    About this experience

We're called Unique for a reason... This is not your standard Hana tour. We'll take you on a full day adventure all the way to Hana and beyond then back, or all the way around (depending on weather and road conditions). We will stop at all the best spots along the way, as your driver negotiates the busy 650+ turns and 55+ one-lane bridges. You can just kick back, take in the views, and enjoy the fun! Highlights may include hiking through lush jungle, swim in pristine waterfalls, taste fresh banana bread and coconut ice cream, hidden lava tubes, scenic view points, local food trucks and farm stands, black or red sand beaches... and learning about Hawaii's history, geology, and legends... Remember it is YOUR private tour, so talk to your guide about what YOU like and want to do!

    What you'll see and do

    1. You'll have time to take a dip at Hana's famous Black Sand Beach in Wai'anapanapa State Park, check out the lava tube, and take a short walk along the rugged coastline for an amazing view at the vivid contrast of colors.

      45 minutes here

    2. Pua'a Ka'a State Park

One of the Road to Hana's most amazing waterfalls! Weather-permitting, you'll be able to swim in the "refreshing" water (read: chillyyyyy!!), and even get behind the waterfall for an epic photo.

      30 minutes here

    3. Ke‘anae Point

A big time favorite along the Road to Hana, Ke'anae point offers breathtaking views of the coastline, with big waves crashing on the rugged lava rocks. And of course, fresh banana bread, yum ;-)

      30 minutes here

    4. Hana

We'll reach Hana just around lunch time, and you'll have a choice to sample some of the yummy local food trucks in the area. Local bbq, fresh fish, Thai, Mexican, Huli Huli chicken...? It's always a surprise!

      45 minutes here

    5. Kaumahina State Wayside Park

A beautiful lookout point over the Hana coastline, overlooking Honomanu Bay and Ke'anae peninsula. Bonus point: a bathroom break if need!

      10 minutes here

    6. Koki Beach

Just beyond Hana is a small hill, where it is said the bones of Pele, Goddess of the volcanoes, are buried. The rock is crumbly and erosion has turned the beach a deep shade of red. (Note this is not Kaihalulu / Red Sand Beach, which requires trespassing on private property and following a dangerous trail on which accidents happen regularly--we don't do that).

      15 minutes here

    7. Wailua Falls

One of the Road to Hana's most photogenic waterfalls! If conditions allow, you might even be able to freshen up in the small pond.

      10 minutes here

    8. ‘Ohe‘o Gulch

We'll drive over the bridge that crosses over the famous Seven Sacred Pools, aka Oheo Gulch. Beautiful photo op! (Note: if you want to enter the National Park and hike up on the Pipiwai trail through the Bamboo Forest, up to Waimoku Falls, please select the 7 Sacred Pools & Bamboo Forest Hike Tour!)

      Pass by without stopping

    9. Alelele Bridge

Another stunning view on the Road to Hana, right at the edge between the lush rainforest of the "wet" side, and the dry brush of the "backside". (Note: going all the way around East Maui is NOT guaranteed, as it depends on weather, road conditions, and ongoing road works).

      Pass by without stopping

    10. Ho'okipa Beach Park

On the way back, if you still have a little bit of energy left, we can stop at Ho'okipa beach to check out surfing action, and hopefully a few turtles basking in the sun!

Stop scrolling, pick this tour, ask for Travis

Our tour guide Travis was amazing. Funny, knowledgeable and very good at offering options specific to our family and how we felt in the moment. The roads are very windy (600 switchbacks) but I never felt like we were in an unsafe situation, even when he had to back up or maneuver in tight circumstances - I felt that my family and I were very safe. Ask for Travis. He also knows a lot about Hawaiian culture, my husband, teen and 20 year old really enjoyed themselves. And so did I!

Response from the operator: Absolutely love this headline — Travis is going to love it too! Thank you for trusting us with your family’s Road to Hāna adventure. It means a lot to hear that everyone felt relaxed, safe, and genuinely engaged throughout the day. Travis is a gem and is excellent at shaping epic experiences! Your words capture that beautifully. Mahalo for choosing us and for sharing such a generous review! Pluma & the Unique Maui Tours ʻOhana

    Finding Paradise: a Personalized Trip

Kate guided us on a three separate days over a week. Whether it was the Road to Hana, the Haleakala National Park, or the La Perouse Bay and snorkeling, Kate was amazing. She knew every road, stop sign, food stop, chocolate stall, and the most scenic spots for pictures. She was absolutely amazing at taking pictures, and even had underwater cameras for snorkeling. She could give insights into cultural practices, history, and was just a pleasure to be around. We could always feel she was ready to pivot if needed , help us out, and did so many little and big things, that we felt really taken care of, and that we saw the best of Maui. These three days were beyond magical. 🥹💕✨

Response from the operator: Aloha Bonnie (and Cora), Three days together is enough time to become part of the ʻohana, and it was a true privilege to share so many different sides of Maui with you. Your description captures exactly what makes a great guide—not just knowledge and preparation, but the ability to read the moment, adapt, and help create experiences that feel effortless and meaningful. Thank you for trusting us with such a special part of your Maui journey. Reviews like this remind us why we do what we do. With gratitude and aloha, Pluma🌺✨

    KATE IS GREAT!!

Kate was the best. She knew exactly where to go, and kept us on pace without feeling like we were on a schedule. She knew all the best spots for pictures and made sure we had lots of photos for the memories. I saw other tour operators drop their people off and tell them where to go, and stayed in the van. Not Kate, she was leading the way through some occasional rain to make sure we saw everything there was to see. I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed the day with her. She has taken the time to learn the Hawai'ian culture, and it was really interesting to hear everything she had to say. PLUS, she knows her birds, and my son is an avid birder, so she was really able to point out some of the native birds to Hawai'i. She even had enough binoculars for all of us to watch. For me, the real highlight was the road beyond Hana that most tours don't do (and after watching her drive it, I know why). This is a hidden part of Hawai'i that I really enjoyed seeing. Great trip, great day - thanks Kate. Mahalo nui loa.

Response from the operator: Aloha Karen, and mahalo nui for such a thoughtful recounting of your day with us. 🌺 Kate will absolutely love hearing that the day felt natural, unrushed, and full of genuine Maui magic. The backside beyond Hāna is as wild as it is special and it's true that we do not often traverse the full loop! Happy the portal opened for you allowing your ohana to experience that hidden side of the island. It means so much that your family connected with the culture, the adventure, and even our native birds along the way. We’ll be sure Kate sees your kind words — she's one of the BEST at sharing these experiences with guests. Mahalo again for trusting us with part of your Maui adventure. A hui hou to your whole ‘ohana 🚙🦜 – P L U M A

    Two excellent tours

We did two excellent tours with Unique Maui Tours: a Group Birding Tour with Wendy as a guide, and a Private Tour of the Road to Hana with Pluma, the company owner. Both were fantastic experiences, and we'd recommend this company highly to anyone interested in tours around Maui. Birding Tour: Incredibly fun and well suited to both casual and seasoned birders. Wendy's energy is infectious, and the tour has a good balance of locations and experiences while simultaneously being 'easy' enough to be done by most. Would recommend highly to anyone interested in birding who is visiting. Road to Hana Private Tour: We also really loved this tour. We felt like we got a great sense of what the road to Hana was like without ever being stuck in traffic or feeling stuck in over-crowded areas. It felt like a fun day out with a friend.

Response from the operator: Aww, Shri + Olga this one made us smile big 🗿— These are exactly the kind of days we hope every guest has 🩵adventuring Maui with us! Doing BOTH a 🦜 birding tour with and a 🚙Road to Hana day is basically the ultimate Maui combo, so we love that you got to experience so much of what we do best. You're heartfelf words are honestly the highest compliment we could get. No traffic stress, no crowds, just good flow and good vibes with FOREVER OHANA... Thanks so much for spending your special holiday time with us and for sharing the love — hope we get to hang out again on a future Maui adventure 🌴🤙 P l u m a 🪶

Private Unique Road to Hana Adventure: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Kihei.

How much does Private Unique Road to Hana Adventure cost?

    +

Prices start at $751 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kihei usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Unique Road to Hana Adventure take?

    +

Plan for about 10 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Kihei is not rushed.

Is Private Unique Road to Hana Adventure worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 63 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 93 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable food & drink in Kihei, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Unique Road to Hana Adventure?

    +

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is Private Unique Road to Hana Adventure suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 10-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private Unique Road to Hana Adventure?

    +

Around 33 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kihei can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kihei and add a light layer if any part of the 10-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Unique Road to Hana Adventure start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Kihei within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Kihei?

    +

Kihei, HI packs its best experiences into walkable neighborhoods, local food, and day trips nearby. Outty ranks every bookable tour and activity in Kihei by rating quality, review depth, booking demand and value, so you can see the standouts before you book. On Outty we rank every Kihei experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Road to Hana Adventure Maui Tour with Lunch, Maui: Haleakala Sunrise Spectacular with Local Breakfast, Maui: Famous Road to Hana Waterfalls and Lunch by Mercedes Van. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Kihei?

    +

Spring and fall bring the best weather and lighter crowds in Kihei, while summer has the widest choice of tours and evening activities. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Kihei?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
