Disappointed for the money
The tours themselves were very nice, once we actually got to them because our driver was 20 minutes late to start the day picking us up. The Buffalo Trace tour is pretty cool and if we were on time for the downs tour, we have gotten to hear and see more. Beware side trips. Folks on our tour bus had a stop at Boulett which caused us to be late to the downs tour…we weren’t told that would happen. Final note, be sure to ask if your tour driver speaks without an accent that you might not be able to understand 50% of what they say. Best advice….drive yourself (if you have a rental). The scenery is wonderful, you’ll be at your own pace and you’ll save probably over $100.

Lack of communication
The day was a complete mess. Was told to meet at my hotel in a confirmation email. Then I was messaged saying the pick up was somewhere else and I needed to get there immediately or we would be left. Started heading that way and the driver came to the original location and had to come back to get on bus. Additionally we booked a trip with bourbon tasting and Church Hill downs. Once we get on the bus we found out everyone else on the bus was doing a completely different tour. It was very disorganized. Will not use this vendor again.

Good tour.
Would like to see more of the Churchill Downs and maybe a little more time there. The Buffalo Trace tour was good.

It was great! Verenice was awesome, knowledgeable and kind. One of our stops the cafe was closed and Verenice got me a sandwich, she could see I was fading.

The tour concept, which...
The tour concept, which included Buffalo Trace tour, and Churchill Downs, looked very good and we were excited, but that is not what we did. Buffalo Trace tour went very well and our guide added time at Woodford Reserve on the way to the Churchill Downs Museum/tour. However We were dropped off at 4:15pm, for a 4:30 tour and we had to rush about 3:4 of a mile to the entrance due to preparations for the Derby. We barely made the 1/2 hr track tour but the museum closed at 5:00 which we were very interested. In addition there was no time to visit the gift shop etc.. Our original departure time was 9am, but it was changed the night before to 11am. We most likely would have time to do it all if we had at 9am. Time management was the problem. If fixed this would have been wonderful

Why this scores 44
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Bourbon & Derby: Makers Mark OR Buffalo trace + Churchill Down: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Louisville.
How much does Bourbon & Derby: Makers Mark OR Buffalo trace + Churchill Down cost?
+
Prices start at $180 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Louisville usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Bourbon & Derby: Makers Mark OR Buffalo trace + Churchill Down take?
+
Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Louisville is not rushed.
Is Bourbon & Derby: Makers Mark OR Buffalo trace + Churchill Down worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 44 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.9/5 across 61 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable culture & history in Louisville, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Bourbon & Derby: Makers Mark OR Buffalo trace + Churchill Down?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is Bourbon & Derby: Makers Mark OR Buffalo trace + Churchill Down suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Bourbon & Derby: Makers Mark OR Buffalo trace + Churchill Down?
+
Around 21 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Louisville can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Louisville and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Bourbon & Derby: Makers Mark OR Buffalo trace + Churchill Down start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Louisville within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Louisville?
+
Louisville runs bourbon distillery tours and tastings along the Urban Bourbon Trail, Churchill Downs and Derby Museum visits, Louisville Slugger factory tours and river cruises. On Outty we rank every Louisville experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Historic Old Louisville Walking Tour, ORIGINAL Old Louisville Walking Tour seen in The New York Times!, Secrets of Louisville: 3hr NuLu Food & History Walking Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Louisville?
+
April to June and September to November. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Louisville?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
