Happy we chose this one!

Simply excellent! Money well-spent for a packed 7D/6N adventure. The highlights: The jungle hike in Bukit Lewang paid off with close-up sightings of orangutans and the cute and friendly Thomas’s Leaf Monkeys. Skilled and friendly guides, Yoga and Augusto brought a tropical fruit banquet and delicious lunch. Guide Dani and expert driver, Perrry, led the next 5 super enjoyable days. First, Dani met us with frest lovcsl fruit and cookies in Berastagi, then the next morning he led us safely up the rugged mountain trail in the dark of early morning to witness the spectacular sunrise from Mt. Sibayak. He also treated us to cookies and home-brewed coffee as we rested from our 1.5 hour hike and waited for the sun to light the sky. What a workout! And what an accomplishment! Accommodations were great, guides; Yoga and Dani were top-notch, kind, informative, and FUN! Drivers Godex and Perry were amazing!! This is a well-orchestrated tour; we are two happy clients!

Wonderful week in Sumatra

We booked a 6-day, 7-night trip to Sumatra, where Sumatra Orangutan Treks picked us up at the airport in Medan and dropped us back at the airport after 7 days. The trip started with a 4-hour flight delay, but there was no problem rescheduling the trip or contacting the organizers and driver. We chose a 1-day jungle tour in Bukit Lawang, and our guide was Erwin, with his assistants Azri and Bambang. My husband felt ill during the trek, and that's when we realized how important a guide is on a trip. They took care of us and completed the trek and rafting trip via an easier route. The motorbike rides through the jungle were fantastic, and we saw three orangutans. The villa we stayed in was charming. We loved the garden and waking up to the birdsong. Dani was our guide for the next few days, and Godex was our driver, and they made sure we had a wonderful time in Sumatra. First, we traveled to Berastagi, where we visited the market, the ghost village, and the surrounding area. Climbing the volcano with Dani in the dark, watching the sunrise, was a fantastic adventure. A later rest in the hot springs allowed us to recover from the early wake-up call. The next day was a trip to Samosir Island on Lake Toba, with a stop at the beautiful Sipisopiso Waterfall. The island is a beautiful place where you can relax, enjoy the scenery, but also explore and learn about the local culture. We were lucky to have Dani as our guide; we spent an unforgettable week with him. He showed us beautiful places on the island and spoke with passion and love about the local culture and Sumatra. In this review, we'd like to thank him immensely for his dedication and captivating moments. And for the wonderful photos he took of us. A huge thank you also to our driver, Godex, for safely transporting us through the not-so-pretty Indonesian roads and crazy Indonesian traffic. This team – Dani + Godex – did a fantastic job on our trip. The organizers were also impeccable, from contact after booking the trip, to choosing accommodations and guides. They also provided support in unexpected situations when we had to deviate from the plan and improvise.

Response from the operator: Thank you 🙏😊 so much for your wonderful and detailed review! 🙏 We’re truly happy 😊 to hear that you had such a memorable week in Sumatra and that everything went smoothly, even with the unexpected flight delay. It means a lot to us that you felt supported and well taken care of throughout your journey. We’re especially glad that Erwin, Azri, and Bambang could assist you during the jungle trek and adapt the experience when your husband wasn’t feeling well. Safety and comfort are always our top priorities. It’s also great to hear that you enjoyed your time in Bukit Lawang, Berastagi, and Lake Toba, as well as the sunrise hike, hot springs, and cultural experiences on Samosir Island. Sumatra truly has so much to offer! 🌿 A big thank you 🙏 for your kind words about Dani and Godex — we will definitely share your message with them. They will be very happy 😊 to know they made your trip so special. We really appreciate your trust in us and hope 🙏 to welcome you back to Sumatra again in the future! Warm jungle regards 🌿 The sumatra orangutan treks team 🦧

A wonderful and unforgettable holiday

A big thank you to Sumatra Orangutan Treks for this wonderful tour. We saw lots of animals and orangutans in the jungle. A big thank you to Deni for showing us your beautiful region of Berastagi and accompanying us to Lake Toba, for your professionalism, your joie de vivre and your kindness. You are the best guide. Thank you to Heri for driving us perfectly despite the condition of some of the roads.

Response from the operator: Hello 🙏😊 Thank you so much for your wonderful words! We’re really happy 😊 to hear that you had an unforgettable holiday with us. It was a pleasure 🙏 to guide you through the jungle, Berastagi, and Lake Toba. We’ll also share your kind words with Deni and Heri — they’ll be very happy 😊 to hear this! Hope 🙏 to see you again one day for another amazing adventure in Sumatra 🌿🦧 Warm jungle regards 🌿 The Sumatra Orangutan Treks Team 🦧

Good experience

Very good experience 👌 We went jungle trekking 🐒 Everything was well organised, we had a picnic and later a tasty lunch in the jungle. Our guide Yoga has a big knowledge about the nature and animals there and was able to answer all our questions. We felt safe and well taken care of. I've noticed that both our guides (Yoga and Aga) have a big respect for the nature and wildlife. I even saw them picking up some small trash that they found on the way. Both very friendly and welcoming as all Indonesians that we met. The next day we had a village tour to see rice fields and production of brown sugar, tofu, tempeh and roof making. It was a good insight into the life of the villagers. The only thing I missed in these 2 days was a bit more general information about the situation of rainforests, plantations, wildlife, maybe even economy and history. So that tourists don't leave the country as oblivious as they entered it.

Response from the operator: Thank you 🙏😊 so much for sharing your detailed feedback 🙏 We’re very happy 😊 to hear that you had such a good experience trekking with Yoga and Aga, and that you enjoyed both the jungle and the village tour. It means a lot to us that you noticed their care for nature and respect for the wildlife 🌿🦧 We also really value your suggestion about sharing more general information on the rainforest, wildlife, and local economy. That’s a wonderful point, and we’ll work on including more of this background in our tours so that our guests can leave with an even deeper understanding of Sumatra. We truly appreciate your thoughts and hope 🙏😊 to welcome you back again one day! 🌺 Warm jungle regards 🌿 The Sumatra Orangutan Treks Team 🦧

7 Days 6 Nights North Sumatra Tour (Bukit Lawang-Berastagi-Lake Toba): questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Medan.

How much does 7 Days 6 Nights North Sumatra Tour (Bukit Lawang-Berastagi-Lake Toba) cost?

+

Prices start at $830 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Medan usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does 7 Days 6 Nights North Sumatra Tour (Bukit Lawang-Berastagi-Lake Toba) take?

+

Plan for about 168 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Medan is not rushed.

Is 7 Days 6 Nights North Sumatra Tour (Bukit Lawang-Berastagi-Lake Toba) worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 82 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 36 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Medan, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule 7 Days 6 Nights North Sumatra Tour (Bukit Lawang-Berastagi-Lake Toba)?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is 7 Days 6 Nights North Sumatra Tour (Bukit Lawang-Berastagi-Lake Toba) suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 6. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 168-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book 7 Days 6 Nights North Sumatra Tour (Bukit Lawang-Berastagi-Lake Toba)?

+

Around 13 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Medan can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Medan and add a light layer if any part of the 168-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does 7 Days 6 Nights North Sumatra Tour (Bukit Lawang-Berastagi-Lake Toba) start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Medan within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Medan?

+

On Outty we rank every Medan experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include 3-Day Ethical Orangutan Jungle Trek | Bukit Lawang, Sumatra, 2 Days and 1 Night Ethical Jungle Trek, Monkey Business 3 days - 2 nights Jungle trekking (including rafting). The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Medan?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Medan?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
