Highly recommended!
Such a beautiful and mystical experience! The atmosphere inside the ancient cistern is incredible, and the Whirling Dervishes Ceremony is both peaceful and mesmerizing. Everything was well organized, and the performance was unforgettable. Definitely one of the best cultural experiences in Istanbul!

Wonderful devotional experience at the heart of Ottoman Istanbul
It was an amazing experience. The cistern provides an excellent atmosphere for the devotional Turkish Sufi hymns that sets the tone of the whirling. Unless you are fluent in Turkish, it may be very difficult to pick up on the exact lyrics. So you can ask the musicians the names of the songs at the end of the show if you’re interested. Here is a few of what we were lucky to hear: “Solmadan bağın geçmeden çağın” based on the poem written by 17th century Ottoman Sufi poet Ismail Hakki Bursevî, music composed by 20th century Kanun master Cüneyt Kosal. “Ey aşk-ı dildade” based on the poem by 17th century Ottoman Sufi poet Hasan Sezâî-I Gülşenî, music composed by 18th century Ottoman palace composer Sheikh Sadık Efendi. “Erler demine destur alalım” is a 20th century production by poet Sheikh Mehmet Nusret Tura Uşşâkî of the Khalwati Sufi order, and female composer Hacı Tahsine Hanım. This “show” is actually a symbolic representation of the deep and rich Ottoman Sufi culture, which was the backbone of Islamic belief of the Ottomans, from the palace to the commoners.

Tour operator cancelled days before tour
The operator cancelled my tour 8 days before it was due to start. He guaranteed a month ago that this tour would definitely go ahead so I rearranged all my other activities around this. Now they can't be rearranged so I have been denied the opportunity to see something I really wanted to experience. My experience may not be the first time this has happened.viatour was very helpful but ultimately couldn't make the provider honour his word. Very disappointing
Response from the operator: Hello, We sincerely apologize for the experience you had. We understand that you arranged your schedule based on the confirmation of this tour and that the last-minute cancellation put you in a difficult position. We fully acknowledge the disappointment this has caused. Unfortunately, due to operational reasons beyond our control, the tour could not be carried out as planned. We are aware of the impact such situations can have on our guests and recognize that we need to manage this process more effectively. Your feedback is extremely valuable to us, and we are taking the necessary steps to prevent similar situations from happening again. We sincerely apologize once again for the inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding. Kind regards,

Exotic and artistic
The dancers were exactly what we thought. Just as we hoped. But the highlight of the show besides this magnificent location are the musicians. Really talented with local instruments. The singer has a beautiful voice. Activity lasts about 45 minutes. We would have liked a guided tour of the place.
Response from the operator: Thank you very much for your kind review. We are delighted to hear that our dancers, and especially our musicians, met your expectations. We aim to provide an authentic experience through our local instruments and talented performers. We also appreciate your suggestion regarding a guided tour of the venue. Your valuable feedback will be taken into consideration as we continue to improve our experience. We would be happy to welcome you again. Kind regards,

Why this scores 54
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Whirling Dervishes Ceremony & Cistern Entry Ticket: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Istanbul.
How much does Whirling Dervishes Ceremony & Cistern Entry Ticket cost?
+
Prices start at $20 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Istanbul usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Whirling Dervishes Ceremony & Cistern Entry Ticket take?
+
Plan for about 1 hour from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Istanbul is not rushed.
Is Whirling Dervishes Ceremony & Cistern Entry Ticket worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 54 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.2/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Istanbul, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Whirling Dervishes Ceremony & Cistern Entry Ticket?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Whirling Dervishes Ceremony & Cistern Entry Ticket suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Whirling Dervishes Ceremony & Cistern Entry Ticket?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Istanbul can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Istanbul and add a light layer if any part of the 1-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Whirling Dervishes Ceremony & Cistern Entry Ticket start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Istanbul within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Istanbul?
+
On Outty we rank every Istanbul experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Best of Istanbul 1, 2 or 3-Day Private Guided Istanbul Tour, Istanbul Luxury Bosphorus Yacht Cruise with Asian Side Stop, ISTANBUL BEST: Iconic Landmarks Full Day PRIVATE Guided City Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Istanbul?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Istanbul?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
