Salzwelten Salzburg
An exciting journey deep into the Dürrnberg, where miners were hauling a treasure out into the daylight over 2500 years ago, one that took its rightful place right next to jewels and diamonds: known as "white gold". For some 450 years, visitors from around the world have been entering the Hallein salt mine, deep inside the Dürrnberg. Which makes the Hallein salt mine the first in history to open its tunnels to the public. All were fascinated by the mysterious subterranean world. And to this very day, the mines which the Ancient Celts clawed meter-by-meter out of the Earth over 2500 years ago have lost none of their magical appeal.

Absolutely amazing. Michael is a wonderful tour guide. Very friendly and great knowledge as well as deep history. He even gave us great tips around Salzburg. Highly recommend this tour for anyone visiting the area as the ice caves and salt are truly unique.

Highly recommend
The experience was amazing. One of a kind. Michael our guide made sure everything went smoothly and let us know in advance what we could expect. He had things arranged for us at the sites and even had a couple of extras for us as time permitted. Would book again and/or for additional tours.

Michael Made an Incredible Experience Truly Unforgettable
We had the pleasure of having Michael as our private guide for both Eagle's Nest and Hallstatt, and the Ice Caves, Waterfalls, and Salt Mine tours, and he truly made both experiences unforgettable. Michael is everything you want in a guide, kind, engaging, incredibly knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about sharing his country. He could dive into history, food or culture, and every conversation felt easy and fun. So that our whole family felt engaged. What really set him apart was the personal touch. He shared local stories and hidden details we never would have discovered on our own, and made every stop feel seamless and special. Our whole family loved it. He was as much a highlight as the sights themselves. Can't recommend Michael highly enough. Thank you, Michael, for helping make our family vacation truly exceptional.

Michael was an awesome...
Michael was an awesome guide. We created our own itinerary and he took us to all our favorite stops. The stops included the Eisriesenwelt ice caves, Liechtensteinklamm Gorge, Golling Waterfall, and the Keltenblitz Alpine Slides. He also pointed out other sites as we were driving. He was the best!!!!!

Ice Caves, Waterfalls, and Salt Mines Private Tour from Salzburg: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Salzburg.
How much does Ice Caves, Waterfalls, and Salt Mines Private Tour from Salzburg cost?
+
Prices start at $1,016 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Salzburg usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Ice Caves, Waterfalls, and Salt Mines Private Tour from Salzburg take?
+
Plan for about 9 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Salzburg is not rushed.
Is Ice Caves, Waterfalls, and Salt Mines Private Tour from Salzburg worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 69 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 23 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Salzburg, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Ice Caves, Waterfalls, and Salt Mines Private Tour from Salzburg?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Ice Caves, Waterfalls, and Salt Mines Private Tour from Salzburg suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 9-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Ice Caves, Waterfalls, and Salt Mines Private Tour from Salzburg?
+
Around 8 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Salzburg can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Salzburg and add a light layer if any part of the 9-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Ice Caves, Waterfalls, and Salt Mines Private Tour from Salzburg start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Salzburg within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Salzburg?
+
On Outty we rank every Salzburg experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Austrian Apple Strudel Cooking Class including Lunch in Salzburg, Salzburg Oldtown: Sightseeing Walking Tour with Licensed Local Guide, Salzburg: Palace Concert at the Marble Hall of Mirabell Palace. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Salzburg?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Salzburg?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
