What you get
About this experience
About 20 minutes south of Tulum, we have the opportunity to enjoy an incredible bird diversity, learn about the current Maya culture and the ancient Maya civilization as we walk and look for birds in the village and archaeological site of Muyil. We explore different habitats in the village with different types of vegetation: mature semi-deciduous jungle in the archaeological site of Muyil and some fresh water wetlands as we walk through flooded jungle using a boardwalk until we reach a fresh water lagoon. On this tour it is possible to identify from 40 to 80 species of birds (depending on the time of the year). There is also the possibility to add a boat trip across two lagoons and a lazy river floating experience to this tour. We float in a truly unique setting, listening to the sounds of nature, among mangroves, orchids & bromeliads. Be aware that if you are the only client booking this tour, we will offer you to go another day or offer you to do the tour in private.

Fantastic birding experience around Tulum and Muyil
I had a fantastic birding tour in the Tulum and Muyil area with Amar Aves and would highly recommend it to anyone interested in birds, nature, and the Yucatán Peninsula. On a half-day tour we saw 47 species across several different habitats, including a White-bellied Emerald right in my guide`s - Miguel garden, an aracari, a Turquoise-browed Motmot, trogons, orioles and several other species endemic to the Yucatán Peninsula. Miguel was very knowledgeable and clearly knows the local birds and the best places to find them. The tour was also very well organized and on time, but what I appreciated most was Miguel’s flexibility. He adjusted the schedule to my interests and pace, making the experience feel completely tailored to me rather than like a fixed itinerary. The visit to Muyil and its archaeological area was an additional highlight. Combining excellent birding with the opportunity to explore such an interesting archaeological site made the day especially memorable. Miguel and our driver went above and beyond even outside the birding. I mentioned that I wanted to buy some exotic local fruit to take home for my kids, and they actually took me to two different local markets to help me find what I was looking for. That was such a thoughtful and personal touch. Overall, this was an excellent experience from start to finish: great birding, beautiful and varied habitats, interesting cultural sites, and a guide who was knowledgeable, punctual, flexible, and genuinely attentive to what I wanted from the day. I would happily book another tour with Amar Aves and highly recommend it to other birders visiting the Tulum/Muyil area.

Great half day tour!
My husband and I were interested in a half-day tour that covered a couple of different habitats, and we were super impressed with how well it went. We managed to see 60 species (in July) in one morning, including several endemics like the Yucatán woodpecker, black catbird, and orange oriole, and some harder to see birds like Lessen’s motmot, Mayan antthrush!!!, and the pale-billed woodpecker. Miguel was always scanning, and would even stop mid-conversation to point something out. We also saw the Muyil ruins and a little bit of Sian Ka’an, which was such a great way to end the tour. Highly recommended!!

Amazing birdwatching tour
Fantastic bird-watching tour at Muyil and the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve! Our guide was excellent, very knowledgeable, and helped us spot 45 bird species during the tour. The experience was well organized, and lunch was a great selection of delicious tacos at a local restaurant. Highly recommended for bird lovers and nature enthusiasts.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your review. It´s incredible how many birds we can spot in a half-day tour and still enjoy delicios tacos of the regional cuisine of the Yucatan. Until next time1

Outstanding birding for the experienced birder or novice
I wasn’t expecting much more than a touristy bird walk but boy was I wrong. We’ve birded in Equador and Panama and this was on par with our best guided birding days anywhere. Miguel is an outstanding, friendly and entertaining guide. He knew great spots to bird and the bird species by song/call. We saw and heard over 70 species including some of the highly desired toucans, mot-mots, all five local wood creepers and an amazing group of male black-headed trogons all calling and interacting, just to name a few of the many highlights. As we were about to complete the walk and leave the Muyil archaeological park, Miguel asked what my most desired bird was. I said the royal flycatcher we heard but didn’t see. So we basically back tracked the entire route through the two territories he knew about until we found and had great looks at a pair of royal flycatchers. We had such a great experience we’re looking forward to birding with Miguel for a couple days next time we’re in the area.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your kind words. It was a real pleasure sharing the birds of Muyil with you, and I’m very happy we were finally able to find the Royal Flycatchers together. I look forward to birding with you again on your next visit to the Yucatán. Miguel

Muyil & Sian Ka’an birdwatching & history tour
The tour was excellent from the pick up by the driver, the knowledgeable & helpful bird guide Miguel Amar and the interesting locations. The Mayan ruins at Muyil with the jungle backdrop was a great location for history lovers and nature. I just await my bird list to confirm number of birds seen!
Response from the operator: Thank you, I am glad to hear you enjoyed the birding tour and Mayan history. We are spoiled to be able to bird among ancient buildings. Looking forward to having you back.

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Tulum.
How much does Birdwatching in Sian Ka´an Muyil from Tulum - Shared Group Tour cost?

How long does Birdwatching in Sian Ka´an Muyil from Tulum - Shared Group Tour take?
+

Is Birdwatching in Sian Ka´an Muyil from Tulum - Shared Group Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 80 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 124 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Tulum, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Birdwatching in Sian Ka´an Muyil from Tulum - Shared Group Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Birdwatching in Sian Ka´an Muyil from Tulum - Shared Group Tour suitable for kids and families?

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Birdwatching in Sian Ka´an Muyil from Tulum - Shared Group Tour?
+
Around 43 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Tulum can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Tulum and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Birdwatching in Sian Ka´an Muyil from Tulum - Shared Group Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Tulum within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Tulum?
+
On Outty we rank every Tulum experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Tulum Ruins, Turtles in Akumal and Cenote tour, Tulum Guided Tour, Magical Cenote, Lagoon Snorkeling and Beachside Lunch, Chichén Itzá, Cenote and Valladolid with Lunch and transportation. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Tulum?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Tulum?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
