    Simply Incredible Trekking Team

Just finished an incredible trek through Kongma La and Everest Base Camp. If you’re considering trekking in the Himalayas and want to go with a guide company, I cannot recommend Mountain Sherpa Trekking highly enough, and especially their guide, Tassi. Once you’re in the mountains, it becomes very obvious that there is a wide spectrum of service levels among trekking companies. Not all operators are the same, and Mountain Sherpas is clearly one of, if not the, best teams out there. Their level of communication, hospitality, and care honestly felt closer to a 5 star luxury resort than a standard trekking company. The level of service became clear before my trek even started. Turkish Airlines lost two of my checked bags upon my arrival in Kathmandu: 1 containing all of my trekking gear, and another filled with gifts I was delivering on behalf of a friend to family in Nepal they hadn’t seen in years. Since my Lukla flight was the next morning, timing was a huge issue for me, and Turkish Airlines refused to send the bags onward to Lukla. Rather than delay the trek, the team arranged for me to take a heli so I could still begin hiking on plan. Meanwhile, Tandi personally went to the airport the next day to grab my bags himself. He then arranged for my trekking duffel to be sent on the next available heli to meet me mid-hike in the mountains, and separately hand delivered my friend’s bag to my hotel in Kathmandu. That level of kindness and personal care summarizes perfectly the Mountain Sherpas team. They genuinely go above and beyond because they simply care about their clients. On my guide Tassi: what an incredible human being and expert-level guide. Along with my porter Super Sanghe, they made every day of the trek truly enjoyable and taken care of. Beyond simply guiding, they were constantly focused on making sure I felt healthy, was eating enough, and was getting the absolute most out of my time in Nepal. Because Tassi knows the mountains so well, he quickly realized I was capable of completing Kongma La in a single day, so we audibled and added the pass into the itinerary, which ended up becoming my favorite day of the entire trip. Nutrition at altitude is also far more difficult than most people realize, and Tassi paid constant attention to it. He made sure I was ordering the right meals (both from a hygiene standpoint and because he knew which tea houses served the most substantial portions), and after long days and large dinners he would practically force-feed me cookies and apples to make sure I was getting enough calories. I also noticed firsthand that many other companies nickel-and-dime clients for every extra snack or small request, which Mountain Sherpas does not. It was also clear that they genuinely take care of their guides and porters at a level many other companies do not, which was something I deeply appreciated. Throughout the entire trip, Sumba and Tandi’s constant communication made me feel completely taken care of. When I ultimately decided to cut my trek 2 days short due to weather and to spend more time in Kathmandu, the team seamlessly adjusted all of my accommodations and transportation so I didn’t have to manage any of the logistics myself. An unforgettable experience with an exceptional team who I can call my friends.

Response from the operator: Dear Ryan, First of all, thank you so much for your detailed and genuine review of our service, our Sherpa team, and our overall dedication and support in organizing your recent Everest Base Camp Trek. We are truly pleased to know that our guide, Tashi, made your trek so personal, enjoyable, and memorable. It means a lot to us to hear that your journey was one of the best experiences of your life. Thank you again for your trust and kind words. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future for another exciting trekking adventure whenever you are ready for your next Himalayan journey. An Adaptable, Responsive Operator than you can Trust

With so many companies offering the same EBC itinerary, it’s hard to know who to go with. I was particularly drawn to this operator because of the amazing lack of bad reviews. Anyone knows how difficult it is to please such a large number of people without even a single terrible reviews. From the beginning, Sumba, the operator responded immediately giving me reassurance that they could adapt to my specific needs. In addition, they are not a middle-man just taking in business and then farming out to a local operator. Since they are the local operator, they know the nuances of how things work. This type of ground level understanding means that they can make changes very quickly. For example, they were able to guess that the airport at Lukla might be affected by the weather and got me from Base Camp to Kathmandu just before the airport was to be mostly closed for two days. Likewise, they were able to adapt to my particular desire to start earlier in the day, skip the usual lunch places, and adjust hikes as necessary depending on the weather or how I felt. In short, you can trust them. Not only did I make it through my trek with no issues, and mostly avoided crowds by going on a private solo trek, but combined it with a nice city tour and a great massage at the end. They take care of everything from start to finish and, if you desire, isolate you from any hassles including ordering meals for you, arranging transport etc . . . . But their ability to adapt quickly, their responsiveness earn them their high ratings and lack of poor ones . . . .

Response from the operator: Dear Gordon ! Namaste and Warm Greetings from Mountain Sherpa Trekking Family ! Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a detailed account of your journey with us! We understand how difficult it can be to choose the right company for an EBC trek, and we are honored that you chose us based on the genuine reviews from our past guests. As a responsible, family-run Sherpa company with over 27 years of experience, we always give our guests’ requirements and needs top priority. We are always very flexible when it comes to adjusting itineraries to meet our valued guests’ specific needs, so we are delighted that you appreciated this aspect of our service. Being 100% local operators, we truly understand the nuances of the region, and we are thrilled that our personalized service made such a positive difference in your experience. Navigating the weather conditions at Lukla is one of the most critical parts of the trek, and we take this very seriously. We were very happy that we could arrange a helicopter from Gorakshep to Lukla and get you back to Kathmandu just before the weather turned. We take great pride in being able to make quick adjustments and arrange helicopter transfers back to Kathmandu whenever necessary. We are also pleased that our customized pace—starting earlier and avoiding the busy lunch spots—worked so well for you. Many of our guests find that this makes the trekking experience much more enjoyable. It’s also wonderful to hear that you enjoyed the one-hour Ayurvedic massage and cultural tour; we agree they are the perfect way to wrap up a long trek! Your kind words mean the world to our entire Sherpa team. Thank you again for your highly appreciated review, and we truly hope to welcome you back to Nepal for another adventure in the future! Warm regards and heartfelt gratitude, The Mountain Sherpa Trekking Team 🏔️🙏 Kathmandu, Nepal

An unforgettable Everest Base Camp experience with an exceptional Sherpa Team

I recently completed Everest Base Camp trek from November 7th until November 25th with my father, and it was truly the best experience of our lives. There was a good turnout, but without excessive queues or crowding. We were completely enchanted by Nepal — its breathtaking natural beauty and the warmth of its people. Mountain Sherpa Trekking & Expeditions was outstanding from start to finish. The team was always attentive, responsive, and supportive. When we needed to revise part of our travel plan, they immediately stepped in and offered the best solutions, always ensuring that we had the highest quality service. We had zero issues during the entire journey and felt extremely well taken care of at every moment. A very special thank you to our incredible Sherpa guide, Mingmar, and our porter, Nigma. They were extraordinary human beings to meet and share this experience with. Their constant support, kindness, and genuine concern for our well-being made all the difference. Always cheerful, high-spirited, and professional, they were absolutely impeccable throughout the trek. We are deeply grateful to have had them with us. We would also like to highlight our city guide, Tandi, who assisted us in Kathmandu. His guidance was exceptional — knowledgeable, friendly, and truly dedicated to giving us the best possible experience in the city. We would love to return to Nepal someday and do more treks with such a professional, caring, and high-quality team. Highly recommended in every way for families, couple or even solo!

    Trekking to Everest Base Camp

Started the dream of hiking into Everest Base Camp by contacting Mountain Sherpa Trekking and Expeditions. They had grest communication before and during the trek. It started with a great itinerary and very friendly greetings from Tandi once I reached Kathmandu. Hotel accommodations were excellent while staying in Thamel. Once the trek started I met my guide Tashi in Lukla and we started my trek. With 3 great aclimitization days built into my trek i had no issues with headaches or loss of appetite. Everything went as planned and we reached Everest Base Camp on Nov 17th. I highly recommend Mountain Sherpa Trekking and Expeditions and they're guides.

Great Renjo La Gokyo Lake trek!

This was my second trek with Sumba and PD and it was excellent! What makes them stand out? First- PD was once again an excellent guide. The Renjo La trek is a real physical challenge and I am lucky to have had PD with me. I've done several high altitude treks - both in Nepal and Pakistan- and this was a tough one. He did a fantastic job making sure I got up the mountain and over the pass. Second - and perhaps more important- is the logistics of putting a trek togther in Nepal. Sumba and his team were able to get me on a direct flight to Lukla when most of the other flights were re-routed to a distant inconvenient airport at the height of the trekking season in November. Also - when bad weather closed down Lukla airport on the day of my return to Kathmandu- Sumba scrambled to make sure I had a seat on one of the first flights when the airport reopened the next day. Many others were marooned in Lukla. This is why I continue to rely on them for my trips to Nepal.

Everest Base Camp Trek With Local Expert Sherpa Guide: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Kathmandu.

How much does Everest Base Camp Trek With Local Expert Sherpa Guide cost?

    +

Prices start at $2170 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kathmandu usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Everest Base Camp Trek With Local Expert Sherpa Guide take?

    +

Plan for about 408 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Kathmandu is not rushed.

Is Everest Base Camp Trek With Local Expert Sherpa Guide worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 66 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 19 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable outdoors in Kathmandu, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Everest Base Camp Trek With Local Expert Sherpa Guide?

    +

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is Everest Base Camp Trek With Local Expert Sherpa Guide suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 408-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Everest Base Camp Trek With Local Expert Sherpa Guide?

    +

Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kathmandu can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kathmandu and add a light layer if any part of the 408-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Everest Base Camp Trek With Local Expert Sherpa Guide start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Kathmandu within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Kathmandu?

    +

On Outty we rank every Kathmandu experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Private Kathmandu Sightseeing Tour | UNESCO World Heritage sites, Manaslu Circuit Trek, Kathmandu Food and Drink Walking Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Kathmandu?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Kathmandu?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
