One of best days ever
It’s magical and a time to reflect. Sergio was a superb guide and driver. He was well mannered, interesting and attentive to everyone. The journey home was really enjoyable as we travelled down the mountain. Lovely coffee stop with time to relax and chat with fellow passengers. Loved it.

An absolutely magical start to our family holiday!
We booked the Pico do Arieiro sunrise tour for our family of 3 (including our 10 year old), and it was easily the highlight of our trip. Our guide Antonio was fantastic, making the early morning transport seamless and stress-free. Watching the sunrise over the clouds at above 1,800 meters was breathtaking, and the mountain photo ops were unreal. Following the sunrise, we loved the local coffee and the traditional cafe, which was perfectly chosen for us. We finished with a peaceful morning exploring the valley of the nuns (as we requested) before heading back. Antonio is a perfect guide and we felt really safe and comfortable with him. Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the island!

We saw some really...
We saw some really beautiful sights on this tour with Antonio. He picked us up at our hotel at 5:15 am (2 hours before sunrise). We then picked up a couple at their hotel (6 travelers total). We traveled in his jeep that is 35 years old. He clearly taken good care of it. He drove us above the clouds to Pico de Arieiro Stairway to Heaven and told us which way to walk to wait for the sunrise. The walk was shorter than I thought it would be, maybe 15 mins. It was May but at 1880 m it was 8 degrees C/46 degrees F and it was VERY windy, so pack suitable clothes, a beanie, gloves, a blanket to sit on (the boulders are cold), flashlight (or phone flashlight), and tissues (for the runny noses). We waited about an hour and a half for the sun to rise at 7:12 am so I recommend packing a breakfast too. There was very little light pollution so we were able to see so many stars. We got there very early so even though many others showed up after us, we had a great spot to view the sunrise. The views were absolutely stunning. After sunrise and plenty of pictures, we got back in the Jeep and went to a levada that is no longer functioning. This was a very pleasant walk, the birds chirping, the wind blowing. This walk is almost completely flat with some steep downward steps at the end. I tend to be a little unsteady on my feet so my walking sticks helped me here but I would have been ok without them too, I would have just walked more slowly. Our levada walk (about 45 mins) ended at a cafe that seemed like it appeared out of nowhere. They served the most delicious Tarta de nata (similar to pasteis de nata but with pie crust instead of pastry shell), we had some coffee and hot chocolate too. We got back in the jeep and were back in Funchal by 9:30 am. Antonio shared lots about the area and animals we could find in the area. We got to see sheep, goats, and cows. Note: The 4 back seats of the jeep faced the center of the vehicle, mentioning in case you have issues with not facing forward in cars and get car sick. Also, this is a semi-guided tour. When we were at Pico de Arieiro and in the levada we were alone, though Antonio did tell us where to go.

Worth the early start
Friendly welcoming driver Antonio, picked us up from hotel to start our excursion to Pico do Arieiro for the sunrise. On way up Antonio shared his local knowledge making the journey to and from our destination more immersive. We were taken right to the top and only had to walk short distance to viewpoint which was beautiful and incredible. Afterwards we were taken to a nearby Levada walk with balcony viewpoint which again was stunning. This trip was well worth the money and I’d do it all over again

Half day Tour From 0 To 1818 Meters To Pico Do Arieiro Sunrise: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Funchal.
How much does Half day Tour From 0 To 1818 Meters To Pico Do Arieiro Sunrise cost?
+
Prices start at $59 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Funchal usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Half day Tour From 0 To 1818 Meters To Pico Do Arieiro Sunrise take?
+
Plan for about 3.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Funchal is not rushed.
Is Half day Tour From 0 To 1818 Meters To Pico Do Arieiro Sunrise worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 67 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 16 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Funchal, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Half day Tour From 0 To 1818 Meters To Pico Do Arieiro Sunrise?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Half day Tour From 0 To 1818 Meters To Pico Do Arieiro Sunrise suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Half day Tour From 0 To 1818 Meters To Pico Do Arieiro Sunrise?
+
Around 6 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Funchal can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Funchal and add a light layer if any part of the 3.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Half day Tour From 0 To 1818 Meters To Pico Do Arieiro Sunrise start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Funchal within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Funchal?
+
On Outty we rank every Funchal experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Jeep Tour Amazing West to Natural Pools -Full-Day, Porto Moniz, Seixal, Fanal Forest, Cliff Skywalk in Open Roof 4X4, West Tour-Fanal Forest & Porto Moniz Natural Pools Small Groups. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Funchal?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Funchal?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
