About this experience

Making a souvenir on your own with highly skilled artists of 3 decades of experience ,rather than buying it in a expensive price . A lot of the time we dont even know if the quality of the thanka painting is good ( hand printed or machine printed) when we buy in random shop corner. The experience we provide ensures that you not only get the authentic piece of art , you also get to go through the whole process and observe it. You can ask the questions and confusions about the artform. Our experience is also quite flexible as you get to choose your pickup location, you get to choose one design out of 3 and also the timings. We provide you one English speaking guide as well who will help you throughout

Amazing Experience

Wow! I had a fantastic time on the Thangka Painting Workshop tour. The tour took us to a real thangka artist workshop where several master artists and their apprentices were painting thangkas. The artist that helped me catered the tour to my level of ability and was willing to let me paint as much or little as needed to get a beautiful final product. I left with a beautiful thangka and a good understanding of the process behind this sacred art. The tour guide Aayam was also very friendly and provided clear explanations that gave me the needed context to appreciate this tour fully.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for sharing your experience! It’s amazing to hear how much you enjoyed the Thangka Painting Workshop tour. The opportunity to learn from master artists and create your own beautiful thangka sounds incredible. I’m glad Aayam and the artist made the experience so personalized and enriching for you. Your appreciation of this sacred art shines through—thank you for being part of this journey! 🙏🎨

Amazing painting experience in Kathmandu

This was one of the best experiences I’ve had in Kathmandu! The master is so patient and sits with you throughout the whole process and teaches you how to paint it. Even if you make mistakes he will help you correct it. You don’t feel rushed for time at all and the final product you can take home as a great souvenir! I definitely recommend to do this when you have time!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for sharing your experience! It’s amazing to hear how much you enjoyed the workshop and how patient and supportive the master was throughout the process. It sounds like such a beautiful and relaxing way to connect with Kathmandu’s rich art and culture. Taking home your own hand-painted masterpiece as a souvenir? That’s next-level fabulous! 🎨✨ Highly recommend this to anyone who loves meaningful and creative experiences. Thanks for the glowing recommendation! 🌈🖌️

Thangka Painting Workshop: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Kathmandu.

How much does Thangka Painting Workshop cost?

+

Prices start at $72 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kathmandu usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Thangka Painting Workshop take?

+

Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Kathmandu is not rushed.

Is Thangka Painting Workshop worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 58 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 3 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Kathmandu, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Thangka Painting Workshop?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Thangka Painting Workshop suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 10. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 5-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Thangka Painting Workshop?

+

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kathmandu can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kathmandu and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Thangka Painting Workshop start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Kathmandu within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Kathmandu?

+

On Outty we rank every Kathmandu experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Private Kathmandu Sightseeing Tour | UNESCO World Heritage sites, Classic Everest Base Camp Trek, Manaslu Circuit Trek. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Kathmandu?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Kathmandu?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
