I cannot put this experience into words!

I can’t even put into words how fantastic this experience was and it will be one that I remember for all of the right reasons. A mini bus collected us at the allocated time from our hotel lobby. When we arrived at the sanctuary, we were greeted by a guide who explained everything to us individually. We were then placed into small groups, depending on the activity booked. The first activity is the ATV tour - wow! I was a little apprehensive, especially when they said that we would be driving on the roads. Please note, the Mexican roads for this activity are small, quieter lanes. The distance to the cenote is about 5km and providing that you display safe behaviour, you will get to ride your ATV back to the sanctuary. The cenote is beautiful - but cold! However, you will appreciate this after the ATV as it gets warm… ensure that you have some reliable, waterproof shoes for the cenote as it can be uneven and sharper rocks protrude in parts. Once you have returned, if booked, you will then be taken by a mini bus to akumal beach in search of giant sea turtles through a snorkelling activity. There isn’t any places to change, so I would advise that you leave your costume on from the cenote. Please make sure you are provided with th correct use life jacket, mine was so big and made it difficult to swim. We were really lucky and had the opportunity to see lots of turtles and some cool fish but be aware, this isn’t always the case. Finally, we returned to the sanctuary and after a quick lunch - which was basic but edible - we were given a tour of the sanctuary. Again, we were so fortunate and able to have the tour one to one as no- one else had booked. This meant that our meet and greet was special - just my husband and I with a beautiful white faced called Kimmy. This activity was what dreams are made of - the perfect day!

Response from the operator: We are truly moved by your kind words! Reading that this was a 'day what dreams are made of' is the greatest reward for our entire team at Tulum Adventure. We are so happy that every part of the journey—from the adrenaline of the ATVs to the magic of the sea turtles—created memories you will cherish forever. It’s wonderful that you had that special, one-on-one connection with Kimmy at the sanctuary; those 'rare and meaningful interactions' are exactly what we strive to facilitate in a respectful way. We also want to thank you for your valuable tips for our community! Your advice on wearing waterproof shoes for the cenote and keeping your swimwear on for the snorkeling transition is incredibly helpful for future adventurers. Regarding the life jacket, we sincerely appreciate the feedback; we have shared this with our team on the ground to ensure every guest has the perfect fit for a comfortable swim. Thank you for choosing us for your 'full jungle adventure' and for trusting us to show you the hidden treasures of the Riviera Maya. We hope to see you and your husband again soon for more unforgettable moments!

AMAZING

So much fun with Miguel as our guide, Yolanda as the monkey trainer and of course, Sarita the capuchin monkey!! Started the day by heading out on a wicked fun ATV ride through the jungle. It was dusty bring or buy the bandana! Rode to a beautiful cenote underground for a refreshing dip. Headed back and got to hang out with Sara the monkey. She was so cute.! Lots of great animals and work done at this sanctuary. This is our second time visiting and we will for sure be back!

Response from the operator: We’re very happy to hear that you had such a great time. Miguel, Yolanda, and of course Sarita the capuchin monkey will be thrilled to know they made your experience special. The ATV ride through the jungle, the refreshing swim in the underground cenote, and the visit to the animal sanctuary truly make this tour a complete adventure, and it means a lot to us that you enjoyed it so much—especially since this was your second visit with us! We also appreciate your kind words about the important work being done at the sanctuary to care for and protect the animals. It will be our pleasure to welcome you back on your next trip to the Riviera Maya. We’ll be here waiting for you for another great adventure!

Not worth the price at all- zero stars

I would NOT recommend this tour. It was incredibly disappointing. The monkey sanctuary was a zoo with farm animals and some monkeys that took over two hours to walk around. The ATV ride took a total of 30 minutes and they made you go slow the whole time. The cenote was cool but they only let us stay for 10 minutes. There was over an hour of standing around and waiting. The guide on the monkey zoo was kind, but the ATV tour guides were rude. 0/10.

Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re truly sorry to hear that the experience did not meet your expectations. Our sanctuary is home to rescued animals, many of which come from illegal pet trade, injuries, or relocation from unsafe conditions. The visit is designed to be educational, focused on animal welfare, conservation, and respect for the animals rather than entertainment alone. We understand this may feel different from what some guests expect, and we regret if that was not clear. Regarding the ATV portion, safety is our top priority. Speed is intentionally controlled to ensure the well-being of all participants and to prevent accidents, especially when groups include guests of different experience levels. The cenote visit is timed to allow all groups access while maintaining safety and preserving the site. We’re sorry to hear you felt there was too much waiting time and that your interaction with some of the staff did not feel positive. This is not the experience we aim to provide, and your comments have been shared internally for review and improvement. We appreciate your honest feedback, as it helps us continue improving our operations and communication for future guests

We love the monkeys and reduce animals

Our tour guide (we forgot to write it down, but it wasn’t mexican - he had wavy hair and wore glasses, he likes American rock n roll music and comedies like friends) was amazing! We had an incredibly fun and educational experience. The Cenote at the end of the ATV ride was perfect. Highly recommend this to others - protect the monkeys and rescue the abused animals!

Response from the operator: We’re thrilled to hear that you had such a fun and educational experience on the Wild Jungle ATV Adventure and that you enjoyed the cenote and the visit to the Monkey Sanctuary. It’s great to know your guide made the day memorable — we’re sure he’ll be happy to hear your kind words! We deeply appreciate your support for our mission to protect the monkeys and rescue abused animals. Every visit helps us continue providing care, rehabilitation, and a safe home for these amazing creatures. Thank you for recommending us and for helping us spread awareness. We hope to see you again soon for another unforgettable adventure!

SOOOOOOO many mosquitos!...

SOOOOOOO many mosquitos! Bring extra snug spray. Also absolutely need water shoes for the cenote. It is a “cave” cenote and your feet get a great acupuncture massage walking into the cave and to the cenote 😂 the water is COLD. The money encounter isn’t as long or involved as I expected but still super cute.

Response from the operator: We’re glad you enjoyed the cenote and the monkey encounter, and we appreciate your helpful tips for future travelers — bug spray and water shoes are definitely must-haves in the jungle! We understand that the mosquitoes can sometimes be intense depending on the season, and we’ll make sure to remind guests to come prepared. As for the monkey experience, we’re happy you found it cute and will share your comments with our team to keep improving. We hope to welcome you back for another adventure soon — hopefully with fewer mosquitoes next time!

Wild Jungle ATV Adventure with Cenote and Monkey Sanctuary: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Playa del Carmen.

How much does Wild Jungle ATV Adventure with Cenote and Monkey Sanctuary cost?

+

Prices start at $150 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Playa del Carmen usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Wild Jungle ATV Adventure with Cenote and Monkey Sanctuary take?

+

Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Playa del Carmen is not rushed.

Is Wild Jungle ATV Adventure with Cenote and Monkey Sanctuary worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 56 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.4/5 across 8 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Playa del Carmen, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Wild Jungle ATV Adventure with Cenote and Monkey Sanctuary?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Wild Jungle ATV Adventure with Cenote and Monkey Sanctuary suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 6. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 5-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Wild Jungle ATV Adventure with Cenote and Monkey Sanctuary?

+

Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Playa del Carmen can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Playa del Carmen and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Wild Jungle ATV Adventure with Cenote and Monkey Sanctuary start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Playa del Carmen within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Playa del Carmen?

+

On Outty we rank every Playa del Carmen experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include VIP Chichen Itza Private Tour, VIP Tulum Private Tour, Chichen Itza Private Tour VIP. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Playa del Carmen?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Playa del Carmen?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
