    What you'll see and do

    1. Burford

Burford is described as the ‘Gateway to the Cotswolds' at 2 hours drive from London. This is your first stop & introduction to the charm & beauty of The Cotswolds, where you can simply admire the quality of architecture, shops & atmosphere of a five star English Town. You can decide to take refreshments in a Tea Room or enjoy the downhill walk with a coffee in hand, stopping in every shop, gallery or boutique on route to the magnificent St John the Baptist Church which is considered in the top ten Churches of the UK.

      45 minutes here

    2. Swinbrook

Swinbrook is a small village on the River Windrush, about 2 miles east of Burford. Untouched for generations, it is the quintessential English village with its stone walls, pretty church, village hall, cricket green with wooden pavilion, & an old romantic pub next to the old stone bridge across the River Windrush. It has been used for the filming of Downton Abbey & visited by a UK Prime Minister too!

      20 minutes here

    3. Nestled in the Shill valley, is the village of Shilton, a place that exudes the quintessential Cotswold character, ambience and class. Shilton's close relationship with the Cotswolds is undeniable. Its traditional architecture, featuring honey-colored Cotswold stone, & the surrounding rolling hills, paint a picture of classic English countryside. The Shill Brook flows through the village into a clear pool, used by children & dogs on hot summer days! The area surrounding Shilton is one of natural beauty & historical significance.

      20 minutes here

    4. Bibury

Bibury is a charming, typical Cotswold village. With its stone buildings strung out along the banks of the River Coln, it is easy to see why artist, William Morris, called it 'The most beautiful village in England'. We will walk gently through Arlington Row cottages, which were originally built in the 14th century as monastic wool stores. It was later converted in the 17th century into a row of weaver's cottages & we take a short circular walk encompassing this, along side a trout farm & beautiful gardens.

      40 minutes here

    5. Bourton-on-the-Water

Bourton-on-the-Water is famed for its picturesque High Street. Lying on the meandering River Windrush with several low arched stone bridges, resulted in the village becoming known as the " The Venice of the Cotswolds". Tour the many shops & take a manner of stunning photos of this unique village.

      30 minutes here

    6. Lower Slaughter to Upper Slaughter walk

The Cotswolds' villages of Upper & Lower Slaughter are thankfully named after muddy wetland areas in the Old English language, nothing worse! Nestled on the banks of the River Eye, these twin villages are linked via a peaceful mile long drive. Lower Slaughter is home to one of the most romantic streets in the UK, Copse Hill Road, with its 19th century flour mill. We drive slowly by these tiny honey-hued houses, adorned with colourful flowers & traditional windows which sit aside the babbling brook. The village is a picturesque movie location too, & most recently the Jane Austin 2020 film ‘Emma’ was filmed here. Artists come from far & wide to paint these villages that have been untouched since 1906.

      20 minutes here

    7. Stow-on-the-Wold

Stow-on-the-Wold is a town in the North East of the Cotswolds. The town centre, whilst small, is extremely beautiful, focused around the large market square & the pretty streets leading off of it. We stay for a true English pub lunch in the oldest Inn in England, The Porch House, founded in 962AD

    The Great Cotwolds

After a two hour drive from London, we arrived in Bibury. Next town was Burford, then Stow-on-the Wold, Upper and Lower Slaughter, and finally Burton-on-the water. Driver and guide Mick Greenwood provided us with a comprehensive overall view of the Cotswolds villages. His presentations were quite clear and well spoken as he made sure to distinguish facts from folk tales. This gave us a very clear understanding of the Cotswolds region. He is very polite and well mannered and surely one to enlist again on any such tour. Don't miss lunch at the Porch House in Stow-on-the-Wold built in 926AD! Food was great. Aside from all the wonderful buildings, gardens, churches, and history, don't miss the crafts ship Bibury.

Response from the operator: So glad you enjoyed your Cotswolds Tour with Mick. He is a great guide with full knowledge of all the information required for a great day in the country! Come back soon BarryTours

The Cotswolds Private Day Tour From London: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for London.

How much does The Cotswolds Private Day Tour From London cost?

    +

Prices start at $1075 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in London usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does The Cotswolds Private Day Tour From London take?

    +

Plan for about 10 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in London is not rushed.

Is The Cotswolds Private Day Tour From London worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 48 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 2 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in London, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule The Cotswolds Private Day Tour From London?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is The Cotswolds Private Day Tour From London suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 10-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book The Cotswolds Private Day Tour From London?

    +

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in London can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in London and add a light layer if any part of the 10-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does The Cotswolds Private Day Tour From London start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central London within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in London?

    +

London's best attractions split cleanly: the museums are free and need no booking, so the paid market is about views, theatre and getting out of the city for a day. That makes value scoring unusually important here, and the Outty Ranking penalises anything charging premium prices for access you could get for nothing. On Outty we rank every London experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Soho Music & Historic Pubs Tour, London Small Group Tour of Historical Pubs, The Great British Rock and Roll Walking Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit London?

    +

May to September for long evenings, December for the Christmas markets. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in London?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
