Fantastic Pompeii and Herculaneum tour.
Book this tour! My adult children and I had the most wonderful day starting with our driver, Stefano, who picked us up from our hotel. He was so very kind, generous and helpful. When we arrived in Pompeii we met Lello who was awesome. As an archaeologist who has worked at both Pompeii and Herculaneum, he absolutely knew what he was talking about. We all love learning and we learnt so much today. Lello was engaging, friendly, humorous and made us feel welcome. We couldn’t have wished for a better experience. To see both sites and learn about the different ways that the eruption of Mt Vesuvius affected both sites was incredible. We highly recommend.

Absolutely book your tour with this company
We booked a private tour and were completely blessed to have Luigi as our driver and Italo as our guide. Luigi was delightful and made us feel very welcome and gave as an interesting insight into how the ancient eruption still impacts modern life. Italo was an amazing guide, who taught us how to read the ruins and bought the past to life. He took us to all the best spots in both sites and avoided all the crowds. His passion and knowledge for Pompeii and Herculaneum shone brightly, and we are so grateful to have had Italo as our guide.

Great way to efficiently see Pompeii and Herculaneum in a short time
We were picked up at the cruise terminal in Naples and met our guide, Italo, at Herculaneum to start the day. We then went to Pompeii. Both sites were a bit less crowded on a Sunday. Italo was very knowledgeable and showed us things we didn’t see on a prior visit. We were able to ask plenty of questions, and we got off the touristy paths to see lots more than we would have on a group tour. Our driver, Rafaele, was a safe driver, very pleasant. The van was very comfortable as well.

Amazing tour of Pompeii and Herculaneum
Six of us (2 families of 3) went on the tour of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Our tour guide was Marina, and she was amazing! Her knowledge of the ruins was so impressive, and she was so enthusiastic and entertaining. Even our 2 teenagers paid attention!! She also traveled with us on the local train to go from Pompeii to Herculaneum - we didn't realize that this can be a bit of a challenging way to go between the two, but she was very helpful. I highly recommend!

Pompeii & Herculaneum Private Tour
We booked a private tour of Pompeii & Herculaneum with Italo. Ask for him specifically, as his knowledge of history, architecture, religion, and analogies to modern day situations helped bring the tour to life. He was born a short distance away, and his passion of preserving antiquity shows. Thank you Italo!

Why this scores 78
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Pompeii and Herculaneum Private Tour with Native Guide and Skip the Line Tickets: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Pompeii.
How much does Pompeii and Herculaneum Private Tour with Native Guide and Skip the Line Tickets cost?
+
Prices start at $79 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Pompeii usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Pompeii and Herculaneum Private Tour with Native Guide and Skip the Line Tickets take?
+
Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Pompeii is not rushed.
Is Pompeii and Herculaneum Private Tour with Native Guide and Skip the Line Tickets worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 78 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 45 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Pompeii, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Pompeii and Herculaneum Private Tour with Native Guide and Skip the Line Tickets?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Pompeii and Herculaneum Private Tour with Native Guide and Skip the Line Tickets suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Pompeii and Herculaneum Private Tour with Native Guide and Skip the Line Tickets?
+
Around 16 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Pompeii can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Pompeii and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Pompeii and Herculaneum Private Tour with Native Guide and Skip the Line Tickets start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Pompeii within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Pompeii?
+
On Outty we rank every Pompeii experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Skip the Line Guided Tour of Pompeii Led by an Archaeologist, Premium Minivan Trip from Rome: Pompeii Tour & Lunch in Sorrento, Explore Pompeii with an Archaeologist. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Pompeii?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Pompeii?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
