The Temple of Jupiter dominates the north side of the Forum, with Mount Vesuvius scenically rising behind. When the colony was founded (80 BC), the temple underwent a radical renovation and became a real Capitolium with the three cult statues of Jupiter, Juno and Minerva, which looked like those of the Capitolium in Rome, placed on a high base so as to make them visible to whoever passed in the Forum square.

Macellum
The Macellum consists of a tuff quadriporticus with a hall for worship in an elevated position on the eastern side, in line with the entrance. The copies of two marble statues, a female and a male armed, are found on the niches of the side wall, together with the fragment of a larger statue, probably pertaining to an emperor, Titus or Vespasian, indicating how this area was intended for the imperial cult

Stabian Baths (Terme Stabiane)
The main entrance on via dell'Abbondanza leads to a large courtyard. The pool is found to the left, whereas a colonnade is found to the right, which leads to the men's quarters, which are split into the apodyterium (dressing room), with the frigidarium (for cold baths), which leads to the tepidarium (for medium temperature baths) and then to the calidarium (for hot baths). The heating was guaranteed by a piping system in the walls and double floors that circulated the hot air coming from the furnaces and from mobile braziers. The women's quarters, close to the men's quarters, was split the same way in the apodyterium, tepidarium and calidarium. The Stabian baths are among the oldest we know of the Roman world.

Lupanar
The prostitutes in the brothel were mostly Greek and Oriental slaves who were paid between two and eight Asses (a glass of wine cost one Ass) for their services. Small paintings with erotic depictions on the walls of the central corridor informed customers of the activities that took place within the Lupanare. The brothel is named from lupa, a Latin word meaning 'prostitute'.

Fantastic tour with an exceptional guide
We had an absolutely fantastic tour with Cinzia and would highly recommend it! Cinzia was an amazing guide — incredibly knowledgeable, informative, jovial and genuinely kind. She was more than happy to answer all of my questions and provided such a wealth of information throughout the tour. I learned so much, but it never felt like we were simply being given facts; Cinzia made everything interesting, engaging and enjoyable. Her warmth and enthusiasm really added to the experience and made the tour feel personal and relaxed. We came away having learned so much and feeling that we had gained a much better understanding of the places we visited. A special shout-out also to our driver, Luciano, who transported us safely throughout the day and helped make the whole experience run so smoothly. It was lovely knowing we were in such safe hands! A wonderful experience and definitely one of the highlights of our trip. We would certainly recommend this particular tour, and especially Cinzia as a guide, to anyone visiting the area. Thank you, Cinzia and Luciano, for such a memorable day!

An Enjoyable Informative Day/Excellent relaxed trip with our Guide in the crowds of the area.
We booked this trip through our hotel direct with the company. We were collected from our hotel and from beginning to end we were kept well informed of events by our Guide who was excellent with everyone, even the children, keeping them interested around Pompeii especially. We did not feel rushed in any way. Our Guide we felt was particularly knowledgeable and gave us some free time at the end to look around Pompeii a little, although time did not allow for long. Points to note though: we booked/prepaid a lunch but it was very poor: a salad to start with (in our case four lettuce leaves) and a choice of four mains - we chose pizza which was just a tomato sauce on the pizza bread, however the sweet was small but nice. We were given one drink with the meal but had to pay for another. This meal was approx 20 euros each - really not worth the money but there are little options to eat elsewhere on this trip. Service at the restaurant, whilst quick for the amount of people who had arrived, certainly was not with a smile. After this we were taken to a place at the bottom of Vesuvius for limoncello tasting - something not many from the trip appreciated (and not on the itinerary). The drive up to Vesuvius is steep (obviously) and windy, so be warned if you get travel sick. Near the top you have to stop/park and then go through the entrance to Vesuvius (not particularly friendly gate staff) from there you are on foot up to the top of Vesuvius, which is a dusty steep exhausting walk with no shade. There are drink areas at the top. The coach drivers are amazing driving on these roads. The coach was extremely comfortable and all air conditioned, and as mentioned our Guide and coach driver were great! I would definitely recommend this trip, just be mindful of the 'lunch', tasting stop off (not mentioned on our itinerary) and the extremely steep dusty walk to the top. I would not advise anyone with breathing difficulties to do this walk. There is no where else to go at this point if you decide not to walk up Vesuvius. The coaches park all along the road for return - you have to walk down the road to find your Guide/coach. All in all though a great experience - certainly made better with our Guide. A much relaxed approach to Pompeii and Vesuvius in the crowds. The trips are definitely worth it.

A nice experience to Pompeii and Vesuvius
The tour was perfect, we enjoyed our time ! It was well organized, we appreciated our guides who kindly switched us to the french tour without notice, althought we booked for an english one. The food place was lovely, the car rides were pleasant despite the winding roads. The hike to the Vesuvius is worth it, the view was spectacular ! We highly recommend it !

Great family day out with an awesome guide
Carmela was absolutely brilliant, taking the time to explain everything in fluent english both on the bus and on site and made sure everyone was included which was no mean feat for quite a large group. Highly recommend!
