In Cascais, the hidden pearl of the Atlantic, we will stop for lunch at the fishing village and visit. Cascais began as a fishing village in the 19th century. XIV by royal decree of King Dom Pedro I and it remained that way until the 19th century. XIX with the arrival of the Portuguese royal family, King Dom Luís and his wife Dona Maria Pia de Saboia, which became a summer village for the royal family and Portuguese nobles. Its typical fishermen's houses, the beaches bathed by the Atlantic and illuminated by the radiant Sun of Cascais give this town a unique charm which fell in love with European Kings during World War II who went into exile here in the town of Cascais and which led to a wave of popularity that was enjoyed by the rich and famous in Portugal and beyond.

Loved 8 hr Sintra/Cascais tour and Emilio!
We had a wonderful tour with Emilio. He was very funny and charismatic and informative. He made the tour special and enjoyable. Loved the spots we saw and the restaurant recommendations in Cascais. We did the Chicken King. It was excellent and a value for the money. Do the take-out kiosk next to the restaurant if it’s crowed to sit down. The castle was amazing. But tickets in advance to see the inside rooms or else you will only be able to walk around the courtyards and the gardens. Hike to the white cross at he top of the hill. When in Cascais, walk the town and get gelato at Santini’s When In Sintra, skip the Queens castle tour and just do the city. Try the wine bars in town! VictorB

It does not even deserve 1 star!
This is the promise presented on the VIATOR website: “Discover the hidden gems of Sintra and Cascais on this comprehensive tour, which saves you the hassle of making your own way between the scattered attractions. First, explore the colorful medieval streets of Sintra. Pass by royal estates and enjoy lush panoramic views, with a visit to the colorful Pena National Palace. You will also visit the mysterious Quinta da Regaleira and the charming fishing village of Cascais.” The tour is presented as a way to maximize your time in Sintra and Cascais, visit several attractions in a single day, receive information from a guide and, above all, leave the transportation between the different locations to the tour operator. However, our experience fell far short of what was advertised and promised. 1- Lack of guidance and information from the tour guide The tour guide left us alone on many occasions, without providing any information or guidance, to the point where we had to find our own way around. We do not consider this to be consistent with the service expected from a contracted tour. 2- Very demanding walking and steep inclines The tour involves a considerable amount of walking, including some very steep and demanding uphill sections. During the tour, we saw several people, particularly elderly participants, struggling considerably to keep up with the group. This information should be made much clearer and more prominent in the tour description, as it is an important factor for each person to consider when deciding whether they are physically able to participate. Regarding the visit to Pena Palace, I believe the tour description should clearly state in advance that there is approximately a 30-minute walk uphill, from the entrance gate to the palace, which is located at the top of the mountain. This is extremely important information, particularly for people with reduced mobility, elderly visitors, or simply anyone who is not prepared for such a demanding walk. Furthermore, the guide did not inform us that there is a shuttle bus that takes visitors from the entrance gate to the palace. I only discovered this option later, when I was telling a friend about this very unpleasant experience. I find it unacceptable that such relevant information, which could have prevented such an exhausting walk, was not communicated to the participants. If an alternative transportation option is available, the minimum we should have expected was for the guide to inform the group about it and explain how to use it. 3- Problems with the bus and unnecessary excessive walking Our bus experienced problems, and we were forced to walk a considerable distance, including a very demanding uphill section. Some people actually gave up on the tour, while others, particularly elderly participants, had to make several stops to rest and drink water, with encouragement and support from other members of the group, rather than from the guide. The situation reached a point where the entire group had to stop and tell the guide that we would not continue walking, as the physical effort required had exceeded what was reasonable for many of the participants. And, surprisingly, at that very moment, a bus immediately arrived to transport us. The obvious question is: if a bus was available, why was it not provided earlier, instead of forcing the participants to walk such a long distance? This is particularly difficult to understand in a tour that already requires considerable physical effort due to the amount of walking and the steep inclines. 4- Change to the tour itinerary and insufficient time Another major discrepancy compared with the original description was the change in the order of the itinerary. The tour was conducted in a different order from the one originally presented, starting with Cascais. In addition, we had far too little time to properly visit the attractions included in the tour. The constant feeling was that we were always racing against the clock, without enough time to experience and appreciate the places we were visiting. A tour that promises to allow customers to “check out several must-see attractions in just one day” should, at the very least, provide a reasonable amount of time to enjoy those attractions, rather than simply rushing through them. In conclusion, we believe there is a significant difference between what is promised in the tour description and what was actually provided. The experience was exhausting, disorganized and extremely frustrating. We paid for a tour that was supposed to make visiting Sintra and Cascais easier, but instead we were faced with long walks, a lack of information, changes to the itinerary and insufficient time to properly visit the included attractions. We were deeply disappointed and believe that the tour did not correspond to the service advertised by VIATOR.

I was a solo traveller and this was absolutely so much fun! First and foremost- Emilio, Our tour guide was absolutely fantastic! He interacts with everyone, discusses relevant facts, and made the whole experience unforgettable! I laughed all day listening to his stories! He and another guide spoke at least 3-4 languages so everyone was covered! Kudos to our bus driver who managed very narrow cobblestone streets with such ease! 100% this is a great tour to do with Vision Tours Portugal!

Sitra Reminds of Kenscoff in Haiti
I enjoyed Sitra and the Pena Palace most. The driver did a fantastic job driving through the rain and fogs into the steep, curvy, and narrow streets of Sitra. An environment that reminded me of my own home town in Haiti (Kenscoff). The guide provided insightful historical backgrounds of each city and Portugal as a whole. I only wished the bus had WiFi and power outlets to charge the phones. Also, it would be helpful to inform participants, in advance, on wearing appropriate clothes as the weather seems to be unpredictable especially at Sitra.
