About this experience
Imagine rappelling down waterfalls in a private rainforest valley on the famed Road to Hana. What's rappelling? It's a popular adventure/gravity sport that includes a descent from a cliff or wall using anchored ropes. Under supervision and instruction from expert guides, you’ll use professional equipment to descend into nature in the Maui location featured in the movie Jurassic Park. Great for active families, couples, groups and solo travelers with an appreciation for dynamic outdoor excursions. Minimum age of 10; minimum weight of 70 lbs., maximum weight of 250 lbs., and waist measurement between 22 and 48 inches. All gear (including shoes) provided. RAIN or SHINE: We go to the rainforest. Waterfalls are naturally occurring phenomena changing rapidly at any time. When the streams flood due to rain and the falls are roaring or swollen, and we cannot safely rappel one or both waterfalls, we rappel 40- to 115-foot drops from jungle cliffsides at a safe distance from the water course.

Great Adventure!
Shauna and Alba were incredible hosts through the rainforest and great rappelling teachers! We went with my husband, my twin 18 year old boys and me. It was a great adventure and something we’d never done before. Highly recommend!!

One of the Best Experiences of Our Maui Trip!
This was hands-down one of the best experiences of our trip! We rappelled into a ravine and then down two waterfalls in the rainforest along the Road to Hana. It was such a cool and unique way to experience Maui. It was the perfect combination of adventure and challenge while still feeling safe the entire time. Everyone in our family had a blast! Our guides, Mikaela and Shauna, were awesome—full of energy, incredibly knowledgeable and just fun to spend the morning with. They made sure everyone felt comfortable and confident while still keeping it exciting. We also loved the eco-tour through the rainforest at the end. It was an unexpected bonus and really fun and interesting. Definitely time and money well spent and one of the highlights of our Maui trip. Highly recommend!
Response from the operator: Mahalo nui loa for sharing your wonderful review! It sounds like you embraced every part of the adventure! We’ll be sure to pass your kind words along to Mikaela and Shauna—they’ll be so happy to hear you had such a blast with us. Mahalo for choosing Rappel Maui and for recommending us. We hope to see your family back on Maui for another adventure someday!

Great Adventure Excursion in Maui
My family of four went rappelling with Rappel Maui today, and it was great. There were three rappel’s, two of them over waterfalls and one with significant height. We previously went rappelling in Costa Rica but this was more challenging as the guides gave us more control over our descent and coached us along the way… but we’re still 100% committed to our safety. It was fun for all including my youngest son who is twelve (although he is the adventurous type). We also got to swim and hike along the way, which filled out the experience. Our guides, Alba and Deacon, were excellent. Would highly recommend this as an adventure excursion when in Maui.
Response from the operator: Mahalo nui loa for joining us and sharing your experience. We love getting to share the adventure with families and are thrilled that you would highly recommed us! We hope you will join us for another adventure soon!

Just do it!
Oh my gosh. It's been a while since I've written a TripAdvisor review but this one feels necessary. We went as a family of 4 (two adults, kids ages 11 and 13), after deciding this would be more unique than another zipline excursion. And it really was. Just seeing these big flowing waterfalls would have been cool, but wow, the experience of rapelling down them was top notch. I was a little scared but the guides made us feel safe and coached technique to help. Swimming in the pools at the bottom of the waterfalls was exhilerating. The guides (Shauna and Alba) were also wonderful at pointing out plant life, letting us taste things as we hiked out, and generally just being awesome women. Would not hesitate to recommend this tour if you've got an adventurous crew and are looking for something to do beyond the snorkeling and ziplining and horseback riding that you can do on so many other islands!
Response from the operator: Aloha, Mahalo nui loa for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful review! We're honored that you chose to experience Rappel Maui as a family and that it was such a highlight! We're thrilled to hear that Shauna and Alba helped you feel safe, confident, and supported every step of the way. We'll be sure to share your kind words with them—they'll be so happy to know they made such a lasting impression! We love sharing this beautiful corner of Maui and creating experiences that guests will remember long after their vacation. Thank you again for your recommendation. We hope to welcome your adventurous family back for another rappel the next time you're on Maui! Mahalo, The Rappel Maui Team

Why this scores 81
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Rappel Maui Waterfalls and Rainforest Cliffs: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Maui.
How much does Rappel Maui Waterfalls and Rainforest Cliffs cost?
+
Prices start at $241 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Maui usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Rappel Maui Waterfalls and Rainforest Cliffs take?
+
Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Maui is not rushed.
Is Rappel Maui Waterfalls and Rainforest Cliffs worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 81 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 475 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Maui, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Rappel Maui Waterfalls and Rainforest Cliffs?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Rappel Maui Waterfalls and Rainforest Cliffs suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Rappel Maui Waterfalls and Rainforest Cliffs?
+
Around 166 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Maui can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Maui and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Rappel Maui Waterfalls and Rainforest Cliffs start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Maui within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Maui?
+
Maui's three signature days are the Hana road, the Haleakala summit sunrise and the Molokini snorkel sail, and all three are logistics problems as much as experiences. Sunrise summit entry is permit-controlled, Hana is a ten-hour driving day, and Molokini boats vary wildly in size. Our ranking rewards operators who handle permits and keep boat capacity low. On Outty we rank every Maui experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Molokini Crater + South Maui Coast Adventure from Kihei, Maui, Maui: VIP Private Road to Hana Tour with Pick Up, Road to Hana Adventure Maui Tour with Lunch. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Maui?
+
April to May and September to October. Whale season runs December to April. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Maui?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
