About this experience
Discover the secrets of truffle hunting among the enchanting hills of San Gimignano, one of the most fascinating gems of Tuscany. During the excursion, you will learn the ancient truffle hunting techniques passed down by my family, and you will learn more about this rare and precious ingredient, typical of Tuscan cuisine. You will walk with me and my dogs in the woods, and this is the most fascinating part of the route, where you can see my dogs in action! While we will only perceive the scent of the woods, my dogs will be able to sniff the hidden aroma of truffles, and give us this precious ingredient that you will be able to savor in the most authentic way. Great Truffle Hunt
The guide was very friendly and knowledgeable and his dog was very well trained and found a lot of truffles. Maybe when booking the guide could give his name and telephone number and be more precise where he is meeting his guests at the Coop car park.

Very Unique and Interesting
I have to admit that I had reservations about going on a truffle hunt while on vacation in Italy. My wife had booked this excursion thinking it would be something different to try. I am so glad she did. Dominico was an excellent guide and very knowledgeable. He is very personable and down to earth. His dog Cuba (Coo-ba) was amazing! She found her first truffle within the first 2 minutes! She was so fast, we couldn't help to wonder if the truffle had been planted. Of course after that first one, she was digging up and finding more very quickly and all over the place! Dominico really knows what he's doing and explained everything you would ever want to know about truffle hunting. He apologized for his English as he had only started studying English in 2024. We were impressed with how well we were able to communicate with him after only having a year of learning English so there wasn't an issue with communication. The hunt lasted maybe 45 minutes or so which was plenty of time. Dominico gave us some truffles to take with us and explained the best way to prepare them. It is mind blowing as to how much these little fungi cost, so we didn't waste one morsel. They are very good and they reminded us of Morel mushrooms that we have back at home in illinois. If you are looking for something to do while staying at San Gimignano, we highly recommend giving Dominico a call and have him take you on a hunt. A great guy, a great dog and a great experience!

Great fun!
It included less walking than we expected, which was good! Guide was great and his dog was wonderful!

My partner and I...
My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Domenico was a great tour guide, with lots of information about truffles, and so cool to see the dog gather truffles. We found lots and had a very interactive experience. Even got to go home with a few truffles to have later!

Why this scores 70
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Truffle Hunting in San Gimignano: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for San Gimignano.
How much does Truffle Hunting in San Gimignano cost?
+
Prices start at $50 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in San Gimignano usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Truffle Hunting in San Gimignano take?
+
Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in San Gimignano is not rushed.
Is Truffle Hunting in San Gimignano worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 70 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 14 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in San Gimignano, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Truffle Hunting in San Gimignano?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Truffle Hunting in San Gimignano suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Truffle Hunting in San Gimignano?
+
Around 5 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in San Gimignano can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in San Gimignano and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Truffle Hunting in San Gimignano start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central San Gimignano within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in San Gimignano?
+
On Outty we rank every San Gimignano experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Wine and food tasting in an organic family winery, Tuscan Cooking Class, Tuscany Wine Tour: 2 Wineries & Chianti from San Gimignano. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit San Gimignano?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in San Gimignano?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
