Great Tall Ship sailing experience would recommend

We actually ended up on the dinner cruise as a result of not enough people wanting to go on the lunch cruise. Actually turned out to be a blessing, what a lovely time to sail through the harbour as the city starts to light up for the evening. The beginning of the sunset was beautiful behind the bridge too. The crew were all brilliant, and our host Howard was very friendly and approachable with lots of knowledge and interesting facts. The food was plentiful and tasty, and we enjoyed it along with a beer we bought from the bar. I actually took up the added extra option of climbing up to the crows nest. What a great view from up there and well worth the experience in my opinion. All in all a great cruise, and the ship was a really good alternative to the usual motor cruisers and an experience we really enjoyed. I would recommend this cruise, it was good value for money and we really enjoyed ourselves.

Response from the operator: Hello, Thank you for such a thoughtful and detailed review! We’re so glad the change from the lunch cruise to the dinner cruise turned into a blessing in disguise. Sailing as the city lights begin to glow and the sun sets behind the bridge really is a special time on the harbour, and we’re delighted you were able to experience that. It’s wonderful to hear that Howard and the crew helped make the evening enjoyable and informative. We’ll be sure to pass along your kind words to them. We’re also happy you enjoyed the food, a drink from the bar, and especially the climb up to the crow’s nest — the view from up there is definitely something special! Thank you for recommending the cruise and for highlighting the unique experience of sailing on a traditional ship. We’re thrilled you had such a great time and hope to welcome you back on board again soon. Kind Regards, Sydney Harbour Tall Ships

    Avoid. Zero customer service.

We received a message from Viator that the vendor was asking if we could move our lunch booking to the evening as he hadn’t had sold sufficient tickets for the trip. We were asked to confirm asap. We immediately messaged them that this wasn’t possible and waited for a reply. Three hours later we had heard nothing so tried to ring them. No answer. We couldn’t cancel for a refund as it was within 24 hours of the trip. We contacted Viator who also couldn’t get a reply. At this point Viator refunded us our payment and we booked elsewhere. We only had two days in Sydney and one of them was wasted sending messages , waiting for replies that didn’t come and then looking for alternative trips to book whilst rearranging where to meet friends who were joining us. We get that companies sometimes have to cancel due to lack of bookings but it’s totally out of order to leave those who have booked just hanging around for information that doesn’t come. I have never left a one star review before but have no choice here.

Response from the operator: Hello, We sincerely apologize for the experience you described and fully understand why you felt let down. You were absolutely entitled to a timely response, especially after being asked to confirm your availability urgently. Failing to reply to your messages or calls is not acceptable, and we are very sorry for the stress and disruption this caused during your limited time in Sydney. While schedule changes due to low bookings can occasionally occur, we agree that guests should never be left without clear communication or guidance — particularly when cancellation policies are involved. We regret that this situation resulted in you spending valuable holiday time chasing information and rearranging plans instead of enjoying your visit. We appreciate you acknowledging Viator’s assistance and are grateful that they were able to resolve the refund promptly. Your feedback has been taken seriously, and we are reviewing our communication procedures to ensure this does not happen again. Thank you for sharing your experience, and we truly regret that we did not meet the standard you rightly expected. Kind Regards, Sydney Harbour Tall Ships

    Zero customer service

Booked with Viator from who we received a message less than 24 hours before the trip that the operator wanted to know if we could switch from lunchtime to evening as they didn’t have many bookings. We immediately messaged the company that we couldn’t do that and waited for their response. Three hours later and we had heard nothing. Tried ringing. No answer. Contacted Viator who also got no answer. If we cancelled the trip ourselves we would have lost our money as it was within 24 hours. Viator very helpful and made immediate refund do we could book elsewhere. I get that some trips have to be cancelled and have never left a one star review before but this company should have had the courtesy to respond to our messages. It turned one of only two days we had in Sydney in to one of constantly checking messages and having to research and book an alternative trip for the next day. Not good enough.

Response from the operator: Hello, We sincerely apologize for the frustration and inconvenience you experienced. You are absolutely right to expect timely and clear communication, and we regret that we did not respond promptly to your messages or calls. We understand how stressful this situation must have been, especially with limited time in Sydney, and we are truly sorry that it disrupted your plans. While schedule changes can sometimes occur due to low bookings, this does not excuse the lack of communication you encountered. Your feedback has been taken seriously, and we are reviewing our internal processes to ensure guests receive faster and more reliable responses in the future. We appreciate you acknowledging Viator’s support and are grateful you were able to receive a refund and make alternative arrangements. Thank you for sharing your experience — it helps us improve, and we hope we may have the opportunity to provide a much better experience in the future. Kind Regards, Sydney Harbour Tall Ships

Sydney Harbour Tall Ship Lunch Cruise: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Sydney.

How much does Sydney Harbour Tall Ship Lunch Cruise cost?

    +

Prices start at $55 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Sydney usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Sydney Harbour Tall Ship Lunch Cruise take?

    +

Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Sydney is not rushed.

Is Sydney Harbour Tall Ship Lunch Cruise worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.5/5 across 154 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Sydney, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Sydney Harbour Tall Ship Lunch Cruise?

    +

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is Sydney Harbour Tall Ship Lunch Cruise suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Sydney Harbour Tall Ship Lunch Cruise?

    +

Around 54 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Sydney can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Sydney and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Sydney Harbour Tall Ship Lunch Cruise start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Sydney within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Sydney?

    +

On Outty we rank every Sydney experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include WILD Wombat and Kangaroo Day Tour, All Inclusive, Depart Syd: Blue Mountains Best All Inclusive with Local Guide, Blue Mountain Small Group Tour All Inclusive. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Sydney?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Sydney?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
