More Than a Trek — A Journey with Family - Shiva Excursion
I trekked the Mardi Himal Trek with Shiva Excursions in April 2026, and it was honestly one of the most wonderful and unforgettable experiences of my life. This was my very first time visiting Nepal and also my very first trekking experience. I travelled together with my sister and two friends, and choosing Shiva Excursions turned out to be the best decision we could have made. From the very beginning, Arjun organised everything so smoothly and professionally. What truly stood out about him was his honesty, sincerity, and genuine care for people. At no point did we ever feel like we were being treated as customers — instead, we felt like family. Arjun always prioritised our wellbeing, comfort, and safety above everything else, including money, which is something very rare to find nowadays. Arjun was accompanied by Suman and Pradeep, and the three of them made an incredible team. They were exceptionally kind, caring, patient, and hardworking throughout the entire trek. No matter how difficult the journey became, they never once complained. They were constantly checking on us, making sure we were comfortable, safe, warm, and doing well physically and emotionally. Arjun is the kind of guide every trekker hopes to have — honest, patient, dependable, and genuinely caring. He has a very calm and reassuring presence, and throughout the trek, he constantly prioritised our safety, comfort, and wellbeing. What touched me most was his dedication and sincerity. Even during difficult moments, he encouraged and supported us wholeheartedly, never once making us feel like a burden. He treated us like family, and that made the entire experience even more meaningful and unforgettable. Suman deserves a very special mention because he was truly one of the highlights of this journey for me. He was always smiling, always cheerful, and always encouraging us with such positive energy. His kindness and warmth made the trek so much more enjoyable and memorable. Since this was my first high-altitude trek, I did struggle at times with breathing and exhaustion. Before we started, I remember telling Arjun, “Please get me to the top,” and he kept his word. During the most difficult moments, Arjun literally held my hands, encouraged me, and stayed beside me to ensure I completed the trek safely. I will never forget his dedication, patience, and commitment. His support gave me both physical and emotional strength when I needed it the most. The entire experience felt less like travelling with a tour company and more like travelling with people who genuinely cared for us like family. That feeling of safety, trust, and warmth made all the difference. Shiva Excursions is a company you can truly trust. They are honest, sincere, and passionate about what they do. They will never try to rip you off, and every dollar you spend is absolutely worth it because of the incredible care and experience they provide. The Mardi Himal Trek itself was breathtakingly beautiful, but what made this journey truly unforgettable were the people who guided us through it. Thank you, Arjun, Suman, and Pradeep, for giving us memories that we will cherish forever. I highly, highly recommend Shiva Excursions to anyone considering trekking in Nepal — especially first-time trekkers who want to feel safe, supported, and genuinely cared for.

Human Connection in Nepal
It always comes down to people, doesn’t it? The people you work with. The people you play with. And the people you travel with. It takes just one bad apple for a perfectly planned trip to fall apart. Many of us have learned that good friends don’t automatically make good travel companions. And sometimes, you connect even better with strangers. That’s exactly what happened with our guide, Arjun, and porters, Pradeep and Suman from Shiva Excursion. The three of them went above and beyond to make the four of us feel safe, cared for, and completely at home on our maiden trip to Nepal (our first international trip together). When you travel with the right people and are looked after by the right team, even wrong turns can feel right. We expected direction, instructions, and tips. But what we received was genuine human connection. That made all the difference and elevated our experience on one of the most beautiful trails we’ve ever seen. Kindness cannot be faked, and Arjun embodies it. He would help anyone in need along the way. At one point, he assisted an elderly woman navigating steep stairs in a dimly lit underground temple in Pokhara. Later, during a farewell dinner hosted by Shiva Excursion (where we met his lovely wife and children), we saw the source of that kindness. He is a devoted husband and a loving father, and the way he cared for us reflected those values. He treated us like extended family. A special shout-out to Pradeep and Suman, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. At every teahouse, they ensured our rooms were ready, our meals were served promptly, our water containers refilled, and even our phones were charged, all with quiet, clockwork efficiency. I wholeheartedly recommend Shiva Excursion. They are a well-organized and well-connected local agency. But what truly sets them apart is something you can’t put a price on: genuine human connection.

More Than a Trek – A Mardi Himal Experience That Felt Like Family!
My friends and I recently completed the 5 days Mardi Himal trek with Shiva Excursion and I can honestly say this journey was more than just a hike. It was an experience I will carry with me for a lifetime. From the very beginning, our guide Arjun made us feel safe, supported and genuinely cared for. His passion for what he does truly shows, but what stood out even more was the way he treated us—not as clients, but as his own. There was a quiet, constant sense of being looked after like family especially in moments when we didn’t even have to ask. A special mention to Suman and Pradeep, who were absolute pillars of strength throughout the trek. Their kindness and patience kept us going even during the toughest moments. They carried not just our bags, but also our spirits when the climb got challenging. It never felt like a job to them. They showed up for us with the kind of care and sincerity you would only expect from family. There were moments of exhaustion and even silence, but somehow with this team, those moments turned into strength, laughter and deep connection. The mountains test you but with the right people beside you, they also heal you. Thank you, Arjun, Suman and Pradeep for being such an important part of this journey. You didn’t just guide us through the Himalayas—you walked beside us, supported us and left a lasting mark in our hearts. I would highly recommend Shiva Excursion to anyone looking not just for a trek but for an experience filled with care, authenticity and unforgettable memories.

It's not the destination that matters, it's the journey and the company that matters the most
I had one of the best travel experiences of my life with Shiva Excursion on the Mardi Himal Trek. From the very beginning, everything was exceptionally well arranged. The trek itself is both beautiful and challenging — “beautifully tough” would be the perfect way to describe it. But what truly made this journey unforgettable was the incredible team. A special mention to our guide Arjun, assisted by Pradeep and Suman. Their care, attention, and genuine warmth went far beyond expectations. They didn’t just guide us — they looked after us like family. Every step of the way, they ensured we were safe, comfortable, and motivated. The bonding we built during the trek was truly special. By the end of the journey, it felt less like a tour and more like travelling with friends. Thanks to them, every challenging moment became meaningful, and every bit of pain was absolutely worth it. The views were nothing short of spectacular, and experiencing snow along the trek made it even more magical. It was one of those journeys that stays with you long after you’ve left. We honestly fell in love with Nepal and were genuinely sad to leave. Mardi Himal Trek is a must-do — and even more so, a must-do with Shiva Excursion. Highly, highly recommended!

Why this scores 56
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Mardi Himal Trek: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Kathmandu.
How much does Mardi Himal Trek cost?
+
Prices start at $974 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kathmandu usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Mardi Himal Trek take?
+
Plan for about 240 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Kathmandu is not rushed.
Is Mardi Himal Trek worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 56 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 4 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable culture & history in Kathmandu, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Mardi Himal Trek?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is Mardi Himal Trek suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 7. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 240-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Mardi Himal Trek?
+
Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kathmandu can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kathmandu and add a light layer if any part of the 240-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Mardi Himal Trek start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Kathmandu within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Kathmandu?
+
On Outty we rank every Kathmandu experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Private Kathmandu Sightseeing Tour | UNESCO World Heritage sites, Classic Everest Base Camp Trek, Manaslu Circuit Trek. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Kathmandu?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Kathmandu?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
