    Lovely drive to the north...

Lovely drive to the north side of the island, great vineyard tour and views, and loved the cliff overlook and the seaside village visit. Great trip all around.

    A Little Disappointed

A little disappointed with this tour. A group of 8 squeezed into a Mercedes Vito with little or no air con on a very humid day. The first stop of 15 minutes was simply enough to stretch our legs and take a photo, while the second stop was pointless as cloud cover meant there was absolutely no visibility. The scenery on the way, and at the vineyard was spectacular, and the short tour of some of the vines and tasting was good. Make sure you take a sun hat and sensible shoes as the vineyard path is uneven. Another hot, sticky return journey spoilt the excursion for us.

Response from the operator: It sounds like a really frustrating experience, especially when you're looking forward to a great day out. Dealing with high humidity and a packed vehicle with broken or weak air conditioning can absolutely drain the fun out of any excursion, no matter how beautiful the destination is. It is a shame that the cloud cover ruined the view at one of your stops—nature doesn't always cooperate, but it's particularly disappointing when it feels like a wasted stop on an already uncomfortable ride. On the bright side, thank you for sharing the helpful practical tips about the vineyard paths, sun hats, and sensible shoes. It's great that the scenery and the actual wine tasting managed to shine through despite the travel conditions

Nice to get out of Funchal

As we only visited a single vineyard, it is a slight stretch to call it a wine tour. However the vineyard itself was quite interesting, and a little different from those in less mountainous terrain. The wine tasting was actually very enjoyable. We also enjoyed the two other stops on the tour, although not wine related. Our driver was excellent and very friendly.

Response from the operator: Thank you for your feedback. We're glad you enjoyed the tasting and our driver's service. You make a great point about the tour name, because Madeira's steep terrain makes large-scale vineyards rare, we focus on quality over quantity. However, we'll review our description to make it clearer that this is a 'scenic & wine' experience. We hope the flavors of the north stay with you

    A must do!

This is a must-do for any wine lover visiting the island! Manuel was our guide and absolutely wonderful! He got to our hotel early to pick us up and shared great knowledge about the area with us on the drive. We stopped in a cute fishing town to see Winston Churchill’s church and then at the highest cliff for some beautiful pictures of the island - both stops were well worth it! Then we headed to Barbusana for a quick vineyard tour (it was cold and muddy) with a small group before joining the host inside for the tasting. We had 3 reds, 1 rose, and 2 reds (all were delicious!) alongside a small meat and cheese tray. The host at the vineyard was incredibly knowledgeable on the vineyard and how they grow grapes in Portugal and it was great to learn from her. The highlight of the trip was Manuel - he was so fun and knowledgable. We would definitely book another trip with him when back in the area. Tips: bring 3 euros per person to visit the cliff and comfy shoes (that you don’t mind if they get dirty).

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for this wonderful and detailed review! We are thrilled that Manuel made such a great impression, he truly loves sharing the history and beauty of Madeira with our guests, and we’ll be sure to pass your kind words along to him

    Had a lot of fun

We (8 ladies) had a great afternoon with Alpino! He drove us around safely and gave a lot of information about his beloved island. The wine tasting was very nice and relaxed. Really worth it!

Response from the operator: Thanks for sharing your experience. We’re delighted to hear you and your group had a wonderful afternoon with Albino and enjoyed the relaxed wine tasting. Your feedback truly means a lot to all of us at Madeira Island Tours.

Half-Day Small-Group Wine Tour in Madeira: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Funchal.

How much does Half-Day Small-Group Wine Tour in Madeira cost?

    +

Prices start at $83 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Funchal usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Half-Day Small-Group Wine Tour in Madeira take?

    +

Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Funchal is not rushed.

Is Half-Day Small-Group Wine Tour in Madeira worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 62 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.6/5 across 57 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Funchal, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Half-Day Small-Group Wine Tour in Madeira?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Half-Day Small-Group Wine Tour in Madeira suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Half-Day Small-Group Wine Tour in Madeira?

    +

Around 20 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Funchal can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Funchal and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Half-Day Small-Group Wine Tour in Madeira start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Funchal within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Funchal?

    +

On Outty we rank every Funchal experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Jeep Tour Amazing West to Natural Pools -Full-Day, Porto Moniz, Seixal, Fanal Forest, Cliff Skywalk in Open Roof 4X4, West Tour-Fanal Forest & Porto Moniz Natural Pools Small Groups. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Funchal?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Funchal?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
