Penguin tour.

It was enjoyable day, but a long drive out and back. Not as many penguins as during mating season when the estimate there are 107,000 in the colony. The site it self was very well organized with the safety of the penguins in mind

Response from the operator: Thank you for your feedback. We’re glad to hear that you enjoyed the day and appreciated how well the site is organized with the safety of the penguins in mind. Punta Tombo can indeed involve a longer drive, but it is one of the most important penguin colonies in Patagonia. We hope you had a memorable experience observing these incredible animals in their natural habitat.

Great time with the...

Great time with the penguins. Be prepared for mile and 1/2 walk. Definitely worth the 2 hr drive each way

Response from the operator: Thank you for your feedback! We’re happy to hear you had a great time with the penguins. The walk and the drive are definitely worth it for such a unique wildlife experience. We hope to welcome you again on another adventure! 🐧

Long but worthwhile excursion

While this is a long ride to the main attraction it goes rather quickly with the guide giving information and telling you about the area. Folks should know there are rest stops provided going to and from the main destination -plus one available at the site.

Response from the operator: Thank you for your comments! We’re glad the guide’s explanations made the journey enjoyable, and we appreciate you highlighting the rest stops available along the way and at the site.

Nice up-close view of...

Nice up-close view of Magellanic penguin. Guide was knowledgeable and energetic. Bus microphone system, unfortunately, made high pitch noise all the way.

Response from the operator: Thank you for your feedback! We’re glad you enjoyed the close-up views of the Magellanic penguins and the guide’s enthusiasm 🐧 We apologize for the microphone issue and have shared it with our team to improve the service.

Very cool penguin experience!

Our tour guide and driver were great (Cecilia and Lace). They were to quick to get us on the van and headed towards Punta Tombo. Because of this we were some of the first visitors (before the mass of buses came). The closeness and quantity of the penguins in their natural environment make this a must do. The box lunch consisted of 2 sandwiches (ham/cheese and cut up chicken- one of each), bottled water, fruit, dessert, a granola bar… Yes the ride is long. It is about the penguins not the ride there.

Response from the operator: Thank you for your review! We’re glad you enjoyed the early visit to Punta Tombo with Cecilia and Lace and the amazing penguin experience. We appreciate you sharing your feedback!

Punta Tombo Shore Excursion w/box Lunch(Shared tour for cruises): questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Puerto Madryn.

How much does Punta Tombo Shore Excursion w/box Lunch(Shared tour for cruises) cost?

+

Prices start at $80 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Puerto Madryn usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Punta Tombo Shore Excursion w/box Lunch(Shared tour for cruises) take?

+

Plan for about 7 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Puerto Madryn is not rushed.

Is Punta Tombo Shore Excursion w/box Lunch(Shared tour for cruises) worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 76 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 42 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Puerto Madryn, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Punta Tombo Shore Excursion w/box Lunch(Shared tour for cruises)?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Punta Tombo Shore Excursion w/box Lunch(Shared tour for cruises) suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 1. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 7-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Punta Tombo Shore Excursion w/box Lunch(Shared tour for cruises)?

+

Around 15 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Puerto Madryn can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Puerto Madryn and add a light layer if any part of the 7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Punta Tombo Shore Excursion w/box Lunch(Shared tour for cruises) start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Puerto Madryn within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Puerto Madryn?

+

On Outty we rank every Puerto Madryn experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include The Best of Peninsula Valdés in one day, Shore Tours Punta Tombo Cruise Ship Passengers Puerto Madryn, Snorkeling with Sea Lions by Madryn Buceo. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Puerto Madryn?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Puerto Madryn?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
