    What you'll see and do

    1. Vatican City

The Vatican History Museum is just one part of the impressive Vatican Museums. Founded by Pope Paul in 1973, the collection of the Historical Museum was originally located under a square garden. It was not until 1987 that it was moved to the main floor of the Lateran Apostolic Palace and reopened to the public in March 1991. The Vatican City Museums began their activities in 1503 by the then Pope Julius. The museum's selection of works grew from private to public collections of rich families, former popes and the future pope. The Vatican Museums grew when the wide variety of collections required more buildings to house the works and this led to the Vatican Museum of History.

    2. Sistine Chapel

When visiting the Sistine Chapel, what catches people's attention is not its architecture, but the frescoes that completely cover the walls and ceiling. The Sistine Chapel is the pope's own chapel, the site of the pope's most important ceremonies and is used by the Holy College of Cardinals to elect a new pope when a seat becomes vacant. But when the chapel is not in use for practical reasons, tourists from all over the world flock to the chapel, all eager to catch a glimpse of the magnificent paintings hidden inside.

    Sardines

This trip was booked 2 and a half hours before it started as crown tours cancelled our Vatican museums, Sistine chapel and St Peter’s basilica trip 30 minutes before we were due to meet 😢 As we had a couple of hours to kill we took ourselves off to saint Peter’s square which we loved The tour operator warned us it would be very busy at the museum and recommended we head straight for the Sistine chapel then work backwards - this tour was unaccompanied We got in within 30 minutes but I hated it - it was so tightly packed and the chapel is at the end of many rooms. Once in the chapel we were again tightly packed, I spent very little time looking at the paintings as it was so uncomfortable One woman left in a distressed state due to being too hot - she couldn’t breathe It’s all worth seeing but do your research and see if there are quieter times We couldn’t return to the museum as it was just too crowded This is probably high on everyone’s list of must do experiences so I’d certainly recommend me but plan carefully

Response from the operator: Next time we will try our best

    Man without a guide.

I was supposed to be part of a group and our guide ended up just sending me out on my own with no guide since the other employee didn’t show up.

Response from the operator: We sincerely apologize for your experience. You were expecting to be part of a guided group, and we understand your disappointment when the other staff member was unable to attend and you were left to continue on your own. This is not the experience we aim to provide. We appreciate your feedback and will work to ensure better coordination and communication with our team in the future.
