Our guide Pedro was so...
Our guide Pedro was so great… he was so knowledgeable about the country and all its history .He was so informative. Sintra and Cascais are both worth seeing as well as a tuk tuk around the city. It’s beautiful!

Nico was Excellent
Nico was an amazing guide. So knowledgable and interesting we had the best day visiting Sintra and Cascáis. Highly recommend a tour with him

Great tour!!!
Sintra was great but the best part was the tour guide Pedro. He helped us understand the history, kept it fun and interesting, got us the local pastries and had so many great insider tips. Fabulous experience all around.

Very worthwhile custom tour !
Nico was an amazing tour guide. He treated us like family from the moment he met us. He provided a completely customized tour and was very flexible in designing a route that worked for us from the beautiful castles of Sintra to the beauty of Cascais. Obrigado Nico!!

Not a private guded tour at all!!!!
I don’t think I could be much more disappointed. But the tour that is the topic of this post was NOT a private guided tour. It was a glorified cab ride. In essence, you get a private driver but NO tour. He took us to the entry point for Sintra, then left us to wander on our own. No added value whatsoever. No information. No commentary. He went to get a couple of local pastries (which were nice) but pastries are a far cry from 4 hours of valuable, interesting information. After we left Sintra, he took us to a “typical Portuguese Sunday market”, which was what we would call a “flea market” or “garage sale” in a parking lot. Used potty seats, unwanted clothes and shoes and dishes…I cannot fathom the reason he took us there. Again, he waited with the car - due to where he parked, but I think based on the Sintra experience he would not have walked with us anyhow. Finally, we were dropped off at the airport, 30 minutes early. We paid, for an adult and child, 220 Euros for a driver for 3.5 hours. NOT a private guided tour of 4 hours. I have been on “private guided tours” before - in fact, the most recent was just 2 days before this one. On the other tour, for a total cost of 130 Euros, the guide was with us the entire time, sharing the history of the site, answering questions with ease, and the 4 hour tour ended up being about 4h20 before we parted. The only time he left our side was for a 10 minute stop at a souvenir shop. It was consistent with our prior private tour experiences and enriched our experience so much that we wanted to do the same on our layover in Lisbon. I recommend you do better research than I did and choose a different “tour” for your precious layover time.
Response from the operator: Hi there! Unfortunately what happened was that you arrived to the car angry because like you said you were "very upset with the airport service and up since 2:30AM" After that you told the guide, when he was explaining lisbon's history on the way out of the airport to "shut up because you were texting", wich the guide understood that you didn't want explanations so he was only answering to your questions after that and not freely speaking to not upset you. When you arrived to the Palace the guide asked you if you wished to be escorted and you said no, that you preferred to go alone with your daughter. The "garage sell" is the most traditional market of sintra, and that shows your disrespect for our traditions. And don't forget you wanted to leave sintra earlier because like you said you were "done with it" Obrigado

Why this scores 61
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Sintra or Cascais Half-day Private Tour - The real portuguese essence!: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Lisbon.
How much does Sintra or Cascais Half-day Private Tour - The real portuguese essence! cost?
+
Prices start at $70 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Lisbon usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Sintra or Cascais Half-day Private Tour - The real portuguese essence! take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Lisbon is not rushed.
Is Sintra or Cascais Half-day Private Tour - The real portuguese essence! worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.4/5 across 24 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Lisbon, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Sintra or Cascais Half-day Private Tour - The real portuguese essence!?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Sintra or Cascais Half-day Private Tour - The real portuguese essence! suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Sintra or Cascais Half-day Private Tour - The real portuguese essence!?
+
Around 8 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Lisbon can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Lisbon and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Sintra or Cascais Half-day Private Tour - The real portuguese essence! start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Lisbon within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Lisbon?
+
On Outty we rank every Lisbon experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Lisbon City Center Tour - The Unmissable Lisbon, Sintra Private Trip from Lisbon Customizable Dreamlike Experience, True 4Hour Private Tuk Tuk Tour: Discover Lisbon with a Local!. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Lisbon?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Lisbon?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
