About this experience

Instead of simply sampling drinks, you’ll start with a hands-on Apple Strudel cooking class, learning a beloved Austrian tradition from scratch. Afterwards, you’ll enjoy Austrian Tapas served in 4 courses, with 2–3 different regional specialties per course — designed to showcase the full spectrum of Austrian cuisine, from Alpine classics to seasonal favorites. Great food, great experience

What a great evening - "A Taste of Austria" hosted by Johan completely exceeded our expectations. Johan was very personable and the food itself was outstanding - beautifully authentic, full of flavour, and clearly prepared with real care and expertise. Every course felt thoughtfully put together, and you could tell a lot of love went into the menu. The apple strudel making was great… made it very simple and learned a lot. Highly recommend this experience to anyone wanting to discover Austrian cuisine in a warm, engaging, and beautifully hosted setting.

The highlight of our trip so far!

What a fun experience! Not only did we learn how to make apple strudel, he made it look easy. And then I thought we would receive just some small bites to eat, but it almost felt like a 5 course meal! He accommodated the vegetarians in the group and provided excellent wine and beer pairings. Truly an evening that surpassed our expectations. This event takes place at a cooking school room and the food preparation and presentation was excellent. A delicious and fun time!

Must Do in Salzburg

Learn how to make Strudel and while your dessert bakes enjoy 4 courses of local Austrian cuisine paired with either beer or wine. Both chefs are friendly and knowledgeable. Great event for family or friends. I highly recommend

The Best-Kept Secret in Salzburg!

This is the third experience we‘ve booked with Johann and the Edelweiss staff—all have been amazing! Many do not yet know about this cooking school. Their experiences are some of the best-kept secrets in Salzburg! The evenings are thoughtfully curated with a hands-on lesson on how to make a great Apfelstrudel, followed by a series of tapas, each more delicious than the previous and with vegetarian options, paired with the perfect glass of beer or wine. It’s the perfect way to experience the essence of Austrian cuisine. By far one of the best and most memorable experiences in Salzburg! Perfect for groups or good friends and family!

Taste Austria: Strudel Class | Local Tappas | Beer & Wine pairing: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Salzburg.

How much does Taste Austria: Strudel Class | Local Tappas | Beer & Wine pairing cost?

+

Prices start at $120 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Salzburg usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Taste Austria: Strudel Class | Local Tappas | Beer & Wine pairing take?

+

Plan for about 2.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Salzburg is not rushed.

Is Taste Austria: Strudel Class | Local Tappas | Beer & Wine pairing worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 62 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 21 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Salzburg, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Taste Austria: Strudel Class | Local Tappas | Beer & Wine pairing?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Taste Austria: Strudel Class | Local Tappas | Beer & Wine pairing suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 18. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 2.5-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Taste Austria: Strudel Class | Local Tappas | Beer & Wine pairing?

+

Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Salzburg can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Salzburg and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Taste Austria: Strudel Class | Local Tappas | Beer & Wine pairing start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Salzburg within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Salzburg?

+

On Outty we rank every Salzburg experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Austrian Apple Strudel Cooking Class including Lunch in Salzburg, Salzburg: Palace Concert at the Marble Hall of Mirabell Palace, The Original Sound of Music Tour in Salzburg. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Salzburg?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Salzburg?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
