Punta Tombo
We will visit the largest reserve of Magellan Penguins in South America. Once at destination, an entrance fee must be paid, where we also find an interesting Interpretation Center, dedicated to the different stages of the Penguin life cycle and its natural environment. At this point the most exciting part of the route begins, being able to walk among penguins, along a 1,5-kilometer path that begins in the Patagonian steppe field until you reach the coast area where the penguins arrive from the sea to the continent to recondition its nests every year and fulfill its cycle of breeding and breeding of its pigeons. You can see the vastness of the colony, full of nests everywhere. It is a unique experience in the world that few are lucky to live. It is worth mentioning that the penguins cohabit quietly with small rodents, the cuisines, and receive the sporadic visit of guanacos and choiques. Once the tour of the reservation is finished, we begin the return to the city.

By early March many of the penguins are molting and many must have started leaving so no big colony. Long bus ride but good tour leader Tina.

Great trip, great guide and spectacular penguins
What made this excursion so special was our guide, Mariana. She was one of the best guides I have ever had on a shore excursion and I have done over 50 cruises! She engaged us the entire way (a 2 ½ hour trip) with information on the area and on Punta Tomba. Once you get to Punta Tomba you are on your own to wander the area. The lunch was excellent. On the way home she was telling us about the cherries that grow in the region. She was able to stop at a local stand and buy some for the bus! Highly recommend the trip.

Great tour guide!
Tour guide was knowledgeable, friendly, informative and answered all our questions. She made the long trip to apunta Tombo very interesting. The bus was VERY uncomfortable. The seat in front of me was broken and I had little space. Men had to stretch their feet down the aisle as even working seats were way too close. In spite of the discomfort she managed to make it fun and interesting! Box lunch was good and they offered water when first entering the bus.
Response from the operator: Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience and for your kind words about our guide. We’re glad to hear that she made the journey to Punta Tombo interesting and enjoyable. We sincerely apologize for the discomfort you experienced on the bus. Your feedback is very important to us, and we will certainly take your comments into account when planning and assigning vehicles for future tours, to ensure a more comfortable experience for all our guests.

Wonderful penguin experience
This was great. We were fortunate that the weather was great, the many, many penguins were out and about. We also saw many guanaco, Rhea and flamingos. Our guide and driver were great. The lunch was good and we even had a short drive through town as we made good time returning. Highly recommend
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your comment and for choosing us. We are truly delighted that you enjoyed your experience in Punta Tombo, a truly magical place to see the Magellanic penguins in their natural habitat and, at the same time, discover our region’s iconic species. We hope you return very soon!

Cruise Shore Excursion Punta Tombo with Boxlunch from Pto Madryn: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Puerto Madryn.
How much does Cruise Shore Excursion Punta Tombo with Boxlunch from Pto Madryn cost?
+
Prices start at $120 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Puerto Madryn usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Cruise Shore Excursion Punta Tombo with Boxlunch from Pto Madryn take?
+
Plan for about 7 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Puerto Madryn is not rushed.
Is Cruise Shore Excursion Punta Tombo with Boxlunch from Pto Madryn worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 81 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 81 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Puerto Madryn, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Cruise Shore Excursion Punta Tombo with Boxlunch from Pto Madryn?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Cruise Shore Excursion Punta Tombo with Boxlunch from Pto Madryn suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 7-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Cruise Shore Excursion Punta Tombo with Boxlunch from Pto Madryn?
+
Around 28 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Puerto Madryn can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Puerto Madryn and add a light layer if any part of the 7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Cruise Shore Excursion Punta Tombo with Boxlunch from Pto Madryn start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Puerto Madryn within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Puerto Madryn?
+
On Outty we rank every Puerto Madryn experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include The Best of Peninsula Valdés in one day, Shore Tours Punta Tombo Cruise Ship Passengers Puerto Madryn, Snorkeling with Sea Lions by Madryn Buceo. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Puerto Madryn?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Puerto Madryn?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
