What you get
About this experience
About 20 minutes south of Tulum, we have the opportunity to enjoy an incredible bird diversity, learn about the current Maya culture and the ancient Maya civilization as we walk and look for birds in the village and archaeological site of Muyil. We explore different habitats in the village with different types of vegetation: mature semi-deciduous jungle in the archaeological site of Muyil and some fresh water wetlands as we walk through flooded jungle using a boardwalk until we reach a fresh water lagoon. On this tour it is possible to identify from 40 to 80 species of birds (depending on the time of the year). There is also the possibility to add a boat trip across two lagoons and a lazy river floating experience to this tour. Be aware that if you are the only client booking this tour, we will offer you to go another day or offer you to do the tour in private.

We really enjoyed this...
We really enjoyed this tour. Our guides were great hosts and very knowledgeable. Note: the ruins were closed and there was no definitive timeline to reopen when we visited in Jan 2026. This did not diminish our enjoyment of this tour.
Response from the operator: Thank you very much for your kind words. We’re truly happy to know that you enjoyed the tour and that our team made you feel well accompanied and informed throughout the experience. We appreciate your understanding regarding the temporary closure of the ruins in January 2026. While such circumstances are beyond our control, we always strive to ensure that every experience remains meaningful and enriching. It means a lot to us that this did not diminish your enjoyment. We hope to welcome you again for another eco-adventure in the future.

Excellent and worthwhile trip!
My wife and I had an excellent time with our guides Lugo and Lut. We got to see more than 50 species of bird in the region, and got to know our very friendly and knowledgeable guide Lugo who had exceptional local bird knowledge as well as our hilarious and charismatic guide Lut who brought laughs and a fun spirit to the trip. We also were treated to an exceptional lunch at a local taqueria, and a trip out to the lagoon. Unfortunately, as the Muyil archaeological site is down for maintenance, we were not able to see the ruins, but between the birding, the lunch, and the great chats, this was more than made up for. Perfect communication, did not ever feel rushed, and lots of accommodation and care for our needs. Would recommend this trip for birders all the way. Thanks Lugo and Lut for making this a five star trip!
Response from the operator: Your review is so heartfelt and vivid thank you for sharing such a wonderful account of your adventure with Lugo and Lut! It’s clear that your time with them was truly exceptional and filled with unforgettable moments. Seeing over 50 species of birds is a birdwatcher’s dream, and Lugo’s exceptional local knowledge must have made the experience both educational and thrilling. Lut’s hilarious and charismatic energy clearly added a fun and lively spirit to the trip, making it even more enjoyable. The exceptional lunch at the local taqueria and the trip out to the lagoon sound like the perfect complements to a day already packed with nature and laughter. While it’s a shame the Muyil archaeological site was closed, it’s clear that the birding, food, and great conversations more than made up for it. Your praise for their perfect communication, unrushed pace, and attentiveness to your needs highlights what makes a tour truly five-star. Your strong recommendation for birders is the best compliment Lugo and Lut could receive!

Beautiful birds at a relaxed pace
Had an amazing trip with Lugo and Lot! Saw toucans, trogons, new world Orioles, hummingbirds, green jays, cuckoos, and other beautiful birds of the Yucatán. Muyil ruins closed currently but great bird watching nearby. Perfect timing on the breakfast, then I did the add on trip to the lagoon. Very nice way to see the natural beauty of Mexico!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for sharing your experience! We’re thrilled to hear that you had such an amazing birdwatching adventure with Lugo and Lot, and that you were able to spot so many beautiful species of the Yucatán — that’s a fantastic list! Even though the Muyil ruins were closed, it’s great to know that the nearby birding more than made up for it. We’re also happy you enjoyed the breakfast timing and the lagoon add-on — it really is a wonderful way to soak in the natural beauty of Mexico.

A once in a lifetime experience
I cannot tell you how thrilled I was to do this tour. I am only on Day 1 of my adventures here and I already know this will be my favorite thing here. We sax over 50 species of birds in 4 hours. Lugo was our guide and he was beyond amazing. I've never met anyone so passionate about his job and it shows he loves what he does. I am happy to have met new friends here. I will be back. Great tour company. Do yourself a favor a book this trip with Lugo!
Response from the operator: Your enthusiasm is absolutely contagious—thank you for sharing such a heartfelt and exciting review! It’s incredible that you saw over 50 species of birds in just 4 hours—what a phenomenal start to your adventures! Lugo clearly made this experience unforgettable with his passion, expertise, and love for what he does. Meeting someone who genuinely lights up while sharing their knowledge is a rare and special gift. The fact that you already know this will be your favorite experience—and that you’ve made new friends along the way—speaks volumes about the magic of this tour. Why this scores 74
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Bird Watching in Sian Ka´an Muyil: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Tulum.
How much does Bird Watching in Sian Ka´an Muyil cost?
+
Prices start at $119 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Tulum usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Bird Watching in Sian Ka´an Muyil take?
+
Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Tulum is not rushed.
Is Bird Watching in Sian Ka´an Muyil worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 74 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 47 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Tulum, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Bird Watching in Sian Ka´an Muyil?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Bird Watching in Sian Ka´an Muyil suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Bird Watching in Sian Ka´an Muyil?
+
Around 16 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Tulum can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Tulum and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Bird Watching in Sian Ka´an Muyil start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Tulum within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Tulum?
+
On Outty we rank every Tulum experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Tulum Ruins, Turtles in Akumal and Cenote tour, Tulum Guided Tour, Magical Cenote, Lagoon Snorkeling and Beachside Lunch, Chichén Itzá, Cenote and Valladolid with Lunch and transportation. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Tulum?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Tulum?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
