    About this experience

We start with the pick-up at your accommodation, following towards Pico do Areeiro, where we will have the opportunity to watch the sun rise over the mountains of Madeira, if the weather allows. Then we begin the walk along one of the island’s most iconic trails, crossing deep valleys, sharp peaks and the imposing central mountainous massive, always accompanied by stunning views. Along the way, the island’s fauna, endemic flora and history will always be present, making this experience even richer and more authentic. The great goal will be to reach the peak of Pico Ruivo, the highest point of Madeira, a conquest rewarded by absolutely unique panoramas. Go down to the Achada do Teixeira and then return to the hotel. The walk will be guided by me, Paulo Jesus, born and resident on the island of Madeira, a mountain guide certified by Tourism of Portugal.

Amazing Experience on PR1 and PR1.2

We had a wonderful private hike in Madeira with Paulo Jesus. He is a certified guide, very warm and fun, and extremely knowledgeable about the island, in our case the PR1 and PR1.2 trails. Paulo knew exactly what time to start the hike to avoid the crowds and give us the best possible views and weather conditions. He also made all the necessary arrangements so that we could reach the peak in time to enjoy the sunset, which made the experience truly unforgettable. I very much appreciated Paulo’s friendliness, professionalism and the quality of our conversations throughout the hike. He made us feel safe, comfortable and well looked after while also sharing fascinating information about Madeira. I would absolutely recommend Paulo to anyone considering a private tour or hike in Madeira. He offers a genuinely personal experience and knows how to make the day special, which is a good value for the money.

    Pico Grande!!

Hiking with Paulo was the best thing we did on our trip to Madeira. We particularly enjoyed our hike to Pico Grande! The views were phenomenal and there would have been parts we were nervous to do on our own but felt very safe with Paulo as our guide. If you’re reading these reviews - don’t look any further. Book with Paulo. He will tailor the trails to suit your level and your interests so that you can have the best possible time!

    Captivating panoramic views!

We did a second hike with Paulo through beautiful volcanic scenery! We really enjoyed our secret trail with amazing view points. The hike included some steep hikes but we felt safe every step of the way! Paulo has fantastic knowledge of the region and great local recommendations. We even finished off with a Nikita at the end!

Had the best time with Paulo during the Pico De Arieiro to Pico Ruivo Hike! He was really helpful answering my questions before the hike and he was really kind during the hike. He explained everything about the island and we had lots to talk about. Definitely recommend booking a hike with Paulo. Going on a second one tomorrow!!

Hike : Pico do Areeiro to Pico Ruivo - Private Guided: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Funchal.

How much does Hike : Pico do Areeiro to Pico Ruivo - Private Guided cost?

    +

Prices start at $165 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Funchal usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Hike : Pico do Areeiro to Pico Ruivo - Private Guided take?

    +

Plan for about 7 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Funchal is not rushed.

Is Hike : Pico do Areeiro to Pico Ruivo - Private Guided worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 63 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 12 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Funchal, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Hike : Pico do Areeiro to Pico Ruivo - Private Guided?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Hike : Pico do Areeiro to Pico Ruivo - Private Guided suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 7-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Hike : Pico do Areeiro to Pico Ruivo - Private Guided?

    +

Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Funchal can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Funchal and add a light layer if any part of the 7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Hike : Pico do Areeiro to Pico Ruivo - Private Guided start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Funchal within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Funchal?

    +

On Outty we rank every Funchal experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Jeep Tour Amazing West to Natural Pools -Full-Day, Porto Moniz, Seixal, Fanal Forest, Cliff Skywalk in Open Roof 4X4, West Tour-Fanal Forest & Porto Moniz Natural Pools Small Groups. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Funchal?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Funchal?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
