Rome on your own
We found the amount of time we had in Rome one you take off travel time was enough for us. We were dropped off at the colloseum for a small additional fee which we were happy to pay and we walked back towards the pick up point at our leisure, taking in the main places of interest. We even had time for lunch and then an apperol spritz and cake. Nice clear instructions for the pick up. The only thing id say is that it might not be enough time to do all that if you want to actually go inside the colloseum, as the queues were huge, so be aware. For feedback, the only thing I can think of is that the company name could do with being on the ticket or the booking, as there are loads of companies at the port and we didn't know which one we were with just by looking at the ticket info etc. Would make it easier for people to ask when they arrive, or see the company booth if the name is easy to find on their info

Bus Driver not helpful
When we got off the bus in Rome he sent us completely opposite direction for the hop on hop off bus tour. His driving was also bad. He also changed the pick up time for 3:30 which we were told when we bought our tickets to 3:15. There is not enough time as it is without him sending us on a half hour wild goose chase and then also knocks 15 mins of the departure time as well. Do not use this company
Response from the operator: We are sorry to hear about your experience. It is likely that the driver did not change the departure time, but simply asked all passengers to arrive a bit earlier to ensure a punctual departure and provide a better service.

Excellent July trip with Civita Tours – Luciano made it special
I took a trip with Civita Tours in July , and it was a great experience from start to finish. Our bus driver, Luciano, truly stood out. Luciano was very charismatic and genuinely funny, making well-timed jokes that kept everyone smiling and relaxed throughout the drive. At the same time, he was professional and informative. He clearly explained the security precautions needed in Rome, especially reminding us to beware of pickpockets, which was extremely helpful for a short visit to such a busy city. What I appreciated most was his excellent sense of timing — he spoke when it mattered, sharing useful tips during the important parts of the journey, and then allowed quiet moments to enjoy the views or get some rest. That balance made the excursion feel calm, comfortable, and well organized.

Poor timekeeping and communication
We booked a Civitours Rome Alone return coach trip to Rome from Civitavecchia through Shoreexcurcions.com . The advertised departure time was 9.30am, with us having to be there at 9.15. We were on time but the bus didn't leave until 9.51am. I asked why and they said it was the police who held us up but all the other 4 or 5 busses left ok. All the passengers on our bus therefore lost 20 minutes of an already limited (paid for) time in Rome that day. We were dropped off at one of 2 stops, the first we were told also being the pick up point for our return , with the second being sold as including being dropped off at the Colosseum for an extra 5 Euros each by the rep on the bus. We chose to first stop, but they never announced we were there so we only knew by following other passengers. We got off and dropped a pin on Google maps. We also took a photo of the bus and it's registration number... which proved invaluable as when we returned to the advised pick up point at the appointed time, our bus was not there at all !!...we found it by chance from another companies tour guide who said we needed to be over the other side of the river. Another 5-10 min walk. We were all fed up, but luckily we got on the bus just before the departure time. Others may not have found it and may not have made it back to the cruise ship on time? The bus rep was nowhere to be seen on the return bus...I wonder why? Definitely would not use this company again..far too stressful!
Response from the operator: Dear Customer, Thank you for your feedback, and we are sorry for the inconvenience you experienced during the tour. Please note that we manage a large number of participants daily, and our staff works to ensure everyone is directed correctly to the meeting and return points. Any delays may occur due to traffic or exceptional circumstances, but we always do our best to minimize them and ensure all guests complete the tour safely. We apologize for the stress caused and hope to have the opportunity to provide you with a better experience in the future. Best regards,

Why this scores 63
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Rome On Your Own Bus from Civitavecchia: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Lake Bracciano.
How much does Rome On Your Own Bus from Civitavecchia cost?
+
Prices start at $36 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Lake Bracciano usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Rome On Your Own Bus from Civitavecchia take?
+
Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Lake Bracciano is not rushed.
Is Rome On Your Own Bus from Civitavecchia worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 63 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.9/5 across 79 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Lake Bracciano, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Rome On Your Own Bus from Civitavecchia?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Rome On Your Own Bus from Civitavecchia suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Rome On Your Own Bus from Civitavecchia?
+
Around 28 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Lake Bracciano can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Lake Bracciano and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Rome On Your Own Bus from Civitavecchia start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Lake Bracciano within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Lake Bracciano?
+
On Outty we rank every Lake Bracciano experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Civitavecchia Shore Excursion: Best of Rome Private Tour, Food Tasty and History Tour in Civitavecchia, VIP Tour of Rome (3/5/8hrs) Colosseum & Vatican Museums. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Lake Bracciano?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Lake Bracciano?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
