The Most Magical Sound of Music Tour Experience - Thanks to Jose!

We had the absolute pleasure of doing the Sound of Music tour in Salzburg with Jose, and he was exceptional from start to finish. His warmth, humour, passion, and deep knowledge made the entire experience unforgettable. Jose brought the movie, the history of Salzburg, and the stories behind the scenes to life in such an engaging and entertaining way. He created such a wonderful atmosphere on the tour - fun, relaxed, informative, and full of energy. You can truly see how much he loves what he does. The scenery was breathtaking, but Jose made the experience even more special with his storytelling, music, and personal touches throughout the day. He was also fantastic with everyone in the group and made us feel genuinely welcomed and cared for. This was one of the highlights of our Austria trip and a memory our family will treasure. If you are considering a Sound of Music tour in Salzburg, ask for Jose — he is simply outstanding. Thank you, Jose, for such a magical experience! From Tash and Vana (South Africa)

    Great excursion

We started on a city walk and continued by van to see many of the filming sights as well as beautiful scenery. Our guide, Gerard, was VERY knowledgeable. He was very flexible with our choices and we had a wonderful lunch in a charming town after a short hike on The Sound of Music Trail. Anyone who is a fan of the move- or just wants a full tour around will be please.

Response from the operator: Dear Guest, Thank you for your enthusiastic review of the Sound of Music Private Tour! We're thrilled Gerard’s deep knowledge and flexibility, paired with the city walk, filming sites, scenic hike, and charming lunch spot, made it a delightful experience for fans and explorers alike. We'd love to welcome you back for another joyful adventure! Best regards, Your Salzburg Panorama Tours Team

Great tour, disappointed with trip advisor, not the tour.

The tour was wonderful and our guide was very nice and charming. Seeing the part where Maria swirls around in the grass was the photo shoot I wanted and got! I was disappointed with trip advisor, not the tour, so that is why it has a lower rating. My trip advisor account wasn’t working well . Luckily I had taken a picture of my confirmation number bc the booking wasn’t showing up in my app. I called trip advisor the previous day of my tour to make sure that my pickup was good and to have them pick up my party of 2 families from 2 separate hotels in Salzburg. Not a problem at all they told me. After waiting 15 minutes, I received a call asking where I was and the tour group company never received word from trip advisor to meet at our hotel, yet that is what the tour stayed when I signed up for it. There was even a place where I wrote the name of the hotel to be picked up from. I was picked up shortly after the phone call as well as the other half of our private tour group. Our nice guide apologized even though it wasn’t their fault and agreed to have the tour go on another 30 minutes past our time bc we started 30 min later. It was difficult to hear the tour guide if you sit in the back seat, even with a microphone bc the microphone is on the left of the driver and as they turn right while driving, their mouth is not near the mic. Overall the tour was wonderful and the driver knew a LOT of information about what we were seeing! I’m just VERY disappointed with trip advisor and probably won’t use them in the future and will use Viator or Get Your Guide in which I had no problems with in the past. After texting with trip advisor the previous day just to make sure everything was on shape. I found the company to be disappointing to work with.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us. We truly appreciate your detailed feedback and are very happy to hear that, overall, you had a wonderful tour and enjoyed your time with our guide. It’s fantastic to know that the iconic moment of Maria twirling in the grass lived up to your expectations – it's a special highlight for many of our guests, and we’re so glad you were able to capture that perfect photo! We're especially grateful for your kind words about our guide – it's always rewarding to hear when their friendliness, charm, and knowledge make a lasting impression. We will be sure to pass along your compliments to them. That said, we’re sincerely sorry to hear about the frustrations you encountered with TripAdvisor regarding your booking and pickup coordination. While we, as the tour operator, did not receive the necessary pickup information from TripAdvisor, we understand how stressful and inconvenient this situation must have been for you and your group – especially after proactively confirming details the day before. We genuinely appreciate your patience and understanding as our team worked to resolve the confusion. We’re pleased we were able to pick up both families promptly after the call and extend your tour by 30 minutes to make up for the lost time – your flexibility helped us turn the situation around. We also appreciate your constructive feedback regarding the microphone setup. Your comment about the sound not reaching passengers in the back seat is valuable, and we will certainly look into improving the audio system or our positioning of the microphone to enhance the experience for all guests. While it’s disappointing to hear that your experience with TripAdvisor has led you to consider other booking platforms in the future, we fully understand your concerns. We do recommend booking directly with us or through platforms you’ve found more reliable, such as Viator or Get Your Guide, to avoid similar issues. Thank you once again for your thoughtful and balanced review. Your insights help us continue to improve both our services and our communication with third-party partners. Most of all, we're glad you were still able to enjoy the tour and create lasting memories in Salzburg. We would love the opportunity to welcome you back again in the future – perhaps next time under smoother circumstances from start to finish.

Wonderful tour with loads of information about the movie and the area

A great way to learn about the movie as well as the Salzburg area. Our guide was very knowledgeable and accommodating. We got to see where many of the memorable movie scenes were shot and learn about what was done in Hollywood. We had a fantastic time.

Best way to be introduced to Salzburg

An amazing experience to be introduced to Salzburg. Our guide Mitch is easily one of our favorite tour guides ever. He picked us up at cruise port in Passau and we stopped in Mondsee to see wedding church and then onto Salzburg. We learned great facts about the real family and interesting elements with the making of the movie coupled with cultural and political dynamics. The tour allowed us to become familiar with Salzburg before suddenly immersed. Mitch was amazing. Fun Australian that has lived in Austria enough to be local as well. It was like having your led by a knowledgeable and good natured friend. Everything about this was perfect from ease of commute to fun introduction. Thank you Mitch

Sound of Music Private Tour including do-re-mi hiking trail: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Salzburg.

How much does Sound of Music Private Tour including do-re-mi hiking trail cost?

    +

Prices start at $1,028 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Salzburg usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Sound of Music Private Tour including do-re-mi hiking trail take?

    +

Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Salzburg is not rushed.

Is Sound of Music Private Tour including do-re-mi hiking trail worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 53 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.6/5 across 8 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Salzburg, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Sound of Music Private Tour including do-re-mi hiking trail?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Sound of Music Private Tour including do-re-mi hiking trail suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Sound of Music Private Tour including do-re-mi hiking trail?

    +

Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Salzburg can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Salzburg and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Sound of Music Private Tour including do-re-mi hiking trail start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Salzburg within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Salzburg?

    +

On Outty we rank every Salzburg experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Austrian Apple Strudel Cooking Class including Lunch in Salzburg, Salzburg Oldtown: Sightseeing Walking Tour with Licensed Local Guide, Salzburg: Palace Concert at the Marble Hall of Mirabell Palace. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Salzburg?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Salzburg?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.

What is included in Sound of Music Private Tour including do-re-mi hiking trail?

    +

Included: Private transportation; In-vehicle air conditioning; and private driver/guide. Not included: Gratuities. Always check the voucher for the final list before you travel.

Does Sound of Music Private Tour including do-re-mi hiking trail include hotel pickup?

    +

Yes, pickup is offered, or you can meet at the start point instead from 139 listed pickup locations in and around Salzburg. You can also enter a custom pickup address when booking.

What languages is Sound of Music Private Tour including do-re-mi hiking trail offered in?

    +

It is offered in German, English, Italian, French and Spanish. Pick your language when choosing a date and time, as not every departure runs in every language.

Will I get instant confirmation and a mobile ticket for Sound of Music Private Tour including do-re-mi hiking trail?

    +

Confirmation is sent by the operator after booking, usually within 48 hours; if it is not confirmed you are not charged. Mobile tickets are accepted, so you can show the voucher on your phone.

Is Sound of Music Private Tour including do-re-mi hiking trail wheelchair or stroller accessible?

    +

The operator notes: Infants and small children can ride in a pram or stroller; and Specialized infant seats are available. If accessibility is critical, contact the operator after booking to confirm arrangements for your date.

What happens to Sound of Music Private Tour including do-re-mi hiking trail if the weather is bad?

    +

It generally runs rain or shine, so dress for the forecast in Salzburg. Standard cancellation terms apply: free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start.
