Unforgettable Experience, Incredible Guide
I booked a private tour for my family of six (my mother, spouse, and our three kids 17, 15, and 11) to go to Tulum, cenote swimming, and snorkeling with turtles. Our operator, Camas, picked us up bright and early at our hotel. He was incredible friendly and engaging, walking us through all of the activities we would do with an incredible sense of humor. On our first stop, he introduced us to a local guide who walked us through Tulum. I regret that I cannot remember his name because he was not only incredibly knowledgeable, but was very obviously passionate about his culture and history. I could have stayed there with him all day learning about Mayan history. I felt like we were given plenty of time to not only explore the ruins after on our own, at our own pace, but also to check out the shops outside. Our next stop was Cenote Nohoch Nah Chich. Camas himself guided us through the cenote, showing us the formations and talking to us about the water and its importance throughout the peninsula. My daughter was scared to go in the cave area and he took the time to not only reassure her, but stayed with her the entire time, allowing her to hold on to his lifeguard buoy while he pulled her around. Considering she's 15 and 6 ft tall, this is not the easiest feat. He laughed with her and talked to her the whole time, continuing to put her at ease while still explaining the cenotes features to the rest of our group. Our last destination was Akumal bay to swim with turtles. A local guide joined us for this as well, but Camas continued to help my daughter through the ocean, pointing out all the turtles and any other creatures we came across. We were very fortunate that despite how busy the bay was that day with people, we saw a ton of turtles! It was an incredible experience. Overall I would highly highly recommend this tour. I hope that all of their tour operators and associates are as incredible as the ones we were fortunate enough to have, but, if you for sure want a great guide, ask for Camas!
