Brilliant!
We had a super interesting 2 hour tour with our guide Vince who really made the experience for us! He was super knowledgeable, had great facts about Pompeii and Italy in general and was funny! Our kids (aged 12 and 16) were really engaged with the commentary he gave and we all learnt a lot. The girls on the arrival team were also great as we were late due to our train being cancelled and they swapped us onto the next tour with no problems. Would 100% recommend especially for families with teens.

Fantastic guided tour with Ciro G!!!
We had a fantastic tour of pompeii with Ciro. He really added to the experience by giving great insight into the different buildings and how they were affected by the eruption. An incredibly hot day, he kept the pace down with plenty of breaks in the shade. He was awesome at answering every question, and i found that he really engaged everyone in the group. Thanks Ciro!

Amazing tour with Ciro!
I have marked the pickup down one point as it told us to meet them up the road. While we walked up the hill we met two people from askos walking down towards the entrance gates and they said to follow them. So this was a little misleading as we should have gone to the entrance gates. No matter though as we got there in the end. Our tour guide was Ciro Garofalo and he was fantastic! He was funny, approachable, engaging and most of all wonderfully knowledgeable. There was no question he couldn't answer, he knew everything about everything. I definitely recommend a guided tour rather than an audio guide as you learn so much more. In the two hours I never got bored once, he was great to listen to. He also cared about giving us rest stops and time in the shade on what was an extremely hot day. He never walked too fast so the walking was manageable for everyone. I am so pleased we were assigned to him, he made our experience incredible. I give him 10/10! Thank you Ciro!

Amazing Tour
Amazing tour. Sergio was very knowledgeable about the sight and gave really good insight into Pompeii. Length was amazing and he was able to then tell us where to go to see key points once the tour had ended. Only issue was a slightly delayed start due to some people showing up late. Other than that would definitely book again.

Why this scores 92
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Explore Pompeii with an Archaeologist: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Pompeii.
How much does Explore Pompeii with an Archaeologist cost?
+
Prices start at $15 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Pompeii usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Explore Pompeii with an Archaeologist take?
+
Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Pompeii is not rushed.
Is Explore Pompeii with an Archaeologist worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 92 out of 100, which we label "90+ Club". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 606 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most highly reviewed in Pompeii, and how flexible the cancellation terms are. Scoring 90 or above puts it in the Outty 90+ Club, the top tier of everything we rank.
Can I cancel or reschedule Explore Pompeii with an Archaeologist?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Explore Pompeii with an Archaeologist suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Explore Pompeii with an Archaeologist?
+
Around 212 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Pompeii can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Pompeii and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Explore Pompeii with an Archaeologist start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Pompeii within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Pompeii?
+
On Outty we rank every Pompeii experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Skip the Line Guided Tour of Pompeii Led by an Archaeologist, Premium Minivan Trip from Rome: Pompeii Tour & Lunch in Sorrento, Pompeii 2h Small-Group Tour with Expert Archaeologist. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Pompeii?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Pompeii?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
