Go in Sept-Oct
If we had traveled in September-October at the start of the season, I would give this a five star review, but we were there at the end of the season in March. Instead of seeing thousands of Magellanic penguins, we saw maybe 100, very close up which was neat. And the area is beautiful. But it’s a 2 1/2 hour drive from Puerto Madryn. I don’t know if we would have done it if we knew how few penguins were left. Thankfully, we were the first tour group of the day and had the place to ourselves for quite a while. Definite good fortune as it got very crowded later. Our tour guide and driver were both very good. They gave us a quick drive through downtown to show us where the highlights are and took us to the cave memorial. Very much appreciated!
Response from the operator: Hello Jill, Thank you very much for sharing your experience and for your kind words about our guide and driver. March is indeed the very end of the penguin season at Punta Tombo, when many Magellanic penguins have already migrated back to the ocean, which naturally reduces the number of animals present. Even so, we’re glad you were able to see them up close and enjoy the beauty of the area — and that arriving early allowed you to experience the reserve before the crowds. We truly appreciate your visit and your feedback.

Small group, small...
Small group, small vehicle. Frequent rest stops on this long drive from the port. Guide and driver were excellent with communicating the nature observed during the trip. Penguins were during the moulting season and were easy to observe from a boardwalk at the park. Up close with Magellanic penguins. Small cafe and shop at the park.
Response from the operator: Hello Lesek, Thank you very much for your review. We’re glad you enjoyed the small-group experience and the frequent stops along the way, as well as the information shared by our guide and driver. Molting season at Punta Tombo is indeed a special time to observe Magellanic penguins up close from the boardwalk. We appreciate you joining us and hope to welcome you again in Patagonia!

Lovely day to see the penguins.
Great communication with vendor who was able to adjust the tour schedule when our ship changed day of arrival in port. Marina our guide and our terrific driver delivered us safely to and from the penguin habitat. We learned not only about the wild life but also about life in Puerto Madryn in years past and now. Really appreciated the early pickup that enabled us to tour the reserve at our leisure before the buses arrived. Well worth the long drive; probably even more spectacular earlier in the year. Highly recommend!!!
Response from the operator: Marika. Thank you so much for your comments. We were able to do the entire tour that way thanks to your punctuality and the fact that the boat was in the city for several hours. We are grateful that you chose us and remain at your service.

The administrative...
The administrative department of this company provided excellent communication, even with a date change. Our tour was well run with Pablo as our driver and Hugo as our guide. Hugo gave us lots of information and answered the questions we had. The penguins were so fun to see up close and there were lots of them. We had a fantastic time!
Response from the operator: Thank you Stephanie we are glad you liked your tour to Punta Tombo and that you enjoyed being with the penguins. Hope to welcome you another time!

Trip to Punta Tombo to see the Megellanic penguins with a stop at dinosaur sculpture. While the drive was long, the tour guide Marianna made the trip enjoyable with information about the area, its history and and animal life.
Response from the operator: Thank you Kenneth! It was a pleasure to receive you and your brother! We are happy to know you liked the tour. Have a safe trip back!

Why this scores 78
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Shore Excursion Punta Tombo cruise passengers Puerto Madryn: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Puerto Madryn.
How much does Shore Excursion Punta Tombo cruise passengers Puerto Madryn cost?
+
Prices start at $125 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Puerto Madryn usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Shore Excursion Punta Tombo cruise passengers Puerto Madryn take?
+
Plan for about 7 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Puerto Madryn is not rushed.
Is Shore Excursion Punta Tombo cruise passengers Puerto Madryn worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 78 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 54 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Puerto Madryn, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Shore Excursion Punta Tombo cruise passengers Puerto Madryn?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Shore Excursion Punta Tombo cruise passengers Puerto Madryn suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 7-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Shore Excursion Punta Tombo cruise passengers Puerto Madryn?
+
Around 19 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Puerto Madryn can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Puerto Madryn and add a light layer if any part of the 7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Shore Excursion Punta Tombo cruise passengers Puerto Madryn start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Puerto Madryn within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Puerto Madryn?
+
On Outty we rank every Puerto Madryn experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include The Best of Peninsula Valdés in one day, Shore Tours Punta Tombo Cruise Ship Passengers Puerto Madryn, Snorkeling with Sea Lions by Madryn Buceo. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Puerto Madryn?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Puerto Madryn?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
