Punta Tombo
We start the tour with an approximately 2-hour drive to Punta Tombo. Along the way, we will make our first stop to observe the replica of the largest dinosaur ever discovered in the world, which was found in our province (approximately 15 minutes). We then continue our journey through the Patagonian steppe until reaching Punta Tombo, home to the most important Magellanic penguin colony on the American continent. Finally, we will visit the Punta Tombo Penguin Colony, where we will spend approximately 2 hours exploring the reserve. Fantastic photo opportunity of adorable penguins.
Wonderful experience and everything went smoothly. Collected by the driver and guide Marianna right outside the gate after disembarking the cruise ship. Two and a half hour drive to Punta Tombo. Our minibus was one of the first to arrive at the penguin colony so we practically had the place to ourselves and as we were leaving , the place was very busy with more buses arriving. Hundreds of penguins seen all along the boardwalk and at the ocean. Fabulous photographic opportunities. We spent two hours in Punta Tombo so plenty of time to enjoy the adorable penguins in their own habitat. Marianna was very professional, informative and helpful. She really ensured we got the best experience. A delicious and substantial box lunch was also provided. The driver did a great job getting us back to Puerta Madryn in time so we were treated to a tour of the city and a visit to the caves where the Welch emmigrants arrived. A fantastic day tour and highly recommended.
Response from the operator: Dear David. Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re really happy to hear that you had such a great experience visiting Punta Tombo and that everything ran smoothly from the moment you arrived. Being among the first to reach the penguin colony truly makes a difference, and we’re glad you got to enjoy it at its best, with plenty of space and amazing photo opportunities. Thank you again for recommending us. We hope to welcome you back to Puerto Madryn someday!

Cecelia is a star!
Great day out to Punta Tombo - Cecelia was one of the best tour guides we have ever had, so knowledgeable! The mini bus however was very cramped, probably one row of seats too many. It made the long journey there and back quite uncomfortable.

Punta Tombo trip for cruise passengers
Our group of 16 passengers were met at the end of the pier by a representative from Animal Tours and quickly escorted to our minibus where we met Cecilia, our guide. The minibus was clean and modern and we left promptly. Cecilia, was excellent and very knowledgeable. She spoke throughout the 2.5 hours to our destination - Punto Tombo where we had gone to see the penguins. There were enough comfort stops along the way and we were provided with an ample boxed lunch and 2 bottles of water after our visit. It was the end of the season and many of the penguins had already gone but there were enough to take some great pictures as well as pictures of other birds and animals. We had around 2 hours at the park. We had sufficient time before our cruise ship departed to have a tour around the town and a picture stop.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your detailed review! 😊 We’re very happy to hear that your group had a great experience from the moment you arrived until the end of the tour. It’s wonderful to know that Cecilia’s knowledge and guidance made the journey enjoyable, and that you were comfortable throughout the trip. Thank you again for choosing us, and we hope to welcome you back on another adventure here

Best opportunity to see Magellanic penguins on the cruise!
Animal Travel put together as good a tour as we could've expected, with the time limit imposed by our cruise ship schedule. It was well worth the long drive to Punta Tombo to see the penguin colony. We had good opportunities to see individual penguins up close and see thousands spread out on the beaches and in burrows. We also saw guanacos and numerous other interesting birds. Our guide kept us entertained with information about the history of the area, the geology and the wîldlife. Oh, and we paid a lot less than the cruise ship was charging, and did it with a smaller group.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your review! 😊 We’re really glad you enjoyed the visit to Punta Tombo and the chance to see so many Magellanic penguins up close, along with other wildlife. It’s great to hear you valued the small group experience and the alternative to cruise excursions. We always aim to make the most of your time ashore. Thanks again for choosing Animal Travel

Why this scores 89
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Shore Tours Punta Tombo Cruise Ship Passengers Puerto Madryn: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Puerto Madryn.
How much does Shore Tours Punta Tombo Cruise Ship Passengers Puerto Madryn cost?
+
Prices start at $120 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Puerto Madryn usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Shore Tours Punta Tombo Cruise Ship Passengers Puerto Madryn take?
+
Plan for about 7 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Puerto Madryn is not rushed.
Is Shore Tours Punta Tombo Cruise Ship Passengers Puerto Madryn worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 89 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 176 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most highly reviewed in Puerto Madryn, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Shore Tours Punta Tombo Cruise Ship Passengers Puerto Madryn?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Shore Tours Punta Tombo Cruise Ship Passengers Puerto Madryn suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 7-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Shore Tours Punta Tombo Cruise Ship Passengers Puerto Madryn?
+
Around 62 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Puerto Madryn can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Puerto Madryn and add a light layer if any part of the 7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Shore Tours Punta Tombo Cruise Ship Passengers Puerto Madryn start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Puerto Madryn within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Puerto Madryn?
+
On Outty we rank every Puerto Madryn experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include The Best of Peninsula Valdés in one day, Snorkeling with Sea Lions by Madryn Buceo, Cruise Shore Excursion Punta Tombo with Boxlunch from Pto Madryn. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Puerto Madryn?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Puerto Madryn?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
