The Pyramid of the Sun was primarily used for ceremonial and religious purposes. It is believed that it was used to carry out rituals related to the sun, rain and fertility, as these elements were fundamental to the worldview of the Teotihuacan culture. In addition, its location in the center of the city and its imposing presence made it a focal point for the community, where important ceremonies and events were held. It is one of the most emblematic structures of the pre-Columbian civilization in Mesoamerica. This pyramid is the largest in Teotihuacan and one of the largest in Mesoamerica, reflecting the importance of this civilization at the time.

The Pyramid of the Moon marks the northern boundary of the Causeway of the Dead, which gives it a highly symbolic meaning, and is the most notable element of one of the most harmonious urban spaces in the city, the so-called Plaza de la Luna. This large space, which is surrounded by 13 foundations with typical Teotihuacan architectural features and which were once completely painted, was an unbeatable setting for public rituals. At the foot of the pyramid is Structure A, framed by two foundations, inside which there are nine altars arranged on the walls plus one in the centre, which symbolise the cardinal and intercardinal directions and the centre of the universe.

Exceptional Tour to Teotihuacán
Tomás made this one of the best tour experiences we've ever had. The tour company was very responsive to our questions before the trip, which set a great tone from the start. He picked us up punctually at 7am and reached out the night before to make sure we were prepared — he even brought an umbrella for my fair-skinned daughter, who came home without a single sunburn. What really set him apart was his flexibility. When I decided mid-tour to walk the Avenue of the Dead rather than drive to the Sun Pyramid, he rolled with it completely without making us feel rushed or like we were disrupting anything. Despite that, he still made sure we saw everything the tour had to offer. His knowledge of the site was impressive and he kept sharing context and history throughout the day. The day ran very long — entirely due to our own pace — and he stayed professional and warm the entire time through a very late return drive. Couldn't recommend him more highly.
Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to write your review and recommend some tips to other travelers. We're glad to know that you enjoyed everything you did on the Teotihuacán Tour with our guide Tomas. Your comments help us enormously and are invaluable as we continue to improve every day. We do this so that every tourist feels comfortable, cared for, and welcomed during their wonderful experience. We hope you return soon and experience something new; there are many more places to visit in Querétaro and Mexico in general. We look forward to your next reservations. Come back soon. Awesome!
My wife and I were picked up by our driver about two hours away from our excursion. The ride was smooth and entertaining to talk to our driver. He offered to stop to get breakfast if needed. Once at the excursion we met our tour guide who was one of the excavators on site. He was very knowledgeable and spoke both English and Spanish very well. We were really happy with our tour. Definitely wear comfortable clothes, shoes and a hat. Not many places to find shade.

Saludos from Two New Yorkers!
What a spectacular experience this was! We couldn’t have asked for better hosts than Josué and Monserrat. This was a very special journey exploring the history and culture of the wonder that is Teotihuacan. Our guides made it exceed our expectations. Everything was smooth and comfortable from the very first moment. Thanks to our new friends in Monserrat and Josué, we left Teotihuacan with greater knowledge and appreciation for the beauty of this magical place. Also, we want to say that, from our perspective, this tour offered excellent value from private transportation to excellent food and, of course, the unforgettable tour — all included in the price. We cannot recommend this tour enough!

Theotihuacan Pyramid tour
My trip to see the Theotihuacan archeological site and pyramids was terrific! Our driver was excellent, very safe and very friendly. He offered educational videos to watch regarding Mexican culture and history. Our tour guide at Theotihuacan was also fantastic. He was very friendly and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend this experience. Be advised it’s roughly 2.5 hour drive each way to and from Queretaro. Bring a wide brim hat and lots of water.

Great trip
The driver went out of his way to help me. Gave us information on the way down. The guide was very knowledgeable and the length of time at the pyramids was just right. Lunch was very nice. A long day but well worth it.

That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 17 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in San Miguel de Allende, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in San Miguel de Allende and add a light layer if any part of the 12-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

What are the best things to do in San Miguel de Allende?
+

The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit San Miguel de Allende?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in San Miguel de Allende?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
