya, Riziki and Christian for working tirelessly behind the scenes to make our hike successful and fun. My legs may be a bit sore now, but the crew behind this hike makes me want to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro with them as soon as possible!
Response from the operator: Dear Margaret Thank you sincerely for such an exceptional and heartfelt review of your 7-day Machame Route adventure with Kiliclimb Africa Safaris. Your words mean a great deal to us, particularly because you took the time to recognize so many members of the team who worked behind the scenes to make your climb successful. Kilimanjaro is never achieved by one person alone—it is a team effort, and we are proud that our guides, porters, chef, waiter, and entire mountain crew made you feel supported, comfortable, and part of the Kiliclimb family. We are especially grateful for your kind words about Laura, Samwell, Freddy, and the entire crew. From the first planning conversations to the final steps on the mountain, our goal is always to make the journey well organized, safe, personal, and enjoyable. Knowing that the pace, guidance, meals, camp service, and overall support worked so well for you is incredibly rewarding. We also appreciate your recognition of our crew members by name. Their dedication often happens quietly behind the scenes, so having their individual contributions acknowledged is something we will proudly share with the whole team. And we are particularly happy that, even with tired legs after reaching the summit, you are already thinking about climbing Kilimanjaro with us again. That is perhaps the greatest compliment you could give us. Thank you for trusting Kiliclimb with such a special achievement. Congratulations once again on reaching the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, and we hope to welcome you back to Tanzania for another adventure soon. With sincere appreciation, Armystrong Kiliclimb Africa Safaris

Exceeds expectations!
Had the most amazing time climbing Kilimanjaro with the amazing team behind kiliclimb! The experience really exceeded expectations, the food was amazing, the guides, porters, and janeth were all super attentive. I rented a sleeping bag for the hike which wasn’t particularly warm which I did mention after the hike and they discounted the price I paid and hopefully they can invest in better ones for future! A lot of effort is put in by the porters (13 in total) to get equipment to camp which we preemptively underestimated when we calculated tipping - we didn’t realise how many there would be! All in all great experience and would highly recommended :)
Response from the operator: Dear Bethney, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us. We are very happy to hear that your 7-day Machame Route adventure exceeded your expectations. It means a lot to know that you enjoyed the food and felt well cared for by our guides, porters, and Janeth throughout the climb. We also truly appreciate your honest feedback regarding the sleeping bag. We have taken your comment seriously. The sleeping bags are currently rented from an independent equipment store that is not affiliated with or a member of Kiliclimb Africa Safaris. Nevertheless, we understand that the equipment you receive directly affects your experience with us. That is why, after receiving your feedback, we decided to cover half of the sleeping bag rental cost for you. Going forward, we will certainly take your feedback into consideration as we look at investing in our own sleeping bags, with the aim of ensuring better warmth and comfort for our future guests. Thank you as well for highlighting the important role of our porters. Their hard work behind the scenes is essential to making a Kilimanjaro climb possible, and we truly appreciate you recognizing their contribution. It was a pleasure having you with us, Bethney. Thank you for recommending Kiliclimb, and we hope to welcome you back to Tanzania for another adventure in the future. Warm regards, Kiliclimb Africa Safaris Team

Incredible - Kiliclimb goes above and beyond
We chose Kiliclimb based on a friend's recommendation from a previous experience, and they did not disappoint. Kiliclimb delivered above and beyond expectations for our 7 day Kilimanjaro hike along the Machame route. For our lively group of seven 30 year-olds, the 29 Kiliclimb guides, porters and staff kept our spirits up with fun, positive energy, reliable gear, and some of the best food we've ever had while camping. Above all, the Kiliclimb team knew how to deliver results day in and day out, especially on summit day. The team held an unwavering professional and positive attitude through all conditions. We felt very fortunate to be in their care and would strongly recommend Kiliclimb to groups looking for a lively team that's more than just a guide. Incredible from start to finish. Kiliclimb is building a special recipe for success!
