THAT WAS REALLY GREAT GROUP FUN!!!

An outdoor escape room adventure??? What a concept! Ok, you checked the "cool idea" box, but what about the venue, and the game itself? The venue is Milwaukee's RiverWalk, which turned out to be a beautiful setting with a lot of neat history -- including a walk past the world-famous Safe House (google it) -- and a lot of historical plaques for those who like to read them. Really really fun -- this was an infinitely better venue than any "game room" we've ever visited. (We also caught a beautiful day - be sure to watch the forecast.) And the game? Really, really fun because it was extremely well thought out and well put together. For starters, it's entirely self-paced. There is no ticking clock, no pressure, which is often a downer in a lot of escape room adventures. Solve each riddle as slowly or as quickly as you wish; take all afternoon if you like. THAT was a big plus. The kit -- a box of clues and materials you're given to start the game -- was very well put together and is used throughout the game. There were, I think, six or seven different "stages" - moving from one location to another to solve the next stage. We found the course to be extremely challenging, but it was also clear that any experience level can solve it. How is it possible to have a high challenge level that any experience level can pass? Because the online component (you're going to need your smartphones!) was REALLY well done. Need a hint? Here you go -- but they're not giving it away. You might call the first one "hint light" for experts. Not enough? Ask for more. You take what you need, like bites at the apple, all the way up to "Ok, here's the answer...", but they're not handing it to you unless you ask for it. That, I think -- the way the online component is put together -- is the best part of an outstanding experience. If you want to be challenged, solving each riddle on your own, go for it. If you're breaking, starting to argue with each other or getting ready to throw your phone in the river, take a hint. Or two. We did, a bunch. If you're a first-time group and you're mystified by the complex and often maddening clue structure of a good "escape" experience, you're going to learn a lot, have fun, get the hang of it, and by the time you finish you'll still be successful even if you have to take a few mulligans to get there. "Ohhh, I get it. Arghh, how did we not see that? Oh, no way! That was just evil!" (If you've done escape rooms, you know what I mean.) If you're a large group, this is still an excellent experience. They limit you to 6 players in a group, and it turns out there's a good reason for that. We were more than 6 and we were not really keen on having to split up, but once we started the game we figured out you can play together with two groups. (Don't tell them I said that.) However, it was a VERY good thing they made us get two kits because there is a lot of important material in each box. Picture your large group standing at a stage trying to figure out an insidiously difficult clue with everyone trying to get their hands on the materials at the same time... Trust me, it would have been awful. Instead, we naturally separated into two groups, working together, occasionally competing, but the whole family was able to travel/sleuth together. This was a great experience, really well thought out and put together. Easily 5 stars.

    Disorganized pickup

We reserved our box a week in advance, and when we arrived for pickup, they had no boxes left.

Fun but wish for a different storyline

I didn’t love the storyline of this one, but the activities themselves were fun, unique, challenging, and incorporated the surroundings really well! If there were other storylines, I’d definitely do this again!

    A great outdoor activity

Plan for about 3 hrs and a lot of walking. Be sure to look high and low, and pay attention to your envelope cards. All-in-all, our family absolutely enjoyed the experience. You'll get to see history along the way. The Riverwalk itself is nice. We just felt it was overpriced, considering that the Riverwalk itself is free, and all your doing is using cards to solve a puzzle.

    So much fun!

The Relic tour box was SO much fun! It guided us through Milwaukee’s iconic RiverWalk, ending at a pub. Highly recommended!

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Milwaukee.

How much does Outdoor Escape Room in Milwaukee - RiverWalk cost?

    +

Prices start at $75 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Milwaukee usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Outdoor Escape Room in Milwaukee - RiverWalk take?

    +

Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Milwaukee is not rushed.

Is Outdoor Escape Room in Milwaukee - RiverWalk worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 46 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.2/5 across 13 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Milwaukee, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Outdoor Escape Room in Milwaukee - RiverWalk?

    +

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is Outdoor Escape Room in Milwaukee - RiverWalk suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Outdoor Escape Room in Milwaukee - RiverWalk?

    +

Around 5 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Milwaukee can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Milwaukee and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Outdoor Escape Room in Milwaukee - RiverWalk start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Milwaukee within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Milwaukee?

    +

Milwaukee runs brewery and distillery tours, Harley-Davidson Museum visits, Lake Michigan cruises, riverwalk kayaking and food tours through the Third Ward. On Outty we rank every Milwaukee experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Personal and Detailed Milwaukee Sightseeing Bus Tour, Old Milwaukee 9am E-Bike Tour, Skip the Line: Museum Admission Ticket - Grohmann Museum. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Milwaukee?

    +

May to September. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Milwaukee?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
