What you'll see and do

  1. Tower of London

Discover the secrets of the Tower of London on a fascinating private tour led by an expert, Blue Badge guide. The Tower of London is one of the British Capital's most iconic monuments, and one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city. It stands proudly on the banks of the River Thames, and, dating back to the 11th century, was originally built as a royal palace and residence by William the Conqueror following the Norman conquest of England. The Tower became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988 due to its historical, cultural and architectural importance, and it is one of London's oldest buildings. Your Blue Badge Guide will meet you next to the entrance to the Tower of London, and then you will begin your discovery of this 900-year-old fortress. The complex is the only castle in the city of London, and is famous for holding the crown jewels as well as housing many celebrated and notorious prisoners. You will be enthralled by the myths and legends surrounding the place, all ably recounted by your top-rated guide. Your guide will show you all the highlights of the tower, including the White Tower, which was the castle's strongest point from a military perspective but which also provided accommodation for the king and his representatives; the Medieval Tower, which was once the residential area of the castle, the Royal Mint; Tower Green and the Royal Menagerie, where sculptures and installations of wild and exotic animals commemorate the former inhabitants of the Tower. The Crown Jewels constitute one of the highlights of the tour, featuring the finest treasures of the British Monarchy, including an 800-year-old Coronation Spoon, St Edward's Crown and the Imperial State Crown. Thanks to your expert guide, you will learn all about the deep religious and cultural importance of the items in this awe-inspiring collection. You will also have the opportunity to meet the Yeomen Warders, the guardians of the Tower and better known as “Beefeaters”. Formally, they are responsible for looking after any prisoners at the Tower as well as safeguarding the British crown jewels, though their role is primarily ceremonial these days.

Private Tower of London

Very informative and customized to what we wanted to hear. It incorporated lineages historical critical factors and fun interesting facts along with some things that are pure conjecture.

One of the best tours ever

The tour was amazing! Timothy our guide was so knowledgable, and children and I have learned so much. The amount of information he shared was incredible. But what he also managed to do, was to engage two children, 8yo, 13 yo and a teenager and keep them engaged for three hours and that in my opinion was a success in itself! Thank you so much Timothy.

Lovely guide, but not worth the high cost

I don't usually do touristy things while traveling; however, I decided to splurge on this Tower of London tour. Given the high price point, I expected a very high-touch, exclusive, or VIP-level tour (like the one I did at Versaille). While our tour guide was lovely, at over $800, this tour was really nothing more than an audio tour with someone walking with us. I wouldn't recommend paying the extra cost for this tour.

Tower of London Private Tour with Blue Badge Guide: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for London.

How much does Tower of London Private Tour with Blue Badge Guide cost?

+

Prices start at $50 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in London usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Tower of London Private Tour with Blue Badge Guide take?

+

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in London is not rushed.

Is Tower of London Private Tour with Blue Badge Guide worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 69 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 23 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in London, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Tower of London Private Tour with Blue Badge Guide?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Tower of London Private Tour with Blue Badge Guide suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Tower of London Private Tour with Blue Badge Guide?

+

Around 8 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in London can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in London and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Tower of London Private Tour with Blue Badge Guide start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central London within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in London?

+

London's best attractions split cleanly: the museums are free and need no booking, so the paid market is about views, theatre and getting out of the city for a day. That makes value scoring unusually important here, and the Outty Ranking penalises anything charging premium prices for access you could get for nothing. On Outty we rank every London experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Soho Music & Historic Pubs Tour, London Small Group Tour of Historical Pubs, The Great British Rock and Roll Walking Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit London?

+

May to September for long evenings, December for the Christmas markets. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in London?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
