What you'll see and do
Chunyaxche
Are you ready to discover one of the best-kept secrets of this beautiful destination? Join us on an unforgettable adventure as we journey through the stunning Sian Ka'an Reserve, following the same route that the ancient Mayans used thousands of years ago to connect the Caribbean Sea with the Muyil community. As we navigate our way through the reserve, we'll encounter three main lagoons - Muyil, Chunyaxche, and Capelchen - all connected by a network of water channels. And that's not all - in the heart of the reserve, surrounded by canals and lagoons, lies the Mayan temple of Ixlapak. This temple was used by the Mayans as an astral observatory. But the real magic of this experience comes from the opportunity to relax and connect with nature. Imagine floating through the fresh water channels, feeling the cool water caressing your skin and the warm sun on your face. It's a moment of pure bliss, a chance to let go of all your worries and simply be in the moment.

This beats the Eiffel Tower and NYC.... GO HERE!
Probably the most fun ever! A must. Sounds like a corny experience, but it will be THE thing you remember the best when you go back to whence you came. It won't be around in 20 years as the population grows, so trust me on this one, do it!
Response from the operator: The Sian Ka'an Biosphere is a beautiful natural reserve that we should protect from the population growth as you said, hope we can contain the growth and maintain this piece of heaven on earth, we are glad you have a good time .

Very worthwhile - will definitely do this again. The float was glorious.
This was amazing. The guide, Mamo, was the best ever. We were a little confused on what to bring/ when we would change. You should wear a swim suit under your clothes, because you first will boat and do the float. You then will be given your shoes back (consider tennis shoes) and you will walk through the savannah on a bridge back to the boat. You can then change (behind the ruins) or just put your clothes over your suit, and then you do an hour long walk through the jungle. Then you sit to eat - this may have been my favorite meal in Mexico. So delicious. Very worthwhile - will definitely do this again. The float was glorious.
Response from the operator: Thank you Heather for your kind words, for sure this tour is one of the hidden jewels of this area. We are happy you had the chance to explore it with us. Hope to see you on your next visit. Adios amiga

Why this scores 55
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Sian Ka'an Biosphere Ancient Canals Expedition: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Tulum.
How much does Sian Ka'an Biosphere Ancient Canals Expedition cost?
+
Prices start at $219 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Tulum usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Sian Ka'an Biosphere Ancient Canals Expedition take?
+
Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Tulum is not rushed.
Is Sian Ka'an Biosphere Ancient Canals Expedition worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 55 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Tulum, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Sian Ka'an Biosphere Ancient Canals Expedition?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Sian Ka'an Biosphere Ancient Canals Expedition suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Sian Ka'an Biosphere Ancient Canals Expedition?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Tulum can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Tulum and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Sian Ka'an Biosphere Ancient Canals Expedition start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Tulum within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Tulum?
+
On Outty we rank every Tulum experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Tulum Ruins, Turtles in Akumal and Cenote tour, Tulum Guided Tour, Magical Cenote, Lagoon Snorkeling and Beachside Lunch, Chichén Itzá, Cenote and Valladolid with Lunch and transportation. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Tulum?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Tulum?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
