Superb!
I had a wonderful morning birding with Gabriel, who kindly stepped in as Eddy was already committed to multi-day guiding of another group. After picking up Gabriel around dawn in Tulum, he directed me to several sites in the Sian Ka'an area which proved packed with birds, with a chance to also visit some Mayan ruins. Gabriel's knowledge of local species was game-changing, especially his ability to identify birds from their calls, and we ended up with over 70 species, including both toucans and all three local trogons, laughing falcon, puffbird, two species of ant-tanagers, and many more - a great total given the time of year. We also saw three tayra, a mammal I'd never even heard of! I think this was a rare sighting for both of us. A really memorable day, and a highlight of my trip.

Local guide - excellent knowledge
We wanted to do the tour with Eddy but unfortunately he wasn't available anymore. So he helped us out and contacted his Colleague Gabriel Castillo and it was a pleasure to explore the nature with him. His passion about birds and the habitat is very inspiring and we totally recommend Gabriel as your guide!

50+ species in 3 hours in jungles nearby Cancun
We debated whether or not to hire a guide for our birdwatching trip, but are so thankful that first we did have a guide in a local expert and second that Eddie’s professionalism and expertise clearly helped us enjoy the birds thorough connection with the local wildlife. His communication was great and through the journey I got 37 new life listers among the more than 50 birds that we encountered in just a few hours through the jungles nearby Cancun. He first got to understand our objectives with the birdwatching and helped us to really encounter the types of birds and and that we wanted to see. Eddy has a great job with audio both terms of understanding the sound of species and also was able to impersonate some of the bird sounds with whistling and his voice in order to draw them closer. His knowledge of birds is incredible and he has a knowledge of birds and local birds in four different languages, including English, Spanish Latin and even Maya. Great experience. Highly recommend Eddie.

A fantastic bird-watching day that we will never forget!
As an incredibly enthusiastic bird lover, seeing toucans and mot-mots in the wild was very high on my wish list when we visited the Sian Ka’an Reserve in March. We left at 4.30 AM on a dark and deserted road to meet our guide, Moises, and from the very first moment he was incredibly kind, warm, and as passionate about nature as we are! What followed was beyond anything we had hoped for. We didn’t just see one toucan — we saw no fewer than 8 Yellow-throated Toucans and 2 Aracari toucans! Moises told us they normally live alone or in pairs, and sometimes in a very small group, so this was a fantastic moment! We also saw stunning mot-mots in several beautiful colors, something I will never forget, In total, we say 37 different species in different colors and various monkeys deeper in the jungle of the reserve. Moises sent us beautiful pictures he had made during the trip, so he is also a wonderful photographer! He also can send you the list of lifers if you have the Ebird-app, like I do. At the end of the tour, we were invited to enjoyed delicious traditional Mayan dishes. As we are not very fond of the touristic Tex-Mex food that is, unfortunately, served a lot in Mexico nowadays, this was a delicious treat! It was the perfect ending to an unforgettable day <3 Thank you, Moises, for your knowledge, your kindness, and for giving us memories that we will carry in our hearts forever! We hope to be back soon and wish you all the best! <3

Why this scores 77
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Sian Ka'an & Birdwatching Tours By Eddy: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Tulum.
How much does Sian Ka'an & Birdwatching Tours By Eddy cost?
+
Prices start at $95 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Tulum usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Sian Ka'an & Birdwatching Tours By Eddy take?
+
Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Tulum is not rushed.
Is Sian Ka'an & Birdwatching Tours By Eddy worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 77 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 139 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Tulum, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Sian Ka'an & Birdwatching Tours By Eddy?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Sian Ka'an & Birdwatching Tours By Eddy suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Sian Ka'an & Birdwatching Tours By Eddy?
+
Around 49 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Tulum can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Tulum and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Sian Ka'an & Birdwatching Tours By Eddy start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Tulum within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Tulum?
+
On Outty we rank every Tulum experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Tulum Ruins, Turtles in Akumal and Cenote tour, Tulum Guided Tour, Magical Cenote, Lagoon Snorkeling and Beachside Lunch, Chichén Itzá, Cenote and Valladolid with Lunch and transportation. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Tulum?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Tulum?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
