About this experience
The most popular tour through Zurich´s historic old town offers fascinating insights into the city´s colorful history. What do Einstein, James Joyce and Wagner have in common? All three were residents of Zurich. But it´s not only great minds who are captivated by this lakeside city with its well-preserved old town – people from all over the world have always flocked to the thriving metropolis. On a two-hour walk through the old town, we go searching for clues to the city´s past in its hidden alleyways and picturesque squares. Together, we uncover the secrets of Bahnhofstrasse, find out what a "procession axis" is, and visit a church with a minute-hand that jumps a record-breaking half meter every minute. This popular tour is filled with numerous astonishing and amusing anecdotes and has plenty to offer both visitors and locals alike.

Zurich in an afternoon (or less)
I was traveling from Milan to Vienna and decided to make an afternoon stop in Zurich on the way. I would say that this was a good, not great, tour experience in Zurich. The tour guide was knowledgeable but at times felt disconnected from the tour guide-ing role: stretches of quiet meandering through the city. Maybe this is a Swiss thing? I will also say that there didn't seem to be as many high-yield tourist spots in Zurich as in some other European cities; combined with the fact that this was a walking tour (and not a "go inside" tour, save for visiting a large-scale city model based on 1800s Zurich) which restricted some of the intrigue from the city. One afternoon is plenty to "see" Zurich, and this tour was a reasonable tool to facilitate this. Would I recommend this tour to a friend? Yes, but just barely.

Wonderful tour with Paola!!
Informative and well paced tour of the highlights of Zurich. Paola answered all our questions and kept the entire tour very interactive with questions and answers. 100% worth it to get a sense of the city layout and its history. She also shared recommendations on places to eat and drink afterwards.

Definitely worth it
I really like walking tours in general, I find they are a wonderful way to see a city. Our guide was very friendly and helpful. It also helped that we had a beautiful, sunny day in Zurich.

Walking Tour of Zurich with Family
We enjoyed our walking tour of Zurich "Old Town" despite the unusually hot weather. Our Guide, Eric, not only was very knowledgeable and friendly, but he was also very thoughtful in that he led us to the shady areas at each site, as we listened to the interesting history he shared. As advertised, this was a moderately paced tour.
Response from the operator: Thank you very much for your detailed feedback on your guided tour. We’re delighted to hear that you had a great time with Eric on the tour and were able to enjoy learning about the city’s history, despite the hot weather. Best wishes, Stephanie Zürich Tourism

Zurich Old Town Walking Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Zurich.
How much does Zurich Old Town Walking Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $32 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Zurich usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Zurich Old Town Walking Tour take?
+
Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Zurich is not rushed.
Is Zurich Old Town Walking Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 84 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.5/5 across 510 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Zurich, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Zurich Old Town Walking Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Zurich Old Town Walking Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Zurich Old Town Walking Tour?
+
Around 179 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Zurich can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Zurich and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Zurich Old Town Walking Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Zurich within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Zurich?
+
On Outty we rank every Zurich experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Zurich Food Tour with 10 Local Delicacies, Cheeses & Chocolates, Private, excellent guided tour of Zurich (from CHF 21/pers.), Zürich Historic District Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Zurich?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Zurich?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
